@AnxiousElephant77

The ring exchange thing makes me laugh. I mean, he has touched me before, and presumably will later that day Grin
Filth 😱

@AnxiousElephant77

Oh I can get legally married but my dad can’t walk me down the aisle, I have to wash my hands before and after ring exchange, no food, no drinks, no music, and whispered vows.

No thanks.

Oh that's completely insane! You are marrying someone you are going to live with not some stranger you will never see again! Wash your hands first, whispered vows, no music??? My brain cannot compute that madness at all.
AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 18:41

I think this is why I’m so pissed off. None of it makes any bloody sense!

mightbealittlebitmad · 09/07/2020 18:42

@Willow2017 I can't decide if they have put the rules in place because they genuinely think they will make a difference or if they are just doing it on purpose to prevent people from booking weddings.

mightbealittlebitmad · 09/07/2020 18:43

What is the logic behind the hand washing anyway? Fair enough everyone has to do their hands on arrival but to make it specific to before and after rings is bizarre.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 18:43

I think it’s just to capture those that need to get married for whatever reason, or just want to get legally married.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 18:44

I just still don’t want to postpone yet but I don’t know at this stage whether it’s just because I’m in denial Grin

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 09/07/2020 18:44

Are they envisaging these restrictions still being in place for December - I think that when you said - or will they be reviewed and looked at before then?

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 18:47

Goodness only knows. It’s certainly not looking good. My plan is still to wait until the end of September to postpone, unless the venue force our hand before then, which they have said they’ll only do if someone else wants the date they’re provisionally holding for us for next year.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 09/07/2020 18:53

That's a good plan - but it's must be completely shit situation to be in and I do feel for you.

It was bad enough when we were doing this wait and see with our holiday - and that wasn't an important life event, didn't have the same price tag and didn't involved lots of guests and other people.

AnxiousElephant
The wedding roolz made me upset too, & I've been married a while now.
It reads like a Puritan's love poem.
A wedding should be loud and joyful, not a disinfected muttering.
And yes, the hand-washing after exchanging rings rule, well!Hmm Whoever wrote that is in for a nasty shock when they find out about the birds & the bees!

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 18:54

Thanks loves. I still feel horribly guilty even being bothered about it but I AM BOTHERED.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2020 18:55
@Willow2017
You make perfect sense. I've felt that same weirdness where I've questioned something like caffe Nero not using washable crockery when the restaurant next door is doing so, & then started to doubt myself.

Same thing happens when I tell other people I've been out & about. I tell them because I had a nice time, because I want people to know how easy & "safe" it is to do everyday stuff, & then I get, "Oh that's nice. But I'm not going to do that, ^it isn't safe."

I feel like I'm being gaslighted.

Like you, I've enjoyed something simple like going out for a cup of tea, then my mood's come crashing down because things aren't quite right.

You are not losing your powers of reasoning.
I suppose it's like the uncanny valley thing.
It's bad enough when something moves in the supermarket, but when everything is a bit off, it makes everything off balance and harder to pick out what's wrong.

I'm on a mission to do lots of lovely things and brag about it.
Back to the zoo on Monday. Is it bad that I went for early in the week before Leicester emerges from their lockdown?

Ibake · 09/07/2020 18:56

@anxious of course you must wash your hands. Did you not get the memo re hole in the white sheet a la Gilead for sex going forward? There will be no contamination of people for health or reasons of virtue.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 18:58

@Ibake I’m doing that already in case Boris has a hidden camera somewhere.

Ibake · 09/07/2020 18:59

probably has. pervert

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:00

I know the important thing is that the kids can go to school. I do. I understand that. But my dress is really nice Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2020 19:02

Yet anywhere else you go, you can't wash your hands because the toilets are all closed Hmm

I'd be bricking myself if I had a wedding on the horizon. I'm all for an un mumsnetty big wedding!

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:03

I’m a terrible crank normally. So this has brought out a lovely colour in me.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2020 19:04

Nah, kids get 13years of school. You only get one day to wear a wedding dress. Priorities!
AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:05

Second marriage but I hope you’ll still support me Grin

Nihiloxica · 09/07/2020 19:07

Of course you are bothered.

Weddings are important.

That's why we campaigned for years for marriage equality - because getting married matters (if that's what you choose).

It's a civil right and an important personal and social event.

The people who want to redefine "essential" to mean the barest minimum to survive are monstrous.

They're the same vindictive arseholes that brought us the benefit cap and benefit sanctions.

Be as pissed off as you want and have every right to be. Especially here.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:08

@Nihiloxica I really think you’d make an excellent Prime Minister.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 09/07/2020 19:12

Dresses are important as is having somewhere to ware them.

MIL often laments she has a wardrobe full of beautiful dresses but no-one dresses up anymore so if she wares them she feel over dressed.

Mind you Dd2 had quiet lockdown birthday and used her birthday vouchers on a 1950 party style dress - we sent photos and everyone was asking why she was so dressed up -and where we were going. She alternates between dresses like that and jeans and T-shirts.
