What size is your bed?

We are staying in a lovely house for a few days. But the bed is a queen size double. Bloomin’ tiny! We are used to a super king. I just can’t sleep with DH on top of me Grin
It had me wondering if many people use a queen size bed? I know they used to be the norm, and space will be an issue for some. But what size is your bed?

@OddestSock

King. And to think DH and I used to share a single when I was at university!
Us too! No idea how I didn’t kill him during that time.

We have a king now and couldn’t go back. We used to have two singles pushed together but the gap in the middle drove me insane. Now DH knows it’s a miserable day for him whilst I choose a mattress that won’t aggravate my hips. He could sleep on a concrete slab and not care.

Superking zip and lock bed, with a single quilt each. It's WONDERFUL. Like having a bed and quilt all to yourself - because you have your own mattress you can't feel the other person moving or bouncing, and because you have your own quilt you can wrap yourself in it without disturbing the other person. Worth every single penny - we both get wonderful sleep now.

A tall super king that we have to climb up into. It's a beast and we love it!

Mightymurphy · 09/07/2020 07:24

Superking. We couldn’t sleep in anything smaller.

20viona · 09/07/2020 07:31

Super king! I hate smaller beds. When we go to America all the beds tend to be superking so that's great but I have it when we go to Spain etc and the beds are tiny.

chasingrainbows3 · 09/07/2020 07:31

We are in a double, we decided to go with a better mattress than a bigger bed with a poor quality one as we didn't have the budget to do both.

We paid almost £3000 for our orthopaedic mattress which is like sleeping on a cloud so I can't complain but I do like when we go on holiday and get a bigger bed, something about stretching out without touching each other which is nice.

If I could afford our mattress and a bigger bed I definitely would!

TimeWastingButFun · 09/07/2020 07:33

King sized. I hate it when we go away and there's only a double, they're tiny and we're not big!

wendz86 · 09/07/2020 07:36

King size and just me in it until my 5 year old joins me at 5 am .

Megan2018 · 09/07/2020 07:38

We have a Superking each! Separate bedrooms here so mine is for me (and often DD or several cats).

I hate a small bed

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/07/2020 07:39

In between king and super-king - a Vi-Spring bought in a sale decades ago, though we’ve replaced the mattress since.
The one big minus is that I can’t buy fitted sheets off the peg - have to order them. Duvet no problem, we just use a super king.

I find it very cramped if we ever have to share a standard double nowadays - certainly won’t book any holiday accommodation with only a double.

Skyliner001 · 09/07/2020 07:40

King

Roselilly36 · 09/07/2020 07:41

Super King, went from a double before the babies arrived, then needed the biggest bed we could buy as both of our two were cot adverse.

QuestionableMouse · 09/07/2020 07:45

Double but it's just for me. (and sometimes the cat.)

I love it.

AnnaNimmity · 09/07/2020 07:45

Superking, just for me. Love it.

I couldn't sleep in a queen size with anyone else. or even alone now possibly.

autumnboys · 09/07/2020 07:46

King size. I love the space and would probably like a super king even more.

madcatladyforever · 09/07/2020 07:47

I've got a king sized bed all to myself. I can't imagine sleeping in anything smaller now.
Even the cat has a king size fluffy dog bed, she likes to stretch out.

TheoneandObi · 09/07/2020 07:50

Super king. But I agree if you haven't the space for one, make sure you size up on bedding.

k1233 · 09/07/2020 07:50

Ok, in Australia and was getting jealous of super king. We go double, queen, king. UK look to go double, king, super king - is that right? good ole Google suggests our king is the same as your super king.

I've got a king and it's beautiful. I'm an active sleeper and have rolled out of queens multiple times, even when I'm in there by myself LOL

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/07/2020 07:50

Superking. Was so useful when DS were toddlers.

Ylvamoon · 09/07/2020 07:53

Super King, we have separate single size quilts. As I find anything ove a normal double to bulky for washing and changing.

We had to compromise on cupboard space, but it's soo worth it!!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/07/2020 07:54

I used to have a super king but I lived in a rented flat and my bedroom was huge. I have just moved into my first house that I bought and the bedroom was much smaller, had to compromise on what I could afford so I now only have room for a regular double. I miss my super king but I am single and a short arse so it's not a huge issue.

okiedokieme · 09/07/2020 07:57

Always had a normal double until I met dp (he's tall so need a king) super king I've only seen in hotels, who has room in a house. Queen in the USA is the same as king in Europe btw

SallyWD · 09/07/2020 08:02

Super king with 2 mattress joined. Will never go back. Sleep so well

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 09/07/2020 08:07

Do you mean 4ft double? Those are tiny, I'm sure they're only meant for one person! We have a king, I would have a superking if we had space but our bedroom isn't huge. We do use a superking duvet though which is great in the winter.

LittleMissRedHat · 09/07/2020 08:08

We bought ours whilst we lived abroad - it's an emperor so 2m x 2m with an even bigger duvet. I love it. Hate it when we go on holiday and it's any smaller, DH is 6' 3", a duvet stealer and lies diagonally. If we go anywhere and I see a double I die a little inside! Grin. We have even been known for DD to take the "master" bedroom with the double and we have taken the twin second bedroom to avoid arguements!
