Casually browsing stupidly expensive houses on Rightmove when I found this...

So I was casually looking at houses I can't afford on Rightmove earlier and this came up.

Am I the only one who thinks the wording of this ad is bizarre (although rather funny!)

They always look nice from the outside and awful on the inside! Like basic hotel rooms! just all so lifeless and boring. Not that I wouldn't love a few million to buy one and decorate it how I wanted....

merryhouse · 17/06/2020 19:56

That French property just screams "we ran out of money"...

Either that or "this project destroyed our marriage" Grin

DishingOutDone · 17/06/2020 20:07

Love Ricky's house, the rest look like you are going to meet an axe murderer or a ghost or the ghost of an axe murderer and film made about it, on site.

rusticated quoins Are those stones that stand out on the edges of the building,,

Why, thank you very much. I must have something different then Grin.

It's located on one of the most sought after, least developed stretches of the Fal Estuary and looks onto Carrick Roads, which is expensive sailing country. A 2 bed EOT cottage (nicely decorated) is available in a lesser area for £750k. It will sell to someone with a lot of money, and will not appear on the market again for another 30 years. But I agree that the buildings need a lot of work to conservation standards, and the house is certain to be very dated. I reckon you need £2.5m to buy it, and at least another £500k on renovations. IF I wanted to move to deep Cornwall and had won the lottery, I would view it.

It’s on for nearly six.

Love this one.

TowelHoarder · 17/06/2020 20:50

Grade 2 listed, no pictures of the interior, POA, substantial funds required.

They should have put perfect for a dim witted lottery winner at the end of the ad!

I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole and I doubt anyone else would either!

XingMing · 17/06/2020 20:55

Nah... neither of those is close to really top quality sailing. An established right to a mooring is worth a mid-five-figure sum alone; otherwise you are looking at several years wait for a slot. The Cornish property market is polarised between rudimentary farmworker/fishermen's cottages and landowner's estates. And the fact that this one is a Tremayne property (the family name Lemon is all over the centre of Truro) suggests that it's an estate sale and they are happy to wait for a buyer who will be happy to find it and pay the asking price.

XingMing · 17/06/2020 20:57

Nearly six is... gulp... optimistic.

LuxLuxLux84 · 17/06/2020 21:01

It’s an amazing place. I’d buy it without seeing the interior If I had substantial funds.

Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chief's house is for sale. Nice spot.

I'm having a bit of a giggle at the estate agents name ... Lillicrap Chilcott
CurseryKinkajoo · 17/06/2020 21:34

@AlexTheLittleCat we bought our house from them and they gave us an umbrella. I giggle every time I use it which is a lot in sunny Cornwall

Maranello4 · 17/06/2020 22:37

Great thread! Place marking....

DishingOutDone · 17/06/2020 23:29

RW's house is lovely!

hedgehogger1 · 17/06/2020 23:31

That's a house you could be murdered in and no one would you find you til after your dogs ate you

MrFaceyRomford · 18/06/2020 00:03

Seems like a large farmhouse to me. Maybe Cornish gentlemen lived in smaller houses than they do where I come from.

BashStreetKid · 18/06/2020 09:12

I think this is the one for me - www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-67643138.html

That's amazing!

I love looking at the expensive houses on Rightmove. You don't get the crazy decor in the normal ones Grin.

BitOfFun · 18/06/2020 14:02

Oh Alex, I beg to differ- daily mail link. This house is probably less than a mile from where I live- me and my mum would call it Poodle Manor every time we walked past Grin.

DishingOutDone · 18/06/2020 15:36
