What size is your bed?

We are staying in a lovely house for a few days. But the bed is a queen size double. Bloomin’ tiny! We are used to a super king. I just can’t sleep with DH on top of me Grin
It had me wondering if many people use a queen size bed? I know they used to be the norm, and space will be an issue for some. But what size is your bed?

Mine is a 4 foot double, bought when I moved into my flat alone as the bedroom is quite 'bijou'. It didn't matter at that point, in fact I was pleased with my cleverness at saving some space.

Now that 6'2 DP has moved in with me it's quite a different story HmmGrin

That said, we stayed in a hotel with a normal width double last weekend and I couldn't really tell that much of a difference. He appears to hunt me down in his sleep so I suspect even in a superking we'd end up entangled in the middle.

superking
with too separate single matresses
bliss

loutypips · 09/07/2020 08:16

My dp has a small double- which is fine, but not much room to move around. I've got a double, that's much more comfortable. I like him being close in bed though.
When we move in together we might get a king size.

GingerbreadTeen · 09/07/2020 08:16

King with a King duvet. About to start hunting for a new bed and want a ziplink.
Alsdiner, where did you buy yours and can you get two different types of mattress?

DonLewis · 09/07/2020 08:19

King. But hankering after an emperor bed.

AuntyFungal · 09/07/2020 08:22

6 & 1/2 ft — bliss

Orangesox · 09/07/2020 08:24

Double bed for us, always has been for the 15 years we've been together. When we go on holiday and have a bigger bed, we always end up squashed up in the middle together as we're just not used to sleeping apart. One of those funny quirks I suppose, but it does mean that we've still got plenty of space in our bedroom for other furniture etc which would be quite tight with a king or superking as we have a new-build.

MoggyMittens23 · 09/07/2020 08:25

Super king bed with king size duvet each!

Ragwort · 09/07/2020 08:27

Super king and I sleep alone Grin. DH has his own room with a king size bed.

Hate going away and having to share a bed/room ... we always book twin beds if possible (in most chain hotels this usually means a double bed plus a single bed or sofa bed). Going self catering later in the year & there is a double bedroom (not sure of the size of bed) plus a sofa bed in the living room.

Many times if we've stayed with friends or family one of us DH ends up sleeping on the floor. We've got to the stage in life where we now just book a hotel if we are visiting people.

Thighdentitycrisis · 09/07/2020 08:29

Small Double (queen?) but it’s just for me.

Perfect

dramalamma · 09/07/2020 08:29

Emperor! With a Caesar duvet - we had to downgrade to a super king for a few years when the emperor wouldn't fit up the stairs so we had to buy a bigger house! 😂 Dh is really tall and I don't see why I should give up my space - it makes for a much happier life if I'm well rested. I don't know where you'd even buy one here tho - we bought while living abroad and I'd love to get a new base as it's a divan so is pretty ugly (but it's forgiven for comfort it brings! )

SallyOMalley · 09/07/2020 08:29

What is a queen size?

To me, single = 3ft, double = 4'6", king = 5ft, super king = 6ft.

I remember having a small double at uni. Possibly 4ft??

Franticbutterfly · 09/07/2020 08:32

King.

Burpalot · 09/07/2020 08:35

Super king. I always check the size of the bed in holiday rentals and rule out anything smaller that what I already have. Why would I want 'worse' on holiday? Likewise I always look at the sofa. Saw a supposedly luxury cottage the other day with what looked like two of those cheap IKEA armchairs - you know the wood ones with the thin futon type cushion covering. No thanks!

EasilyDelighted · 09/07/2020 08:40

King. The ILs have a queen and it's fine for a few nights though, as are normal doubles which you often get in holiday homes. We stayed somewhere with a superking a while ago and it felt too big, as if you were in separate beds. One wouldn't fit in our room in any case.

Nanalisa60 · 09/07/2020 08:40

We Are in a king size but with super king bedding , In my last house we had a superking bed I just loved it but it was to big for the house we are now in so back down in a kingsize.

I alway but on bigger bedding on beds so double on a single bed/small double and kingsize bedding on a double , superking Bedding on my king size bed.

I hate sleeping in a double when my dh.

Howhighsthewaterpa6 · 09/07/2020 08:49

Superking here, I get way to hot in bed for anything less!

Notfeelinggreattoday · 09/07/2020 08:57

Moved from a double to a king recently , loving it
Assuming queen is 4ft ? My teenage ds have 4 ft beds and if someone stays and we give up our bed we use one of theirs and is a tight squeeze

Theeyeof · 09/07/2020 09:00

Mine is double our room isn’t big enough for anything bigger.

Smidge001 · 09/07/2020 09:09

A double. I love it as it means more space in the bedroom, and more chance of using DH as a hot water bottle during the night Smile. We used to have a 5' bed (is that a queen or a king?) but went smaller to get more room. DH doesn't mind the width being smaller in our double, but is really grumpy about it being shorter as he doesn't like his feet to dangle off the end (whereas I love it) tbf I hadn't realised a double would be shorter.

Shmithecat2 · 09/07/2020 10:28

Superking. Dh and I are tall, and more often than not have to share with a tall 4yo who sleeps sideways 🙄

feelingverylazytoday · 09/07/2020 10:45

I'm on my own. My bed is a shortie single divan, luckily I'm quite small and don't move around when I'm asleep.
I did use to have a double but I got evicted from it by my daughter.

chockaholic72 · 09/07/2020 11:04

King which I bought as a singleton last year when I upgraded from a double. Since then I have acquired a boyfriend who is a broad 6ft3, and I'm regretting not getting a super king!

MulticolourMophead · 09/07/2020 11:07

I have a double, all to myself. The room is big enough for a king, maybe even a superking, but as I'm single I've not yet bothered to change the bed.

00100001 · 09/07/2020 11:32

Superking ... luxury!
