Morning all!

DS in reception is getting 4.5 school days a week and it seems to be normal school work. I suspect he's benefiting from a lot of the parents "not allowing their children to be guinea pigs"

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 18/06/2020 11:35

Does anyone remember that National Lampoons film where they (I think?) visit Europe and end up going round and round a roundabout?

Orangeblossom78 thank you for the shielding petition link - I have signed it as the more "publicity" shielding gets the better.

I'm not sure though how it would be "enforceable" or actually how reasonable it is to ask non shielding people to stay away from open air areas like parks at set times - I would much prefer to see a "shielding hour" in shops - as they have done for NHS/vulnerable/elderly. I can see that being useful. Of course everyone will be 😱 that shielding people shouldn't be anywhere near shops

On that note I shall say forgive me Dementors for I have sinned visited a shop myself. It was either that or commit actual literally real murder of two sets of neighbours, so I took one for the team to save their lives at the expense of mine Grin and boy was it worth every single second and pound I spent (far too much as we went to M & S as it was A Treat).

I feel as I have been reset. Shielding with two sets of noisy (auto correct changed that to moist HmmGrin) neighbours is just driving me insane. I literally couldn't take another minute of listening to barking dogs and DH found me weeping at the front gate Blush so we fucked off to the shops Grin and I think it may be a weekly thing so I have something to look forward to, I don't know if others feel the same but the weeks just stretch out with nothing good scheduled in and every day the same...I'm probably not helping anyone with that line of talk so I'll STFU now!

Let's all hope for better days ahead...

Cattermole · 18/06/2020 11:40

Ouch....anyone listen to More Or Less on radio 4?
I think we should invite some of them buggers to meet a few of the more egregious Dementors. It'd be like the Cats Of Kilkenny.

Spudlet · 18/06/2020 11:47

That summer childcare thread was going south in the first few posts - I have refrained from returning to it. Poor woman.

No new cases reported in my county for the last two days, all of three patients left in hospital with it, and no new cases in the neighbouring county yesterday either. And we were hit a bit harder than they were in the first instance. All good news, I hope.

I myself have been taking off and nuking my shopping from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 18/06/2020 11:47

Bonjour toute la monde.

*said in a West Country/ Del Boy mash-up.

KaronAVyrus · 18/06/2020 11:47

Great thread title
My nearest Greggs is opening today and my boys are beyond themselves with excitement. What have we been reduced to? 😂

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/06/2020 11:53

In going to Gregg's tomorrow after the school run to treat myself to a bacon role

Cattermole · 18/06/2020 11:56

Can the peeps off to Greggs get us a corned beef slice, please?
You can take the girl out of Lancashire but....
(Our nearest is Exeter!)

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 18/06/2020 11:57

bubblebillocks as I was catching up I was mentally thinking “parliament kids!” 😁

ChicCroissant · 18/06/2020 12:01

I've also been to Greggs this morning Grin I enjoyed my coffee and DD had a biscuit!

I've watched the 5 lanes of traffic roaring round the Arc, absolutely terrifying!

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 12:11

Quite fancy a Greggs myself!

Breaking news-

The Bank of England will pump an extra £100bn into the UK economy to help fight the coronavirus-induced downturn.

What does this even mean? are they printing money Confused

Pleasedontdothat · 18/06/2020 12:11

Checking in ... the roundabout reminiscences got me thinking about my first ever job when as a very new driver I frequently had to tackle Swindon’s magic roundabout in a work car - it was terrifying 😬

@jourdain I hope you’re starting to feel a bit better this morning

It’s chucking down this morning so I will not be going anywhere near any shops today .. all the spread out queuing bollocks gives me the rage at the best of times and there’s no way I’m queuing in the rain ...

Feeling bad as I had a row on the phone with my slightly dementory sister (teacher) - all I wanted was a bit of sympathy ....

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/06/2020 12:11

What does this even mean? are they printing money confused

Basically yes!

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 12:12

Traffic here is mad. On way to school (fast road out of the centre) nearly got knocked down by a sports car the other day. Ignoring the "People may step out' signs madly put at age of the fast road.

