Hope all is well Jourdain11

I have had to stop reading the holidays thread now it's winding me up too much. I hope some people to manage to get away and have a holiday.

One new case in our city this week. One.

Bollss · 30/06/2020 10:16
@rookiemere and Genie - my late chap collapsed and died at home (three days before Christmas the selfish bastard) 12 years ago.
They worked on him after his heart stopped for about 30 minutes and I begged them to stop. He was a fierce, intelligent, questioning young man with an MA and everything...he would have hated "being kept alive". Breathing is not the same as being alive.
I remember watching them do the crash-thing on him in the hospital and thinking how mortified he would have been, lying on a table in front of strangers in his skanky old Father Ted t shirt with his bollocks hanging out of the leg of his pants while they tried to jump-start him.
The staff, I suspect, thought I was some kind of monster. Not all NHS staff think like that, I get that, but these guys were very much "WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE HIM!!! Be GRATEFUL!!" Well mate he was a) already broken and b) has been starved of oxygen for almost half an hour, he wasn't gonna thank you any more than I am if you bring him back now....

I think this must be where I got my snarky attitude. Life should not be preserved at all costs.
Sorry to hear that @Mascotte that must have been really hard but I completely agree with your perspective. I'd make the same call for dp because I know for certain that's what he'd want.

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 10:22

Us For Them England are targeting WankSock today in their call to action. DH is despairing of me but it's all I can do.

Ibake · 30/06/2020 10:22

@cattermole and in fact many of you on here. Do you think there's a correlation re the shit that life throws at you and your attitude to life? Certainly true for me. Had quite a lot to deal with at early age including family suicide and cancer and I'm a tough old bird. I know that death is devastating at the time but that life afterwards is not just possible but sweet too. In fact I think shitty things have made me grab life's chances with both hands as the good stuff is what shores you up against the inevitable bad.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/06/2020 10:24

Morning all.

Good luck today Jourdain11 I hope everything goes your way.

Flowers to anybody affected by the Leicester situation, it's shit.

I've joined and I'll be emailing him. Dp is a Very laid back, what will be will be, person. He thinks I've gone mad, but he knows the outcome will be worse if I sit on my hands and do nothing.
Mascotte · 30/06/2020 10:26

@Ibake yes, me too and I agree. Life is for living not cowering "just in case".

DP has got worried and won't come on holiday now. So I can go by myself or stay here doing nothing for months and months.

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 10:27

Oh but it's OK cos Leicester City are allowed to play football... but the kids can't go to their distanced schools.

Now isn't that sounding like golf and garden centres coming before anything the kids might enjoy again?

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 10:30

www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/map-shows-exact-areas-leicester-4276783 the proper Leicester map.

justasking111 · 30/06/2020 10:31

We used to cal dying with flu the old people's friend, guess I'd be lynched for saying that now.
Yesterday's figures across North Wales. 6 cases and one death. We're the hot spot of Wales. There was talk of shutting Anglesey down because of the meat plant. Soon realised many workers came from all along the n Wales coast into deeside.

Wrexham meat plant outbreak they can't find 300 workers to test. Dodgy HR there methinks

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 10:33

Just had a tweet from my local council about play areas though (this is Broxtowe)

In line with Govt advice, we are currently assessing all play areas to make sure they are safe for use and clean and tidy. We will be opening the play areas on a phased approach with the largest high profile ones first with sites distributed across all areas of the Borough.

Dowser · 30/06/2020 10:34

I’ve joined all of the us for them groups

Spotted this

Any Mumsnet/ Netmums members in the house? Please can you share our group there to help us grow?

So here we go

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 10:35

Oh there's more. We are looking to start opening the play areas from Monday 13th July (so our kids have to wait even longer fuckwits) and over a 2 week period all the areas will be back open for use. As the play areas open signs will be erected outlining both the council's and residents' role in keeping the areas safe.

They could lock them up faster than they can unlock them - funny that

Willow2017 · 30/06/2020 10:41

Good luck today Jourdain11 fingers crossed for you.

PickAChew · 30/06/2020 10:58

Yes, @NUFC69 it was my husband who got picked.

Nearly had a good news story unrelated to COVID-19 as I thought I'd found the owner of a pair of glasses I found, last week. Turned out they're not his, though. The guy is heading off to Greece in a few weeks, though so there's someone who refuses to be dementored!

Flipping heck, how to drag your heels over it.

We venture over to Broxtowe a bit to places like Bramcote and West Park.
Mind you, knowing my council, I doubt that they'll be any better. I'm not sure that they've sorted out public toilets in parks yet.

Our local playground is rubbish anyway, not much more than a toddler area, then a weird scaffoldy type thing that's difficult to get across (too big for me at 5'2") and this is to serve a neughbourhood of 14,000 people with modern shoebox gardens with little space for equipment. Ours is bigger than average for the area and mowing the lawn is like tetris of the goal post, slide and trampoline to clear space to mow one zone at a time. We travel to play. Yesterday we walked just over a mile to the nearest village because it's much better for children over 4 years. I've been eyeing up another in a village a bit further out too. The DCs hadn't walked out there before lockdown.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 11:01

Good luck @Jourdain11

Think we can weave Malakas into the next thread title 😁

Orangeblossom78 · 30/06/2020 11:05

Spotted another very misleading article on the BBC today going on about how the virus has no regard for previous health etc- at the same time as the person in the article has diabetes and a previous heart attack. very poor reporting once again. (no mention of the health conditions which were mentioned previously) Hmm

Ibake · 30/06/2020 11:07

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Good luck *@Jourdain11*

Think we can weave Malakas into the next thread title 😁

But, but, but I was promised a thread title next - stamps foot - If you recall it was 'well open the playgrounds and swimming pools then you knob'. However am happy to concede that switching knob to malaka would be a good move.
PickAChew · 30/06/2020 11:07

ADs: Altogether, now... MALAKAS!!!

PickAChew · 30/06/2020 11:14

Terrible cross post with @Ibake there. Very rude of me, I'm sorry!

Cattermole · 30/06/2020 11:18

Dare I ask what malakas means?

Ibake · 30/06/2020 11:21

@PickAChew Grin Have to say I do like your shout out too - and I would suffer terrible thread anxiety were I to start one!

CarrotPuff · 30/06/2020 11:24

Where do you peeps get these numbers how many cases in your specific area? Although I could probably google myself...

I'm feeling a bit worried about our break to NI/RoI at the end of July. There was an article on BBC yesterday about rising cases in Ireland, but I could only see 2 isolated days with higher numbers on worldometer... 🤔

I'm not even risking to venture out to other threads today, the level of dementoring must be mind blowing...

Allflightscancelled · 30/06/2020 11:30

Carrotpuff there's a lookup tool on the BBC website. You can google 'how many covid cases in my area and the lookup tool comes up in the search. You enter your postcode and off you go
