Casually browsing stupidly expensive houses on Rightmove when I found this...

ItsMischerWavy · 17/06/2020 13:44

So I was casually looking at houses I can't afford on Rightmove earlier and this came up.

Am I the only one who thinks the wording of this ad is bizarre (although rather funny!)

@isitmethough

Added June 2016 - wonder why no one has bought it in 4 years?! :-/
now that made me giggle

Have not RTFT but, and I’m sure it’s been covered, a gentleman’s residence with no internal pictures means it a filthy shit tip.

IntheHeartofTransylvania · 17/06/2020 18:21

@Ellmau that throws some light on the wording – interesting!

PurBal · 17/06/2020 18:22

If I had the time I'd be writing a letter of complaint. But I don't.

Zilla1 · 17/06/2020 18:22

The OP's Mylor property's price seems to be between £4.5m - £5.75m.

No floor plans or interior photographs would suit some affluent purchasers concerned about the security implications of allowing a record of the interior to be available for infiltrators.

UntamedWisteria · 17/06/2020 18:25

"Gentleman's residence" isn't a euphemism. It's a well-understood term in certain circles.

In that location, with those views and 12 acres alongside, it will be £several million.

Probably get a floorpan and interior pics if you apply directly to the EA.

KaleJuicer · 17/06/2020 18:27

My friend and her DH seriously considered buying this property but pulled out when they got the surveyor's report. I think flooding/subsidence was an issue - and the vendor wouldn't budge on price.

monkeyonthetable · 17/06/2020 18:36

I don't get why it's special. It only has 4 beds and is in the arse end of nowhere. You can buy gorgeous properties very similar to that in other arse ends of nowhere for well under a million.

Permanantlypuzzled · 17/06/2020 18:40

If you need to ask the price you can’t afford it.

namechangenumber204 · 17/06/2020 18:48

Creek?? I had to check that it was in the UK, I've never heard the word creek used to describe streams/becks/rhynes in the UK.

@LilianBland LOL!!

Bluntness100 · 17/06/2020 18:54

I think it’s because it’s n twelve acres, so hugely private, and has spectacular views across the harbour, with its own docking etc. Looking at the history it’s come down the Male line from lower nobility so would indeed probably have been a gentleman’s residence ( very wealthy didn’t work ) .

The price will reflect its condition, as said I disagree with the others, I don’t think this is a trashed shit tip, I think this is very likely the exact opposite and that’s why it’s in the five six million bracket.

twinnywinny14 · 17/06/2020 19:00

I’ve put into right move my town and listed from highest- the most expensive is £1.7m but nothing like these!

Diversion · 17/06/2020 19:00

Probably written by the "gentleman" himself who felt that estate agents couldnt possibly describe his residence appropriately. As for the substantial funds required, probably doesnt want enquiries from lowly peasants and no internal photos in case they show the family silver. Either that or as someone else said, it''s a complete tip.

Ravenesque · 17/06/2020 19:17

Substantial funds to buy it and more substantial ones to rescue it from the shithole it's undoubtedly become given now interior picks.

justasking111 · 17/06/2020 19:19

Friends, builders got in a pickle with a block of apartments they built, bank insisted they put their home on the market. They played a blinder by using Jackson Stops who are known to be awful EA in some areas. Five years down the road their home is still not sold Grin

When you click on streetview you can inside one roomConfused

BitOfFun · 17/06/2020 19:25

I love the description on the Listed Buildings page:

Farmhouse. Circa late Cl.8 to early C19. Slatestone rubble walls, originally stuccoed to front (south) and west side cement rendered to front with copies of rusticated quoins in 1985. Hipped dry Delabole slate roofs with wide eaves with modillion brackets to front

I don't know what much of that means, to be honest, but I do feel like I have rusticated quoins most mornings these days.

viques · 17/06/2020 19:25

I found out the other day that if you google "rightmove most viewed" you get a lovely selection of property porn to peruse at your leisure.

What I want to know is why do people with those mega mansions always have such appalling taste in furniture and decor, they always look as though poor Kelly Hoppen has inadvertently taken LSD and lost all her inhibitions..

They are always immaculately clean though, sighs and looks around own tasteful but mildly grubby home........

BashStreetKid · 17/06/2020 19:25

I think the requirement for substantial funds relates to the fortune you are going to have to spend to make it remotely habitable. When they show you no interior pictures it's a sure sign that the house is in a dreadful condition. I don't think I've ever come across an estate agent who was shy of producing at least some internal photos for luxury pads in the several million pounds bracket.

BashStreetKid · 17/06/2020 19:26

Really? I've come across a few. At one point I worked somewhere with a Creek Avenue address, so-called because the road was built where there had once been a creek leading to a nearby river.
weepingwillow22 · 17/06/2020 19:30

It appears there are quite a few gentlemen's residences on rightmove. This one is a bit more affordable....

Great thread OP. Placemarking to see if any other property gems pop up :-)

Ooh, Ricky Wilson's pad has got his famous waistcoat on display...I wonder if that counts as fixtures and fittings? Grin

Lol. They don’t need a gentleman, they need an absolute mug to buy that. Preferably one whose hobby is chucking vast sums of money into a pit. Good luck with that!
