So let me get this right Nicola is suggesting that the scots cannot fly abroad, have I got this right? Dripford has not agreed yet, in fact been silent on the matter. OH laughed we are an hour from Manchester, he said if we did want to go who could stop us, or stop us returning after the holiday.

Talking to a friend about welsh summer holidays, there has been hardly any take up because Dripford is fannying around so people are nervous about booking still.

rookiemere · 28/06/2020 16:54

justasking legally, I'm not sure Nicola can stop Scots flying abroad as I believed that's a central government matter, but I think she can impose or retain the two week quarantine period as that could be viewed to be a devolved health matter.

Goodness only knows why they didn't raise the matter with the English government, as airbridges have been common knowledge as under discussion for about a week.

I have to admit a sneaking admiration for Boris, for just unilaterally going ahead and announcing it, even though its joe public that it generally screws up.He knew that even if he did have discussions in advance, they'd either refuse or Nicola would find a spin to announce how Scotland would do it differently.

MagdaS · 28/06/2020 16:55

Big city dweller here. We live in the suburbs and I would normally use public transport to get into the centre. I haven’t been into the city since before lockdown, but have been to a couple of local smaller town centres. There is no need for me to go in as I can get everything I need close by or online. I most frequently visited the city for work meetings and obviously they have all migrated to Teams. This seems to be the same for most people I know.

SomewhereEast · 28/06/2020 16:56

I'm Irish so am usually sympathetic to Scotland, BUT....if the Scottish Gov wants to pursue a different strategy to the rest of the UK than they should pay for that strategy themselves. Its much easier to risk running your economy into the ground when you know the wider UK is there to prop you up. Ditto Wales. There is no fucking way a country with Wales' economy could afford a Never-Ending Lockdown if it was independent.

Willow2017 · 28/06/2020 16:58

Not if she closes the border and won't let you out.

There are so many small roads that cross the border it would be a heck of a job! Never mind the main roads.
Plus with food and all the other stuff coming and going and people working on either side it would be huge undertaking.

Would love to see them justify the manpower needed and disruption caused.😀

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/06/2020 16:59

@Willow2017

Today I am mostly being irritated by reading all the fucking time "it doesn't mean the virus has gone away, it just means there is more room in ICU for you".

That was on a few threads past few days too. I lost it and bit! Said I thought that this trite little soundbite was getting really tiresome now. It's just thier lucky charm. If they say it often enough it will stop them getting the virus as they are soooo more knowledgeable and virtuous than everyone else. Idiots.

Nothing that's crap. We are not all like that honest! Ignorance is bliss.

I just always comment "Well, yeah that was the whole fucking point of this horror show"
Ibake · 28/06/2020 16:59

If any of you Celts need safe harbour in order to have a summer holiday I live 20mins from Manchester Airport. Bollox to Saint Nic and Dripford

Oops and I forgot to add

SomewhereEast · 28/06/2020 17:00

Given the entire British Army couldn't secure the Irish border at the height of the Troubles I doubt NS & some Scottish coppers could do anything about theirs.

SockYarn · 28/06/2020 17:00

Saint Nicola can also say no flights from Scottish airports. (The airports aren't closed anyway, flights into Glasgow have been landing right through the lockdown, mainly domestic flights but a daily one from Amsterdam too).

She can't shut the border. The "border" is just a theoretical line on a map, she can't shut the border any more than they could stop people driving from Lancashire into Merseyside.

Our numbers are SO low but still she persists with her daily death count briefing as she's not prepared to give up her 30 minutes each day to preach at us on the telly.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/06/2020 17:02

I was under the impression that border control fell to Westminster, she has no control over anyone going on holiday?

KaronAVyrus · 28/06/2020 17:02

I wonder what the viewing figures will be for the Queen Nikki’s Sadly Daily Death Show? Must be the die hard cult members watching now. Everyone else in Scotland seems to be ignoring her because there is no social distancing happening where I live.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 28/06/2020 17:02

Went for our walk - one end of our road is a wood other is dual carriageway with usually busy footpaths.

We went down main raod and they've spray painted in yellow paint on the footpath every so often 2 m reminder guide all along. I'm not sure there's room at the pedestrian crossing lights for any distancing of 2 m with more than a few people.

We did think we might book something in Wales later in summer when we canceled dorset holiday but frankly that's looking less likely the longer restrictions go on it seems less worth it.

KaronAVyrus · 28/06/2020 17:04

I was thinking of booking Northumberland for a week. Such a beautiful part of the world.

ssd · 28/06/2020 17:04

Just been to b&m. Queued in the rain. Bought pile of shite.

Livin the dream.

She doesn't want people to forget how much 'she has done for us'and needs to keep reminding them for votes next election. Heaven forbid we forget 'her' sacrifices😉

I probably shouldn’t laugh...

Councils will be losing money hand over fist yet waste it on crap like this?
Then they will hike up council tax and rents to pay for it all.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/06/2020 17:11

I’d like to see wee Nicky in her mask queuing outside B&M to buy shite just to give herself a break from the monotony.

justasking111 · 28/06/2020 17:12

Took kids into town Friday, two shopping parks there. The nearest one was rammed, B&M Home Bargains being the big draw there. The other park has Debenhams, New Look, Boots, Next, River Island etc. Easy to get in and out. Yesterday when Primark, New Look and Laura Ashley opened the kids went again and town was absolutely solid with traffic.

I think that people do want to be out and about now, I cannot believe many are following the 5 mile rule with the amount of traffic I was sat in yesterday.

SpnBaby1967 · 28/06/2020 17:13

Been to karate this morning, outside. First time we opened it to the full class and not just the black belts and the majority of the students returned. It felt so nice to see.

I still keep making the mistake of having a panic at the new infection rates, but then I give my head a wobble & remind myself that even if there is 1000 new infections, most of those will feel a bit shit for a week or two and then be fine.

Dh and I are planning to diet together soon, I need to shift a couple of stone. He needs to shift 3-4 stone, he has way better will power than me so I need his help to stay on the straight & narrow.

My son keeps asking if the playgrounds will open, poor sod just wants to go on a swing! Hes been in and out all weekend pokemon hunting and sadly most of the buggers hang out at play parks round here.

Dowser · 28/06/2020 17:14

@Willow2017
Oh willow..I’m so sorry I honestly thought everywhere was pretty similar.

That’s just not on is it.
It was in the beginning, then a few businesses started putting their heads above the parapet round about VE Day
I know we went to staithes about April 25 and all was shut and was Sandsend and I think all of whitby
Yep it was VE Day that did it.

Actually seaham seemed to be the first off the block , there were a lot more coffee shops and takeaways along the seafront open, so we all headed for there.
Now our town, is practically business as usual.
Just waiting for the mobile pizza van man to set up with his little oven..oh and nandos.
It had only opened three days before lockdown.
We have a little pub on the beach open
Loads of sand dunes for the teens to have illicit bbqs in
Rightio
I’m taking mr Dowser for a trot along a little beach my dd discovered that not many use
Seeing as how it hasn’t rained today
I hate the wind
I may stay in the car

@Willitneverend

Bleurgh. I hate the "close the border" brigade.

Some of the SNP folk seem mortally offended that initial reporting of the Glasgow stabbing incident reported 3 people as being dead and this is the fault of the BBC. We're not allowed any death apart from coronavirus now.

That's fucking out of order.
Mascotte · 28/06/2020 17:14

The tartan "kilt" face covering has really finished me off with NS. It's like fucking Brigadoon up here.

Mascotte · 28/06/2020 17:15

She can't close the border but could potentially put in place quarantine. I know it will probably be OK, but it's one more thing to worry about.
