Morning all. Happy to add malakas to my swearing arsenal, especially as it sounds so jolly and is therefore more potent if used right!

I don't get the other virus/pandemic stuff at all. I read the swine flu story and my immediate reaction was 'And this is why we've got to learn to live with this stuff as viruses ain't going anywhere'. It certainly wasn't 'and this is why I'm never leaving my house again'.

Also, if you want to read a full on smunt fest check out the 'are your teenagers following the rules' thread. Yeah, right!

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/06/2020 09:12

@Weedsnseeds1

Good luck Jourdain. They are loving it on that Leicester thread, aren't they? Just seen someone suggest ankle tags to keep track of people leaving the area, but only those on benifits, as a condition of payment of said benifits!!! WTAF?
That is fucking insane.
Mascotte · 30/06/2020 09:13

What a depressing morning again.

How can she realistically eliminate it without locking us in forever?

Holidays are madly expensive up here, and my latest plan to drive to Europe seems doomed. This is bad.

Any ADs got any positive news?

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 30/06/2020 09:14

@Jourdain11 good luck hope it goes well.

Why do any of go onto the school threads??

I don't know as I nearly always regret it.

Yersaterday was shit but today my first child is back in school for a few hours slow progress yea.

Though we we watching news last night and health secretary said children were badly affected in Leicester - which upset eldest watching with me - Y10 - then this morning on radio he said they were not badly affected by virus but were spreaders. Which again I though wasn't the case.

Willitneverend · 30/06/2020 09:16

@Mascotte I've just read an article where NS says she's very anxious about lockdown easing. It just feels like one person's anxiety is being splattered all over an entire country. I'm having stress dreams about how people want us to stay like this forever.

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/06/2020 09:16

What has actually happened is that some children have tested positive. All have mild cold symptoms. There is no evidence that any of them have spread it to anyone else but, y’know, mumble mumble, errr, schools, meat plants, mumble mumble, err, we don’t know anything, and all that. Basically.

Have people lost all sense of reason? Are people on benefits going to infect everybody while nice middle class people are too polite to infect others? The virus knows the difference?

I’m bloody angry today The BBC have pissed me off so so much that I’ve thrown headphones at dh and told him to use them. I’m bloody angry that freedom can be taken away again, education seems to optional, and feel for the businesses who could be ordered to close. And NS. Elimination??? What fucking planet is she on?

BamboozledandBefuddled · 30/06/2020 09:17

@Worldgonecrazy Try Duolingo - I'm doing their Italian course. I need to get my brain working again Hmm

Flowers and Cake to anyone who needs them. Probably too early to be offering Wine Going to crawl back into my corner and fret some more. Have a good day if you can!

Worldgonecrazy · 30/06/2020 09:18

I love the dementoring translation of ‘children have been impacted’ to ‘children are filthy disease ridden virus spreading vectors’

There is still no evidence of children spreading the virus, but we know they can catch it, Given the demographics of Leicester it is likely a large proportion of children in the affected areas are living in poor conditions and likely to have genetic/birth issues too.

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/06/2020 09:20

I'm half tempted to start a Food factories should be closed immediately thread just to watch people make excuses as to why they should stay at home with their non-educated children and still receive a Tesco delivery....

RobinHobb · 30/06/2020 09:20

@Jourdain11
Good luck
We are thinking of you

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 30/06/2020 09:23

I thought he was talking bollocks and immediately told DD1 that.

However on eve on me sending my first child, the
asthmatic one, into school for the first time in three months it's not what I wanted to be hearing.

Infections are really low here - I know that but still.

Dulingo is great, free and one of the few with Welsh on it.

RubberDinghyRapids · 30/06/2020 09:24

@Mascotte Positive news (albeit specific only to me, sorry!)

  1. UK based holiday booked for September.
  2. Local farm park open for pre-booked sessions. Have booked to take DD next week. For the first time ever I'm going to spend money in their gift shop Grin
  3. Day home today alone. I shall spend it ignoring the news, listening to podcasts and reorganising the house. Bliss.

