What size is your bed?

We are staying in a lovely house for a few days. But the bed is a queen size double. Bloomin’ tiny! We are used to a super king. I just can’t sleep with DH on top of me Grin
It had me wondering if many people use a queen size bed? I know they used to be the norm, and space will be an issue for some. But what size is your bed?

Euro King (180x200cm) and TWO seperate duvets. It's the key to a happy marriage 😆

AdditionalCharacter · 09/07/2020 11:39

We have an Ikea super king, so it's longer than a standard super king. No idea how DH and I managed in a double for years.

HaudMaDug · 09/07/2020 11:46

Super king size all for me and me only. I'm a starfish in bed and according to my step tracker I can manage up to 3000 steps per night while I sleep Confused .

Redcrayons · 09/07/2020 11:56

Super king, but it’s from Ikea so I think they are a bit smaller.

When exH was here it was great. On my own it’s fine, but I’d go down a size as it takes up so much of the room, if I was to change it.

DappledThings · 09/07/2020 12:13

Standard double but with a king size duvet.

Feels like plenty of room for us and the occasional small child as well.

gerbo · 09/07/2020 12:13

I'm with Smidge! We have a double and I'm happy with it. I like that DH and I are close at night, I get chilly. And we're both on the short and thin side, so it's really fine.

Plus no room for anything bigger- but if we had the room/cash, I wouldn't be buying a bigger bed- many other things would come first.

gerbo · 09/07/2020 12:14

Dappled we have a king sized duvet too - warmth factor is much better. No draughts!

LazyFace · 09/07/2020 12:16

Super king. I need space.

KatherineParr4 · 09/07/2020 23:01

I am currently thinking of getting a super king but have quite a small bedroom. How small is too small I wonder? It would take up most of the room , but would be SO worth it. OH has restless legs and wakes up all the time. It’s either separate bedrooms or a new bed.

Teacaketotty · 09/07/2020 23:05

Super king here, DH is a big guy and during my pregnancy I thanked my lucky stars for the extra space. We really struggle in a double now.

roundandsideways · 09/07/2020 23:07

I used to have a king, but now I'm single with no regular bed mate, I have a double.

PontiacBandit · 09/07/2020 23:07

We had a double for too long, about 18yrs. We upgraded to a king this year and it is bliss. Despite having a small bedroom, like we only have room for the bed and tiny bedside tables, it dominates but I don't care, we are not disturbing each other now.

DanniArthur · 09/07/2020 23:17

King size but my DP still prefers to sleep on top of me 😂

Megan2018 · 09/07/2020 23:21

@KatherineParr4 separate bedrooms is the way forward. It’s bloody lovely!

safariboot · 09/07/2020 23:23

Singe but just for me. I've slept in a double before and didn't really notice any difference. But I do think that really a "double" is a one-person bed; for two it should be a king or bigger.

dangermouseisace · 09/07/2020 23:41

You’re not alone. I’ve got a single. There isn’t room for a big bed, and my boys have the only double bedroom in the house.
I’d love to have a bigger bed at some point in my life.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 09/07/2020 23:45

Superking. Love my bed!

Crosswithlifeatm · 10/07/2020 00:01

Had a super king when married, now have a double to my self and DD has a queen.
Yes to getting the next size duvet up although in winter I have the super king duvet on my bed,no draughts!

happyjules · 10/07/2020 01:33

Mine is an IKEA European King size, so 160 by 200cm for just me on my own. Absolute bliss.

KatherineParr4 · 12/07/2020 10:30

Any recommendations for a super king with separate mattresses?

Billyjoearmstrong · 12/07/2020 10:49

@KatherineParr4 IKEA. That’s where our old, huge bed with separate single mattresses came from.

Scruffyoak · 12/07/2020 10:51

Super king

diddl · 12/07/2020 10:54

@bluefoxmug

superking with too separate single matresses bliss
Yes, us too.

Seems to be the standard thing here in Germany.

Also a single quilt each!

LetsHearItForTheBuoy · 12/07/2020 10:59

Superking here. Would not have anything else and would never move to a house that wouldn't fit my bed in!
I hate going away and having to sleep in a double with my H!

Crunchymum · 12/07/2020 11:02

12 years with a double and we are 6 months into a superking.

Wish we'd done it before having kids (co slept in a double which saw DP on the sofa alot Blush)
