Just seen someone suggest ankle tags to keep track of people leaving the area, but only those on benifits, as a condition of payment of said benifits!!! WTAF?

And I thought mumsnet was left wing 😂😂

Nihiloxica · 30/06/2020 09:37

Hope it all goes well Jourdain Smile

So Nicola Sturgeon is going for "elimination".

Rid Scotland of the dangerous virus called The Economy for good.

Make the filthy disease-ridden Sasanachs pay for it. Hmm

rookiemere · 30/06/2020 09:39

Mascotte NS dreams we are NZ and she will be lauded for stamping out the virus across the land. Except we don't live on an island we're in the bloody UK, and I never signed up to giving away my rights to see family and travel across the border.

Numbers will go up. It's inevitable even if we shut down Scotland for good, the reopening of shops and public transport means a small but inevitable increase. Would she like to keep things locked down until winter when we'll all be screwed - especially our children's education?

Surely - if nothing else - the Leicester reaction should prove that England is taking this seriously. But we were never sold eradication, the message was flatten the curve so we have manageable mini bumps.

I'd like to travel to England now, just so I could get there before she hatches her next dastardly scheme, except there is nowhere we could stay right now.

I'm normally a very stoical person - after years of training myself to be this way - but this lurching from one day to the next with changes - none good - is impacting my equilibrium.

Still at least I will be able to see the pandas on Saturday with our zoo tickets - unless she decides that meerkats spread it or something and it's deemed too risky again.

Bollss · 30/06/2020 09:39

Nicola sturgeon wants eliminating herself imo.

Willitneverend · 30/06/2020 09:39

@mascotte I think I changed it about a month in! Seems like a long time ago now.

People do seem to be increasingly getting fed up of NS dementoring from Facebook. I haven't seen any polling data for a while.

I am going to a farm park at the weekend, and going to watch Hamilton (I know Hamilton is a Stay At Home activity but it's one I would have done anyway).

Herald dementoring about Arran holiday businesses not having a season this year. There were folk hiding in car boots to try and escape to see relatives recently.

rookiemere · 30/06/2020 09:40

Trust I agree, we keep people alive for years with poor quality of life and now we're all locked in limbo seemingly forever to support that.

Bollss · 30/06/2020 09:43

@rookiemere

Exactly. I just don't agree with it and I guess a lot of people would say oh well sign a DNR then. I'm 24 and I fucking would because there is no way in hell I want to be kept alive to "exist" in any way shape or form. If I can't make my own decisions, and move about on my own I'd rather be dead.
SeaOtterFluff · 30/06/2020 09:46

@Weedsnseeds1

I'm half tempted to start a Food factories should be closed immediately thread just to watch people make excuses as to why they should stay at home with their non-educated children and still receive a Tesco delivery....
Please do. The attitude of some on MN is astonishing - food is prepared by people, not machines. They don't count, because it's unskilled labour, often carried out by eastern European migrants on temporary contracts. As long as your delivery driver (again, low wage = not important) brings your finely cut beans and quinoa, it doesn't matter. Collateral damage.
Mascotte · 30/06/2020 09:47

@rookiemere yes, I think she's dreaming of being St Nicola of Corona, saving the Scots from the filthy English.

But I'm properly despairing now. And there's really nothing to do within even a vague short radius that my twelve year old will countenance. Or me, tbh as it's all just walks or outdoors stuff.

Agree as well, we were sold flatten the curve. Not eradication. I hate not knowing what's happening. And it seems so bonkers for an illness that kills so few people.

NUFC69 · 30/06/2020 09:50

Jourdain, good luck today and going forward.

I have just been listening to Radio Newcastle and it was reported that deaths there are now at the seasonal average, which is good news. Like a previous poster (Pickachew - her husband?) I have been asked to do the Covid19 test and saliva test some time over the next couple of weeks. Oddly enough my son has also been picked, different address a mile away - chosen randomly by Ipsos MORI. What are the chances of that?

I was going to book a few nights' stay in Pitlochry, but I don't think I will bother after hearing NS.

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 09:50

The Leicester map in circulation is a hypothetical one. None of the local MPs, local news media or councils have ANY indication of what area will actually be affected by the lockdown as of yet. It's now nearly 10am and that is absolutely unacceptable fucking bullshit.

Any of you, please please join your UsForThem FB groups and the different country ones and do their daily call to actions to try to get some sense out of this shitfest.

I've just nearly punched DH in the face - they're on their morning call joking on and laughing about colleagues who live in Leicester and were looking forward to getting haircuts. This is after he chirpily commented I seemed a bit glum this morning so I explained why... he told me to stop whining. Any more shite from him today and I'm going thermonuclear on his worthless arse.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/06/2020 09:51

DH is off to Bedford today to collect something for work, apparently a 'hotspot' Hmm

He said to me this morning 'if you asked most people if they would rather risk catching this virus, or seeing their livelihoods and businesses go down the drain what would most people choose' which is true I suppose.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/06/2020 09:54

Here's an obscure, but catchy bitter-sweet song for the lock down list. The lyrics are bang on. Fool's Garden, Lemon Tree.

