On the masks thread there are people boasting they will secretly film non mask wearers on public transport to shame on social media. Sickening behaviour, I don’t like people much at the nest of times, and the Covid situation has reinforced my dislike.

Assholes.

@TrustTheGeneGenie that's crap really rotten of them :( I'm so glad you've got somewhere better to go!

@wanderings I was worried about exactly that with our cats. Honestly I would put nothing past some of the idiots in this country.

Ds2 is a my mum & dad's for a sleepover! I didn't tell him until just before they collected him (just in case it was cancelled) ... I haven't seen him so happy for months. Made me cry. Feel a bit lost without him though!

Also, amazingly, my mum has said she's got a hairdresser appointment next week (in our big plague infested (not) town!) and they are going to try to use Rishi's meal deal vouchers, as long as they can sit outside. My BIL & sister are going to stay with them for the weekend too. They are in their late 60s & had a close friend die from covid - this is a massive step for them.

DD1 was busy at work yesterday - they've got rid of all the kitchen porters so she was doing a lot of running ... sore feet today! Customers are getting a bit grumpy about having to wait for their server ... wait staff aren't allowed to even talk to customers who aren't on one of their tables.

NothingIsWrong · 09/07/2020 16:58

I was on a team call with my bosses boss this afternoon and he asked how I was doing. Got a long rant about not coping and it taking up too much room and I missed the office.

Apparently our office will be covid secure as of Monday and I can apply to go back a couple of days a week! Will have to be set days and a set desk, but that's what I had anyway due to childcare and special DSE for CAD work. Very happy here, the end is in sight. Mid August I reckon I should be back in

torydeathdrug · 09/07/2020 17:02

@NothingIsWrong woo hoo! Excellent news!

Willow2017 · 09/07/2020 17:04

Aww thats pants Genie a card wouldn't have hurt.

TheOrchidKiller · 09/07/2020 17:04

@DominaShantotto We're getting a load of stuff on delivering teletherapy at uni now - apparently it's going to be the new normal in terms of speech for a lot of the time.

In the real world we are doing a mix. Teletherapy & phone calls where it's appropriate, & seeing patients in PPE the rest of the time. Teletherapy doesn't work for everyone. It should not be the default treatment option for all, & the assumption that it will solve all problems in healthcare gets my goat.

Some comments about the Nazis- I studied the rise of the Nazis for A level history. In recent times, when people have expressed surprise at certain politicians getting elected or at certain events, I'm not surprised because I can see parallels between how Hitler came to power & what's been happening more recently.

OH has just come out with, "People like to stick to the rules because then they can point at other people not sticking to the rules!"

KaronAVyrus · 09/07/2020 17:07

I never realised I’m such a rule breaker. Took the bus today and half way through I just took my mask off and put it in my handbag - it was just too hot, sweaty and can’t wear my glasses with it on.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 09/07/2020 17:07

@TrustTheGeneGenie I had that once too and although now many years ago, it still stings. My manager (and his manager) gave me a card and gift which had obviously come straight from petty cash + their own pockets.

I have zero regrets about leaving that poisonous place - however, ended up deleting my LinkedIn profile for years because a few of the really toxic fuckers stalked my profile for years. In fact, only just created a new profile last month. It dents your confidence in ways you’d not expect.

Pleasedontdothat · 09/07/2020 17:10

@TrustTheGeneGenie that’s crap - you’re definitely better off out of there

I’ve been doing a happy dance as I’m not going to be made redundant after all! The rest of my team is being disbanded which is shite but my role (with me in it!) is being moved to a different team which isn’t being considered for redundancies. I’ve done lots of projects with the new team and they’re all lovely so feeling hugely relieved

I can’t bring myself to go for a haircut though ... I’m just boycotting anything which would mean I have to wear a ludicrous mask...

Ibake · 09/07/2020 17:14

@nothingiswrong and @pleasedontdothat. Great news on the jobs front.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/07/2020 17:17

@TrustTheGeneGenie, that's rotten. But I am glad the new people seem nice!
@KaronAVyrus, the mask causes you severe distress so you didn't wear it, good for you Smile

I am typing this in a PLAYGROUND! @Mrsfrumble, some Hackney playgrounds are OPEN!

Of course, now am stuck pushing swings for the foreseeable! GrinAngry

Nihiloxica · 09/07/2020 17:20

Be careful what you wish for! Grin

IAintentDead · 09/07/2020 17:24

Yay - swimming is started.

Well outdoors from Saturday and indoors in 2 weeks

(and gyms but I won't be going there)

Ibake · 09/07/2020 17:26

But did you see the journalist just ask the question that butterfly stroke will not be allowed? I am genuinely perplexed by this. What scientific model identified that splashing in chlorinated water will cause instant DEATH?
torydeathdrug · 09/07/2020 17:28

Indoor Gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities will reopen in England from July 25, outdoor pools will reopen from July 11.

^^ have to wait & see if the child-haters put in any Nasty Roolz before I get too excited.

Teateaandmoretea · 09/07/2020 17:28

@Ibake it was in the swim England guidance 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔.

Outdoors from Saturday well maybe if they’d told them that a couple of weeks ago. It isn’t just a case of filling them with a fucking hose

PatriciaHolm · 09/07/2020 17:28

Announced (from BBC) -
"Outdoor pools will be able to re-open on 11 July
Indoor gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities will then be able to re-open from 25 July
Grassroots sport will be able to return from this coming weekend, beginning with cricket (other sports will follow)
Outdoor theatres will be able to start up from Saturday
Small pilots of indoor performances with socially distanced audiences will also take place to help work out the best way to get them up and running
From Monday 13 June, beauticians, tattooists, spas, tanning salons and other close contact services can reopen "subject to some restrictions on particularly high-risk services"

BakewellTarts · 09/07/2020 17:28

It's bonkers isn't it?!

DDs hate butterfly anyway so won't be sad about that.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/07/2020 17:28

Wait, what? Butterfly causes Covid?

Just figured it out! Butterfly is the most fun stroke and this is a moral virus!

torydeathdrug · 09/07/2020 17:29

But did you see the journalist just ask the question that butterfly stroke will not be allowed?

^my kids would be delighted if butterfly was banned they hate it :p

PatriciaHolm · 09/07/2020 17:29

Oh, and that must be 13 July. Oops.

Detailed doc doesn't seem to be up yet. Am interested in how they are going to approach theatres. I MISS THEATRE.

PatriciaHolm · 09/07/2020 17:31

Butterfly - it's apparently because it takes up too much space, given lanes will be restricted anyway.

BakewellTarts · 09/07/2020 17:33

@TrustTheGeneGenie

Well AD's I'm unhappy today.

I went into work to collect my things, I barely got a goodbye, no cards no presents nothing. After 5 and a half years. Nothing. Sad

Thats really sad...although I went to a Zoom leaving do which was pretty shit too. Its not good for any change.
TheOrchidKiller · 09/07/2020 17:40

Re swimming & butterfly stroke :

To quote Victoria Wood

"I thought you could get pregnant if you swam the backstroke in the same lane as a boy who'd just swum the butterfly."