WTAF?! This is getting beyond Dystopian now. Poor? Wear an ankle bracelet. Asian? Wear an ankle bracelet. Naice person? Collect £200 and go straight to Waitrose. Who the fuck do these keyboard warriors think they are, and are they as bravely outspoken IRL? Methinks not. I thought Katie Hopkins was one of a kind, obviously not.
Bollss · 30/06/2020 09:28

Morning all. Good luck @Jourdain11 hope it goes well and you don't feel too shitty this time Flowers

I am still seething. Properly fucking seething. I have never been more angry in my life. Someone needs to hold the government to account. They can't give us half an explanation and expect us to accept it. If they put my area in lockdown again I've already decided I'm not going to follow it. I'll do everything in my power to keep DS at nursery / school because there is no way in hell I will EVER isolate him again unless it directly benefits him.

He's got his doorstep visit this morning with his teacher so I'll have to be all lovely and positive when what I want to say is well there's no point because he'll probably never get to attend fucking school.

Ibake · 30/06/2020 09:29

Oh, sorry @Jourdain, too busy getting cross and forgot to wish you Bonne Chance for today xx

BlackberryViolet · 30/06/2020 09:32

It’s the snobbery and classist attitudes which piss me off the most. It seems to be an excuse to look down your nose at people. Queue outside Primark? Oh my god!!! Queue outside Selfridges? Not a peep.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/06/2020 09:32

mascotte I’m off to fill the tank for the first time in months. I will make this part of my arsenal for escaping The New Scotland and book a nice air bnb in Leicester and outsmart them all!

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 30/06/2020 09:32

Jourdain wishing you lots of luck. I hope it isn't too brutal and it does the job.

Did you see the WHO all over the media going 'THE WORST IS YET TO COME?' I would have said before all this that I had respect for them but they've been the worst dementors out there. Zero positivity or optimism from what I've seen, just doom-mongering left, right and centre. Actually 500k global deaths in 6 months from a pandemic is pretty mild, I'd say, even if we will see a rise from here. That's 500k in a world where many live in extremely overcrowded conditions and there is a decent amount of poverty still and in a world where people travel about a lot and many have shit hygiene.

torydeathdrug · 30/06/2020 09:33

@Jourdain11 best of luck Flowers

Dementors back to fine form. Loving every second - salivating ... army! Ankle tags! Poor people! Brown people! Sad faces!

How awful they are.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 30/06/2020 09:34

've already decided I'm not going to follow it. I'll do everything in my power to keep DS at nursery / school because there is no way in hell I will EVER isolate him again unless it directly benefits him.

I support anyone who feels that way and I can only say you won't be alone. For all the fearful people online saying they will never leave their houses again there are far more people who have made their sacrifice and won't be shut in again. We don't have the army or the will to enforce people staying in either, in all honesty.

Teateaandmoretea · 30/06/2020 09:34

Elimination??? What fucking planet is she on?

She’s on the planet where it is now some kind of weird global competition to see how low you can get covid cases.

The Dementors have started into how pandemics will be happening all the time now so we have to live like prisoners forever.

Well exactly 🤦🏻‍♀️

The way out of this is pretty bloody obvious to me. Open schools and businesses and we get on with our lives, like they are doing in Sweden.

Bollss · 30/06/2020 09:34

I'm at the point now where I've become devoid of empathy. I legitimately don't care if more people die of covid now. I have sympathy for them and their families but that's only what I would have for ANY death.

This is a completely disproportional response now. It's a fucking disgrace.

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 09:34

@RubberDinghyRapids oh, that all sounds good! I like to hear happy stuff from Scottish cell 😃 Enjoy a day of peace.

@Willitneverend I think your user name was prescient. Anxious or not, this is nuts now. The year is stretching ahead of me with nothing, just nothing.

@Jourdain11 good luck today.

Worldgonecrazy · 30/06/2020 09:35

@Jourdain11

Best wishes for today.