How can there be a flu pandemic with heavily restricted international travel, and massively reduced social connections. Plus flu comes, goes and shifts all the time. And the most vulnerable to flu have already been sadly Covided.

We will keep our reasoned sadness/ anger/ disappointment/ hope, but we will not succumb to the Dementor's despair.

Blobby10 · 30/06/2020 09:54

*@Jourdain11 best wishes for today xx

Another Leicester(shire) resident here - work within the supposed lockdown perimeter but living 15 miles further south. I can't help being suspicious of this 'lockdown' and wonder if its just another social experiment to see how easily the 'citizens' give up their freedom. There seems no logic to it from the figures being released and the Councillor who commented two days ago that 'of course the numbers are going up we are doing more testing' has been mysteriously silent ever since. Sorry, I can't remember his name to justify this sentence but I promise its real and I haven't made it up - he was a councillor in the East Leicester area.

This whole lockdown thing is getting me down too even though my life hasn't really changed day to day. I've still been working full time, don't have a social life, have still been cycling as much as I want and don't go out to cinemas, restaurants or for shopping 'experiences'. It HAS impacted my children's lives as DS2 is unable to find a job and DD had her second year of uni ended early and has also had her national and international level sporting career put on hold.

TheGreatWave · 30/06/2020 09:54

Actually 500k global deaths in 6 months from a pandemic is pretty mild, I'd say, even if we will see a rise from here.

I was just googling average annual flu deaths, 650 000 a year, so not hugely higher.

Ibake · 30/06/2020 09:56

I just hope BoJo tells her to GTF re more money. Scotland and Wales must not get any more funding than the rest of the UK if it chooses enhanced measures. Crack on love but pay for it out of your own budget. Discovered 2 of my friends, who are Scottish but live down here, are NS fans. They think she's doing a great job. I had to change the subject as I love them more than I love politics.

Nihiloxica · 30/06/2020 09:56

People are very cavalier with the livelihoods, business, mental health, physical (non-Covid obvs), education, development, safety, and freedom of OTHER PEOPLE.

Now we know how selfish most people are.

I'm fucked if I'm doing a single thing that isn't to protect people I care about, which includes my family and all non-Dementors.

SockYarn · 30/06/2020 09:59

Well I am off shopping with DD this morning. It will be HEAVING as the shops up here only opened yesterday but I don't care.

DD and I are buying new cushions, having a mooch round H&M and Hobbycraft and possibly a click and collect Nandos for lunch.

Can't wait.

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 10:00

See, I just don't understand the hysteria or am I missing something?

I’d choose the virus
We know it is recoverable from
If we dont choose the virus..The end result is still the same..only it is slower and more painful

Morning all! And positive vibes to @Jourdain11 and anyone else who needs them today.

Just to add to everyone's frustration at this bloody limbo we're all in. I've been monitoring confirmed cases in two areas for the last 50 days. And so today I can report that the number of confirmed cases (not sadly deaths) in the area where I live has gone up by 97 Hmm. Less than 2 a day.

And in the area where I WANT to live it has gone up by 27.

In 50 days!!!!! This pandemic really is ripping relentlessly through the sweaty masses, isn't it? Angry

Bollss · 30/06/2020 10:05

We've had 20 cases here since the 20th may. Less than one a day ffs.

FizzFan · 30/06/2020 10:12

Yes but that’s just so SELFISH it’s so SELFISH to put the needs of yourself and your family for things like a house and food before random people you don’t know who might SADLY DIE. But it’s not SELFISH at all of these people to insist et all stay locked up forever to protect them. Hope that’s clear.

Cattermole · 30/06/2020 10:12

@rookiemere and Genie - my late chap collapsed and died at home (three days before Christmas the selfish bastard) 12 years ago.
They worked on him after his heart stopped for about 30 minutes and I begged them to stop. He was a fierce, intelligent, questioning young man with an MA and everything...he would have hated "being kept alive". Breathing is not the same as being alive.
I remember watching them do the crash-thing on him in the hospital and thinking how mortified he would have been, lying on a table in front of strangers in his skanky old Father Ted t shirt with his bollocks hanging out of the leg of his pants while they tried to jump-start him.
The staff, I suspect, thought I was some kind of monster. Not all NHS staff think like that, I get that, but these guys were very much "WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE HIM!!! Be GRATEFUL!!" Well mate he was a) already broken and b) has been starved of oxygen for almost half an hour, he wasn't gonna thank you any more than I am if you bring him back now....

I think this must be where I got my snarky attitude. Life should not be preserved at all costs.

Ibake · 30/06/2020 10:16

@Mascotte

See, I just don't understand the hysteria or am I missing something?
Exactly Mascotte and that trend will likely continue if you follow the logic that I know we all do on here that covid has already taken some people who were nearing end of life. But it is only here that we are allowed to share that view (valiant effort yday @hestershaw but there really is no point). What I want to see though, when all this is done, is the breakdown so we can try and quaintify the flu deaths, the additional suicides, the additional COPD deaths, the additional cancer deaths etc. We have averages for all of those so we will be able to report on excess deaths for all categories and it won't be easy reading. At least RTA's will be down I suppose.
