@Teateaandmoretea

And according to ONS the infection rate is 1 in 3700.

I feel like things are starting to get to a point where it will be tolerable.

I saw somewhere though that the Balearics are going to mandate masks everywhere including on the beach. That’ll make them a popular holiday destination....

The suntan lines will be amusing.

God, my book club currently doing my head in. 13 of us due to attend on Friday, decision was taken to split the group into 2 gardens and zoom for the actual book club discussion (which is normally about 5 mins Grin) and then at least we can chill and be face to face. Both hosts have huge patio areas.

One has just said she won't go because that would be 7 and 6 which is against the roolz. Trying to be helpful I pointed out that the patios are huge and if she went to a local pub garden there would be more people, plus Cheshire East have had no new cases for 3 days and our rolling infection rate is down to 1.7 people over 7 days.

Read it to DH first in case I was being too, ahem, forthright and he ok'd it! Reply just came back - 'Really don't think it's right with my job to be in the 7 group but thanks anyway'. Yup, you guessed it, she's a teacher.

Am currently typing this to you lot so that I don't go on WhatsApp instead to type 'good, didn't want you there anyway you fun sponge'.

And breathe.

I have hardly been on this thread.

Working is exhausting 😁 10 hour days seven days a week over the summer to try and catch up.

Hope everyone is well. Sorry if you're not, glad if you are.

countrygirl99 · 09/07/2020 19:21

Anxiouselephant77 I hope you get the wedding you want, family friends fizz and fun. There was no handwashing yesterday but as it was only the officials the couple and us as witnesses my son was carrying the rings. But weddings are important and the brides father doing the speech via a Facebook group isn't the same.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:22

Haha! I do miss getting dressed up. Although I'm not sure the yoof get massively dressed up any more, apart from on TikTok and instagram.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:23

I'm glad they got to get married @countrygirl99 it looked beautiful.

**The people who want to redefine "essential" to mean the barest minimum to survive are monstrous.

Yes! Walked past the station today. British Transport Police had signs up saying non-essential travel is an offence.

Bastards! To visit my DPs, not to provide care, but to just, you know, have fun & be sociable, & because we love each other, I need to go by train. So maintaining a meaningful relationship with my family is not deemed essential & I am breaking the law.

And I've just looked in the mirror with my glasses on & my bad hair and seen Jenny Harries looking back.

This can all sod off now.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:26

@TheOrchidKiller My mum is coming on Tuesday to stay for two days, she lives two hours away. Not essential, but I haven't seen her for 5 months and all this can get to fuck.

Nihiloxica · 09/07/2020 19:32

Ergo, essential travel.

For 3 weeks essential travel can be just to the food shop.

Over an indefinite period visiting immediate family is essential.

Don't let the Dementors define essential.

Bollss · 09/07/2020 19:32

Just catching up. Thanks everyone for your kind words re work. I'd love to blame covid but none of them are rule followers. I think it's possibly because of other redundancies and generally being a bit shit. Can't wait to start new job.

Also @AnxiousElephant77 I sooooo hope your wedding can go ahead as planned without all these stupid shitty rules.

I should have been getting married in just over a week so I feel your pain Sad

You have a human right to a family life.

Seeing your mother in person is essential.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 19:34

@TrustTheGeneGenie I've been thinking about you, yours will be here in no time.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2020 19:41

One of our best Brownie nights ever was the night we caught a train. That was it. City A, round to B then straight back home. They loved it. Some of them had never been on a train before! Our city is too small for a suburban service so by the time you get to the main train station, it's only really worth it to go city to city which many of them won't need to do.

There is a human right to a family life. Access to family after 4+ months is pretty essential as a normal part of family life.

Worldgonecrazy · 09/07/2020 19:46

Someone needs to have a word with British Transport Olive about their posters. Non essential is such a woolly word, unenforceable by law. I could work from home but I choose not to, therefore my travel is not essential, there are no posters telling me that. There are other corona related posters and warnings every 6 feet, so I’m sure I’d have been told if I was being illegal.

Honestly you're right, this last few months though absolutely horrific, has passed quite quickly in a weird sort of way. Hopefully this next year will pass quickly too and all this will be bloody well over!

Worldgonecrazy · 09/07/2020 19:47

P.s. enjoy being a criminal and eat cake on the train 😋 as an excuse to remove your mask

SeaOtterFluff · 09/07/2020 19:49

DD2 has been to London with her BFF. They are both 16 and it should have been their summer for big adventures after their GCSEs, so this was their first step towards being normal again. It's about an hour on the train and she's spent the day catching the tube, looking at Top Shop on Oxford Street then picking up bargains in vintage shops in Hoxton. BFF is staying the night and it's wonderful to hear normal teenage laughter. I am really glad they aren't fearful of going out and haven't lost the desire to explore the real world!

Hmmmmm I'm 99% sure that's not true now anyway. That part of the regulations, I think, was rescinded in the latest version on July 3rd...
DrearyWallAntler · 09/07/2020 20:01

Tescos seem to have abandoned all their one way systems, arrows and mystery que systems.

All felt very normal

Bollss · 09/07/2020 20:12

A pub near where I used to live has announced its closing for a deep clean because someone has tested positive who went in.

Commenters are suggesting that everyone who went in the pub that day, and the days following until the closure should self isolate for 14 days. And all the staff.

Why why why why why!

DH went to ASDA today, said the arrows were still there. I think it is the first time he has been to a big supermarket.
Mascotte · 09/07/2020 20:24

How long do you reckon the masks thing will go on for?

MagdaS · 09/07/2020 20:27

I have just been on my bastard walk through the ‘village’ centre (really a suburb). Was pleasantly active with people in the restaurants and bars that were open - some still shut or just doing takeaway. The barbers were all on late night opening as well. Still had someone leap into the road to avoid me. Hmm