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 12:13

Morning all.

Had a visit from the boyf this morning before he started his shift.

So I'm in a good mood. Fnar fnar Grin

Sorry to hear you're feeling so shit jourdain. Fingers crossed you "just" burst a blood vessel with all that over enthusiastic vomiting. Have an entirely appropriate unmumsnetty hairstroke.

thenightsky · 18/06/2020 12:13

I'm here!

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 12:13

What does this even mean? are they printing money

oh printing money? That always goes so well Hmm

BamboozledandBefuddled · 18/06/2020 12:14

What does this even mean? are they printing money

They don't even have to do that now, they just add a few zeros to a figure on a computer.

DominaShantotto · 18/06/2020 12:15

Placemarking. Greggs still closed here. Bah.

My father in law once got lost on a caravan holiday and ended up having to drive, caravan in tow, kids in car bickering, around the Arc.

We've had a chat with DH's boss getting initial plans drawn up for how I can get back to uni in September if schools are still fucked up. He's got the go-ahead to work from home indefinitely from his boss, who is over in Germany (he returned there just before flights stopped) and is bloody horrified by how bad the situation seems to be with the UK fucking things up. He has also fully verified that the Germans queued for Ikea and Primark just as enthusiastically as the British did - just to thwart the "oh but everywhere in Europe did it so much better and would never queue for cheap knickers of DEATH" brigade.

Assuming I get to stay at uni since the assignment I got back that I did when lockdown had started was shittacularly done (was only 2% over the pass mark on that one)

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 12:19

Domina this happened to us! Exactly! Though it was a trailer tent not a caravan. Got the wrong junction off the Peripherique and ended up in the centre of bloody Paris. He was pale and shaking. I think even we three children were shocked into silence.

Oh the days before satnavs....

littlbrowndog · 18/06/2020 12:22

We are going to Greggs. Today. I can’t fucking wait 😉😉😂😂

TheGreatWave · 18/06/2020 12:23

Oh the days before satnavs....

To be fair the days after satnav aren't much better.

"No, Mrs Satnav, we cannot join the A1(M) by going through a field."

littlbrowndog · 18/06/2020 12:23

I just checked and ours is open. 💃💃💃💃🥂🥂🥂

BogRollBOGOF · 18/06/2020 12:24

I love the random title Grin

I've finally regained a bit of murderous spirit and have been for a run. Unfortunately I was murdered while dodging trees by a faster runner PANTING up past me concealed by the noisy swoshing of traffic through surface water. I did actually jump and yelp in surprise but having failed to literally SADLY DIE of shock we had a laugh which will probably kill off the Coronavirus that he has now inevitably contaminated me with. Being a semi serious runner, this now gives me an excuse to head to Decathlon for new kit as a runner always needs new kit and getting wet and a near death experience by mild surprise/ Corona PANTING is as good an excuse as any Wink

16 days off running is a long time for me in the absence of other disruptive factors, but I had just hit fatigue. My muscles missed the osteopath so all runs were tight and niggly for a few weeks, it was getting hot and sweaty which can be a slog, and as I'd spent 2 months trawling every public footpath within a 5 mile radius, the novelty had worn of and it wasn't the escape that it normally is because I haven't gone anywhere else so it was more of a pleasant prison yard, but a prison yard nonetheless. I kind of needed to retreat into myself and a week of wallowing last week to get the mojo back to limp on.

I do feel better for the run, soggy as it was, and even better for the post-run shower Grin

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 18/06/2020 12:27

I’ve been murdering people by saying I want DD to go back to school with no distancing. There are some sensible posters on that thread, happily.

It’s pouring here too. I just want something to look forward to, it’s our wedding anniversary this weekend and we’d normally go out for dinner. Sigh. Even when restaurants reopen, I don’t really want to go out in a mask and gloves and be treated like a filthy potential plague carrier: it’s not my idea of a relaxing evening out! I’ll do it if it comes to it, because we have some good local restaurants and I don’t want to see them go under, but it’s not an enticing thought.
