@NannyPhlegm

Where exactly is the outbreak in Leicester? Is it centred in an area or factory? Sorry if I'm asking very obvious questions, I can't find the details online. I just find locking down the entire city beyond comprehension. It has to be posturing
It’s concentrated in the east of the city, an area which people of Asian heritage are the overwhelming majority. Some areas such as Belgrave are predominately Indian / Hindu communities and others such as Highfields & Evington are predominately occupied by very conservative & insular Pakistani Muslim communities. There are some very deprived areas in East Leicester as well as some more prosperous ones.

I've just been looking through my mp3s on the phone... 21 suitable songs so far and I've only made it through A & B on song titles.

I'd like to think my taste is broad and eclectic... I'm probably just not very discerning.
Highlights so far include Weird Al's Another One Rides the Bus, Alice Deejay's better off alone, Aerosmith's Walk this Way anf Adamski's Killer.

I'd just like to throw in Confusion will be my Epitaph. (I'm a big king crimson fan)

This reminds me of the clap for carers. We used to go out and join in as it was the only time we saw a lot of our neighbours ....anyway, one of them used to play music. One week DS asked if he could play his clarinet the following week. DH just said "not unless you can play 'I want to break free'" We just all looked at each other and laughed so hard!

@Drivingdownthe101 I'll bring the wine.

Something that occurred to me about this Leicester situation (hugs for anyone there) is if it's been going on a while why not do something sooner?

The LA I work for get a lot of stick and ain't got a pot to piss in but there are SLT briefings daily with the director of public health and clear triggers and plans in place for likely local lockdown scenarios.

This just seems like they have seen its getting worse and then crossing their fingers and hoping for the best. Then who pays the price?

SeaOtterFluff · 30/06/2020 07:01

@Jourdain11

My DC's school had an "outbreak" of chickenpox earlier in the year. No doubt it could have been very dangerous to all the hundreds of vulnerable children, teachers and their families (shingles). But it wasn't locked down because, you know, life.
I remember norovirus ripping through our primary school a few years ago, over half the students were off in DD's class at one point. The sensible thing would've been to shut for 48 hours, but nobody suggested it.

I really, really feel for the people of Leicester. If we need a riot to get something done, I'll be there.

DominaShantotto · 30/06/2020 07:08

Thank you to whoever posted the map. I have friends who will be locked down again but there’s a decent buffer with us- but of course everyone is just going to head off to the other cities to do shopping etc and they will come for us next. Make an example of us all.

Going to smile and get the kids to school and then fall apart

Jourdain11 · 30/06/2020 07:11

Quickly just to say hi and good morning - hope you're all doing okay.

I'm off for more hospital fun today, so may be absent for a while. Starting my new chemo regime (the first lot was to zap the leukaemia - one cycle was supposed to do it, but it took three Hmm - and the next four are to hopefully keep it away) and I don't know how awful it's going to be! But I'll be here in spirit!

AnxiousElephant77 · 30/06/2020 07:14

We've had an email saying there will be no wraparound provision for 'at least the autumn term'. I don't use it, but I know so many parents that rely on it. It's an utter disgrace.

countrygirl99 · 30/06/2020 07:19

seaotter there was a memorable Christmas concert when my 2 were at primary. I was on interval tea duty with the PTA but norovirus picked that day to suddenly hit. We ended up hauling off vomiting kids who had seemed fine when they arrived (and the vomit covered child in front of them) while the teachers re-arranged the kids to fill the empty spaces. By the end of the cut short concert about a 3rd of the kids had been removed and the hall reeked.

RubberDinghyRapids · 30/06/2020 07:27

 I'll be thinking of you today @Jourdain11 Thanks

Cattermole · 30/06/2020 07:33

@DominaShantotto maybe we should start a network of underground bunkers and a secret handshake for the ADs so we all have cover to run to? Thinking of you this morning.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/06/2020 07:56

Yes, and the secret handshake can be 'a handshake' according to DH. Smile

Littlebelina · 30/06/2020 08:03

Wanksocks peed me off last night with his "children have been particularly effected" comment with no figures, context to back this up. It's got all the close schools brigade back waving their flags coupled with the fact 5 schools in Leicester had to close (which doesn't seem many given Leicester has 10% of the UK's cases and seems to have been caused by staff mainly anyway). Wish politicians would really think about what they are going to say before they say it. Plus you've got newspapers speculating other areas might lockdown because one week they had 8 cases, the next week 13, numbers so small to start with it that you can't read anything in it!

Really crossing my fingers about wrap around care here next term, barely get to work before I need to come back but at least ds has a school place so should be grateful

Teateaandmoretea · 30/06/2020 08:04

And in the news this morning there is a new strain of flu. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

SeagoingSexpot · 30/06/2020 08:11

Good luck for today @Jourdain11

A dead cert for the playlist: Nothing Ever Happens by Del Amitri.

PinkFondantFancy · 30/06/2020 08:12

@Jourdain11 sending you love

@DominaShantotto deep breaths. I think it'll be ok, we'll help you write your letter to keep your key worker places for your kids. I'd like to think the school will be on your side.

Don't mind that.

The Dementors have started into how pandemics will be happening all the time now so we have to live like prisoners forever.

There will always be something to justify our incarceration. This was never about public health.

Dowser · 30/06/2020 08:15

I really can’t see how the authorities are going to keep a lid on a new lockdown
The worms are out of the can and they aren’t t going back in any time soon.

These holiday threads are pissing me off.
I know I shouldn't engage but I feel like someone out there needs to pop their head up with a different opinion or it becomes an echo chamber of doom.

Also I find the assertion that Greece is some kind of third world country insulting. Yes some islands are small with little infrastructure but there is infrastructure there. For example I have family on one island, tiny with no ICU beds however the next island has, they are well equipped and well staffed to take both islands (and another neighbouring two), because that's how it works. You dont have the facilities on every island but every island has the access to them.

Malakas.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 08:18

Also I have friends who will lose everything. I mean absolutely everything.

Have you any idea how many people lived in converted shipping containers on top of each other barely eating because the economy tanked. How many people, children included died unnecessarily. Poverty also kills but no one here gives much of a shit about that because you cant sneeze poverty onto someone.
