Traffic mad here, too. McD's has given markses its car park back but that means we're stuck in a queue to get out of the shopping centre.

peaceanddove · 18/06/2020 13:21

@TheCheapKnickersofDeath

We're tentatively thinking of booking a Judas cottage in August so thought I'd take a peek at the holiday cottage thread

What's the going rate for one of those? 30 pieces of silver and a lingering sense of guilt? Grin

Dowser · 18/06/2020 13:23

I don’t under how they THINK they can police this 5 mile fuckwittery nonsense either
Utter bollocking bastards

rookiemere · 18/06/2020 13:24

@SockYarn my family have all been laughing at me as I told them to switch off the location devices on our phones etc. in case the police know where we've been.

However friends of my parents drove 10 miles from Errol to Perth for a walk there and came back to a police fine in the early days so it does happen.

Me I think it's so she can bring in border control to stop people going across the border to England for their holidays.

NannyPhlegm · 18/06/2020 13:25

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks
This is only my personal opinion re face masks. I don't mind the idea of it, but only if it comes alongside eating of restrictions. So,
Social distancing of 2m, no face masks
Or
Put on face masks, and drop social distancing, and get back to normal life!

At the moment, this is an added restriction on top of all the others. Which is why it grates on me

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 18/06/2020 13:25

Big businesses are allowed to open while small microbusiness go to the wall because no one in government has actually given any thought to it - it's just a blanket "no".

I think the government not thinking about things is everywhere.

The summer child care thread had few posters saying the problem was it was because men in government have nannies for the kids or leave it for their wifes to sort out.

I knwo there's a lot going on but UK government seems to change it's mind depending on how much PR an issue gets.

torydeathdrug · 18/06/2020 13:25

A lot of masks are pretty useless even with perfect use. I’m actually interested in the psychology of mask wearing - I can see that it offers reassurance to some people, but that’s largely placebo. People use them so badly - the classic here is the chin or beard hammock but just as many people wear them covering their mouths only. I don’t understand why if masks are not mandatory people would go to the trouble of wearing one badly - but they do Confused

I have some cloth masks for the children for medical/public transport use and N95s (they don’t fit children) for dh & me ... if I’m forced to wear a mask I want one that offers me some protection!

Checking in anti dementors.

Please don’t shout too much at Council workers who are damned if they do and damned if they don’t when enforcing these stupid fucking rules. One of ours got embroiled in a row about a florist at the beginning of lockdown which ended up being mentioned in the House of Commons. Total overreaction.

Planning Committee tonight. On fucking Zoom. I will be reaching for the booze the second it finishes.

Nihiloxica · 18/06/2020 13:27

@peaceanddove

Judas cottage? I have no idea how that happened, I meant holiday cottage.
Grin

I thought you meant a cottage of deathly betrayal 😂

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 13:27

@Dowser

That’s awful Hester Are they now forcing you to close
We were already closed! But someone saw some activity the other day and reported us based on suspicion, and rather than looking into it properly, we have just received a threatening email.
thenightsky · 18/06/2020 13:28

@HesterShaw1 That's awful. No wonder you're fucking swearing! What line of business are you in?

Bollss · 18/06/2020 13:28

@HesterShaw1 what is it that you do?

Since the Marcus rashford extravaganza (well done that man!) I am of the opinion that the more press attention the better.

Is there any slebs who do / use / enjoy businesses like yours? Could you tweet them for support etc?

As an aside I wonder whether the answer to getting schools sorted is getting sleb mum's involved?

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/06/2020 13:30

In the WHO guidance for facemasks it says one of the reasons for recommending them is because it helps psychologically. Which is just weird.
Anyway, psychologically the thought of wearing one gives me panic attacks!
I also see no sense in the fact that when we had 100,000 new cases a day we were told wearing them wouldn’t help. Now we have around 3000 new cases a day, and we can’t actually go anywhere as everything is shut, and if we do go anywhere we have to stay 2m away from other people... they’re now useful. So scientifically the change in advice makes no sense, therefore is it a political decision?

I certainly will shout about it, though not at him obviously! It's not just a Council worker - it's the very well paid head of the whole council department, who is new in his position. Rather than a civil phone call to me to find out what was occurring, he simply believed the shit stirrer and sent me a threatening email.

It's my livelihood, and one which remains shut when the risk of being open is as near to zero as you can make it. Meanwhile everything else is starting to be allowed to open.

torydeathdrug · 18/06/2020 13:30

^ that’s what flipped me over to active Anti-Dementor ... those type of shits are loving this, finally their time has come 🤬

This is horrific! I am genuinely shocked.

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 13:31

Sorry Genie that would be really outing Blush. I'm not being precious but it really would.

I have just had a very famous person just start following me on Twitter though Grin

I'll stop ranting now. As you were, everyone...

bookworm14 · 18/06/2020 13:32

Checking in. I refuse to drive round the Arc de Triomphe, however. Hyde Park Corner is bad enough.

Bollss · 18/06/2020 13:33

Dowser · 18/06/2020 13:34

Dh must be bored
He’s cleaned the floors and the windows
I did offer to take him back to the caravan
But apparently we have duck for tea .

TheGreatWave · 18/06/2020 13:34

Now I don't even live in Scotland but even I know some places are more than 5 miles from the nearest "civilization" how does that work?

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 13:35

Is the 5 mile thing guidance or what?

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 13:36

My friend lives in Glasgow and won't be able to get out

LivinLaVidaLoki · 18/06/2020 13:36

Love the new thread title by the way, just placemarking for later as Ive a horrendous afternoon at work. Though this thread will probably have filled up by finishing time...……...

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 18/06/2020 13:37

There are so many face masks worn with nose out and constant fiddling.

I think short journeys on public transport where your standing or sitting for short communtes - it's not a bad idea.

We often do long journeys by train.

I don't think were going to be able to go on our holdiay as we in Wales so locked down - but mainly as we'd be easy to spot as we have to travle by train across the welsh border. It would be about three hours on the train - and usually we'd have option of eating drinking now it would be trying to stop mask fiddling.

When they were younger we lived else where and holiday journeys just train part were 6 hours - it get to get to our parents it's 4-5 hours.

Two of us are asthmatic and I don't know how long we'll be able to tolerate masks and while I know there are exceptions for medical conditions - people can be arseholes and I'm not sure brandishing our inhailors would be enough to avoid confrontations.
