I am going to go against the grain here and say I do really like Jacinda Adern Blush I think she's fabulous and I have a bit of a girl crush on her... I think she's done the best she could possibly have hoped for for NZ although I agree that comparisons with the UK aren't helpful and they're going to struggle to open up again.

New scientist was telling me a while ago that we'd dodge a few bullets virus wise prior to this - and as bad as covid 19 has been it could have been much worse.

Though if we were smart we'd keep the systems of track and trace and infection control in place for next new virus.

As the world is now there's more opportunities for cross species infections as humans encroach on new land and get closer to more wild animals, more industrial animal farming good breeding grounds for spread and enough old style living close to animals farming to get cross infection and much more domestic and international travel to spread it around.

Basiclly we need to get better at this.

theconversation.com/humans-are-to-blame-for-the-rise-in-dangerous-viral-infections-94747 This is from July 2018 but it talks about all the virus outbreaks that had already occurred

@rosettesforjill totally off topic but I loved those books 😁

HesterShaw1 · 20/06/2020 10:40

A new thread looms! What shall it be? Something about bike ride? Pub gardens? Bike riding IN pub gardens? Gordon Brown? Aubergines? All of them combined?

We've got a dementor at work, someone had put a hand sanitiser and patronising sign next to the biscuit tin... PLEASE SANITISE YOUR HANDS BEFORE TAKING A BISCUIT.
Hilarious how this stuff comes up now, when cases are lowest in months.

I rebelliously allowed several of my patients to remove their masks while in my room, one was struggling due to dementia, another was breathless with asthma and another just really doesn't like them and being in their mid nineties can do what the hell they like IMO. I kept mine on, as I'm protecting them, but assured them they didn't need to wear them for my benefit.

All the PPE is so OTT, apparently we have to wear face shields to take blood, none of us have been doing that, it's hard enough with gloves never mind trying to see through a piece of curved and cloudy plastic!

On an exciting note, we MAY be getting antibody tests soon. So far none of our 30 odd staff have had a positive test, 3 of us isolated for a week with potential symptoms and 2 of those tested negative with one inconclusive. One GP is sure she had it just before lockdown so no test at the time. Will be interesting to see antibody results.

@Jourdain11 hope you pee soon! Catheters aren't fun but if you get too full the relief will be briefly worth it. If they haven't already said, moving positions and walking around may help. Maybe a shower? If that's allowed!

I had a catheter yesterday because I couldn't pee at all. I didn't like it at all! I've been walking around and things, but it hasn't worked yet! And I've drunk quite a lot of water so it is not particularly comfortable... Grrr.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 10:57

Yes, odd that Belgium (Brussels) and UK (London) being central hubs have been hit much harder than NZ and Iceland isn't it?

peaceanddove · 20/06/2020 11:00

@Weedsnseeds1

PeaceandDove just working my way through this thread, so apologies if anyone else has said the same, but havd you ever heard of a Judas lamb/goat? You don't see them so much these days, but they are trained animals that live with a flock of sheep and are trained to lead the flick up the race at the slaughterhouse, to the stun box. The Judas is let through and thd rest follow in single file to their deaths. I probably have a macabre sense of humour, but I just imagined us lot coaxing people to their holiday cottage of doom, by leading the way...
Every day is a school day on MN!
BogRollBOGOF · 20/06/2020 11:04

@Teateaandmoretea

I hope the hand sanitiser stations stay, in fact I hope the lasting legacy of all is better hand hygiene across the board.

I hope the legacy is that public toilets all have both hot water and bloody soap

I hope the public toilets reopen... My digestive system finds 10 mile runs far too stimulating to go without.
NothingIsWrong · 20/06/2020 11:06

I pee behind bushes on long runs. I usually trail run so never been a problem so far... I did a 30km run back in February and managed to find a petrol station though, which was handy... knackered my knee shortly afterwards and am just building back up to 10km now 🤬

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 11:11

Just stepped away from a horrible post accusing people of making up MH issues when it seems they are not. People can be very quick to judge on here at times. I must try not to engage.

Gloriously random! That will confuse the anti-anti-dementor dementors Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 11:12

I thought I saw a woman with a she wee the other day in the park turns out is was the lead of a dog!

i did wonder

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 11:13

Maybe we should have a new name from 'anti dementors' not sure. If it is deemed offensive / upsetting. I don't think so but not sure any thoughts?

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 11:14

The Joy seekers love aubergines? Grin

HesterShaw1 · 20/06/2020 11:16

Do people really find being called "dementor" offensive? It's so manufactured, this outrage! Offence is mostly taken, not given after all...and it helps people find the threads.

But maybe AD should be used - after all the threads have acted as an effective antidepressant for lots of us 😬

HesterShaw1 · 20/06/2020 11:17

Oh Joy Seekers is lovely though. I like that. Good call

HeadSpin5 · 20/06/2020 11:18

Must step away from the school threads. Impossible to have even a remotely helpful discussion about possibilities without IF YOU THINK YOUR CHILD HAS ANY HOPE OF FT EDUCATION BEFORE XMAS 2023 THEN YOU ARE NOT JUST THICK BUT YOU WANY ALL TEACHERS TO DIE 😡

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 11:18

Sounds OK to me. I think there was one occasion MN would not add it to a title as they thought it might be, maybe that is what I was thinking of. And with 'that' thread.

HeadSpin5 · 20/06/2020 11:18

Sorry 😐 Just needed to remind myself to stay here!!

HesterShaw1 · 20/06/2020 11:18

Joy seekeers counting down the days..
