I read that dailymail article.

I'm now confused about the numbers - but it seems that not all testing postive numbers are in the public domain and apparently it's these none public numbers from private labs that have shown the massive increase in Leicester.

TuckMyWin · 30/06/2020 13:01

The daily mail article is nonsense. They are using only testing numbers from clinically led tests, not tests from the community. Community tests now make up around 75% of the numbers apparently. So it's a hugely incomplete picture. Plus, they are using week on week percentage increases. The area at the top of the list went from 2 to 8 infections week on week. Hardly a hotbed of infection.

Dowser · 30/06/2020 13:02

Wondered what the middle of Leicester looked like , so went to webcam and was hoping to see it looked busy but it looked like this

Have we just got to stay at home forever with the hope that there is a vaccine sometime in the next 2 years. I’m so bored I can’t take much more of this.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 30/06/2020 13:05

TuckMyWin - It's good it's not just me thinking this isn't making much sense.

FizzFan · 30/06/2020 13:05

9 deaths in Scotland in the past 7 days
23 the week before

I’m also very sceptical about the ICU figures about people with “suspected” CV19 being included. Surely they must be testing people who need ICU?

Nihiloxica · 30/06/2020 13:06

All I have to say at this point is

MALAKAS!

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/06/2020 13:08

I see we aren't on the list, despite all the Brummie virus that's being slathered over our beaches, chippies and ice cream parlours.
That must be a bitter disappointment to thd local dementors Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 13:08

@Nihiloxica

All I have to say at this point is

MALAKAS!

Love it!!!
FizzFan · 30/06/2020 13:08

I would also like to know where it’s actually being spread now. I would guess it’s care homes and hospitals largely but who knows

Dowser · 30/06/2020 13:10

By comparison los cristianos beach..my favourite

Still very quiet for this time of year

Isn't that the media equivalent of "I've got a mate in the pub who told me" though?

"Non-public" numbers from "private labs"? Really? And this is accountable how, and to whom?
It's like the Sadly Daily Death Show - deaths in a hospital setting that can be verified at source, all good. Another hundred or so chucked on top from the random fuck-knows-where fairy: OK, where is this data from? When did it happen?

amicissimma · 30/06/2020 13:27

Oh my goodness! Gloucestershire! 200% increase! There won't be an ICU bed for miles around!

Oh, 3 positives in a week against one the week before. In just over 900,000 people.

But that's how it starts ... Exponential rise ... can't be too careful ...

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 30/06/2020 13:28

But PHE has only revealed the area-by-area data for 63 per cent of the infections – meaning the location of 115,000 confirmed cases is missing.

The massive disparity in figures is seen clearly in Leicester. Leicester City Council (LCC) claims there has been 3,216 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases across the city since Britain's outbreak began to spiral out of control in February.

Local officials revealed 944 of those Covid-19 infections were diagnosed in the past fortnight — meaning the city's epidemic has grown by roughly 70.6 per cent since mid-June. This equates to roughly 977 coronavirus cases for every 100,000 people.

But that data given to the LCC, which takes into account the results of all tests carried out across NHS, Public Health England and commercial laboratories, is not available to the public.

Government-released data shows Leicester has only recorded 1,056 cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began — a third of the figure obtained by LCC. It revealed only 366 new infections have been confirmed in May and June.

I read that as some data isn't in public domian.

But PP pointed out there mixing up a lot of different stats in that article and it is confusing.

HesterShaw1 · 30/06/2020 13:28

I can't stop saying MALAKAS now. Thank you for the new word. I just called the boyf it - "You big old Malakas," I said, all affectionate.

Has the Prime Minister said something sensible?

I just posted something similar on my FB, with reference to poor old Leicester and Nicola Stupid Tartan Mask Sturgeon. I hid it from a few pre-selected friends with dementoring tendencies. There are people creeping out of the woodwork, wanting change. There are more of them than we think.

Haven't been back to That Thread though. My last contribution was basically telling someone to fuck off.

Pleasedontdothat · 30/06/2020 13:35

Just squeaking into this thread before the new one ... I’m currently waiting in a queue for the post office in the sodding rain ...

What are the phrases and words you never want to hear again?

Mine (in no particular order) are:

Social distancing - especially when used in the adverbial form

New normal

Stay safe

Unprecedented times

Flock (to beaches etc)

Flout

Second wave/surge/spike

I despair

Until it’s safe ...

What have I missed?

Dowser · 30/06/2020 13:35
