Aaaaaand one more.
People asserting Greece don't want us and calling me an idiot when I say they are wrong.

I am greek, my family are greek, many live in greece....I think I have a better idea what is happening in greece than some arse who gets all their information from the guardian or Facebook

Littlebelina · 30/06/2020 08:30

@Jourdain11, hope it all goes as well as it can do today.

@DominaShantotto, hope you are ok today, looks like it will be fairly localised to Leicester city so you should be ok

Spudlet · 30/06/2020 08:44

Morning all. Feeling in need of a bastion of sanity today. The Leicester news has given me a serious wobble. My family aren’t in the affected area (mostly - I do have an aunt and uncle who will be) but it’s shown how fragile all this ‘easing’ really is. It doesn’t help that the weather appears to have rewound to March as well - it’s like Groundhog Day!

I had been making plans to meet with my DPs at a National Trust place roughly halfway between us, but even assuming we can book tickets, there seems to be no certainty that it will even happen. The future just feels like an amorphous grey cloud at the moment. DM has just restarted the C25K and I was hoping that by the time she finishes we might be able to go and stay, and go running together. But making any sort of plans just feels futile.

Sorry, that’s such a downer. I just can’t see how we get out of this mess. Sad

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/06/2020 08:46

I’m feeling the same today @Spudlet. Feel like it was ridiculous to book a cottage in Devon in August when our freedom is on such a knife edge.

I am actually angry.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/06/2020 08:46

“Malakas”. 😂 I shared a house with a Greek guy at uni and that word is the height of my Greek along with “mama” and “endaxi”.

jourdain sterilised fist-bumps to you lady. Hopefully you’ll be back with us soon.

I am so sorry for all of you in Leicester. Over-crowded bolthole available north of the wall. Bring ear plugs.

Nihiloxica · 30/06/2020 08:48

I just can’t see how we get out of this mess.

Me neither.

The people who screeched to have our rights removed in March will never give up.

They're already lining up new viruses in case their second, third, fourth waves don't prove potent enough.

Worldgonecrazy · 30/06/2020 08:53

I can’t wait to go to Greece. Don’t the dementors know that sunlight destroys viruses, that’s why we’re not knee deep in the buggers.

I’m determined to learn some Greek other than ‘thank you’ so if anyone can recommend an online course please do.

So sorry for anyone in Leicester. I can understand the balancing of racial sensitivity but it Sucks for everyone who isn’t at risk.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 08:54

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane
Malaka is hands down my favourite word.
It's so versatile 😁

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 30/06/2020 08:58

I can't wait to go to Greece either. It's a beautiful country with lovely warm people. I'm a huge fan. I will be going as soon as I can, I think. I don't feel scared of travelling and I don't feel it's morally wrong when the virus kills such a small proportion of people.

I am sorry people feel so low. This is very hard. I have made myself a really cheesy upbeat playlist on Spotify and I am finding sticking my headphones in for half an hour here and there and blasting it in my ears is helping my mood. The weather really doesn't help does it?

Orangeblossom78 · 30/06/2020 08:59

See Nicola is on form today Hmm

Nicola Sturgeon has refused to rule out quarantine for people arriving in Scotland from other parts of the UK and criticised the prime minister for tolerating “higher levels” of coronavirus infections across England.

At her daily briefing the first minister said that “we have to be on our guard against cases coming into Scotland from elsewhere”

May be good reason not to go visit dementory family there perhaps!

PickAChew · 30/06/2020 08:59

Hope it goes well for you, @Jourdain11

BlackberryViolet · 30/06/2020 09:00

@Jourdain11 best wishes for today, hope it goes as well as it can do Flowers

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/06/2020 09:00

Actually I am really fucking angry. Although my area isn’t shut down I obviously live very close by so have friends in the affected areas. I’ve already seen on my Facebook this morning distraught business owners who have suddenly been told they can’t reopen after weeks of preparation. They’ve put all their available resources into being able to open safely. Businesses not in the affected areas but on the perimeter have had to make the decision to delay reopening too as the situation is too precarious... it would be financially devastating for them to open then have to close again if restrictive measures are increased.
People who were planning to get away for a much needed break after months of this shit. People planning to see family properly for the first time in months. And wanksock and his cronies can just take it away in a poorly educated and poorly executed snap decision.
Wankers.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/06/2020 09:01

"She also demanded that Boris Johnson made clear his intention to eliminate coronavirus from the whole of the UK. Anything short of elimination risks a deadly second wave and a return to full lockdown, Ms Sturgeon said"

Interesting. Thought it was to flatten the curve but she is going for elimination, now.

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/06/2020 09:01

Sorry for the rant...

Best of luck today @Jourdain11. Thinking of you Flowers

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/06/2020 09:03

And NS can fuck off with her ‘elimination’ bollocks. That was never the goal. That’s not how we were sold this lockdown shit.

Jourdain11 · 30/06/2020 09:06

Apparently the R in Leicester is 1. It was 2.8 or something in Germany when they did the local lockdown!

AnxiousElephant77 · 30/06/2020 09:07

Why do any of go onto the school threads??

🤯

AnxiousElephant77 · 30/06/2020 09:07
Weedsnseeds1 · 30/06/2020 09:08

Good luck Jourdain.
They are loving it on that Leicester thread, aren't they?
Just seen someone suggest ankle tags to keep track of people leaving the area, but only those on benifits, as a condition of payment of said benifits!!! WTAF?

BarkandCheese · 30/06/2020 09:08

Good morning Flowers for everyone who’s struggling today.

I read an article about that new strain of flu on the BBC last night. After going on about how it had the potential to become a pandemic this was right at the end Current flu vaccines do not appear to protect against it, although they could be adapted to do so if needed. So basically it would be perfectly possible to create a vaccine for it right away if it started spreading.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/06/2020 09:09

If the Spanish flu was able to infect every single corner of the globe 100 years ago when travel was only for a few - how the fuck are we supposed to eliminate it in 2020?

I’m feeling like this will never end. Out council said (confirmed) yesterday schools back ft august - but really, where the fuck will we all be?

TheGreatWave · 30/06/2020 09:10

Don't worry about NS, she is too busy frothing about KS and BJ having push ups.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/06/2020 09:11

weeds I saw that... presumably the same train of thought that is horrified by the risk of brummie covid travelling to Bournemouth. Naice furloughed people lock their doors and stay home right!?

NannyPhlegm · 30/06/2020 09:12

Current flu vaccines do not appear to protect against it, although they could be adapted to do so if needed.

But.....but.....this is exactly why we have a fresh flu jab every year, because slightly mutated and therefore novel flu viruses emerge every year and the flu jab has to be adjusted slightly to combat it. When the adjustments are incorrect, you have a flu spike as in 2016!

This is nothing new, and it is repulsive that the BBC has decided to stoke fear by presenting it as such.
