This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

@Orangeblossom78

From the 'out in all weathers' thread

"it's perfectly possible to have a lovely day outside in almost any weather providing your have the right gear and are healthy and well"

Right tell that to supermarket shoppers

It is! But you know, when you’re walking up a mountain or running in the woods or something. Circumstances in which all over goretex or athletic wear is acceptable. And when you can take a flask of tea and a she-wee (I regret nothing) and keep moving if it’s cold.

Not queuing up outside Tesco... I’m not putting my full Lake District in October gear on to buy four pints of milk and a loaf of bread!

Dowser · 17/06/2020 19:04

Don’t know if I managed to post a pic of Northallerton high st with market
It was just glorious
Lots of lovely, friendly people
The staff in Holland and Barrett were lovely and so were the ones In Boyes
I spent a shed load of money, a one woman’s operation to refloat the economy.
Just about to have dinner at the caravan before the long haul home.

justasking111 · 17/06/2020 19:05

Ooh might have started something here. Grand child offered 1 hour a week until end of term reception. 3 hours a week for years 1 and 6. Nothing after 12.30 pm. 300 plus children normally. Friend is a governor I mentioned this to her today, she said the school have not contacted the governors. And it was a fact that the number of key workers children amounted to 9. Yep 9

Dowser · 17/06/2020 19:07

Oops

Anti dementors are going to hit the shops. Who wants to come?
bakingcupcakes · 17/06/2020 19:16

No mention of masks at DS's school. Thank fuck. After our brief masked trip into the hospital I never want him wearing one again.

@Jourdain11 Hope you're feeling better soon.

I've booked a holiday in the uk this afternoon so I'm feeling quite cheerful. It's not until August in the hope more stuff might be open. The hotel was very cheap so I'm prepared to take the hit if we're struck down with sickness and have to cancel. Hopefully we'll be ok.

We also have an awesome thunder storm going on with heavy rain. Not sure who mentioned it up thread. I quite like this hot unpredictable weather whilst cocooned in my house and garden.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/06/2020 19:30

The other reception teacher (not DD’s) apparently wore a mask on Monday and Tuesday but not today... imagine he found it uncomfortable and impractical when dealing with 4 and 5 year olds for 6 hours!

SummerHouse · 17/06/2020 19:31

4000 PPE aprons have been delivered... for a school of 65.

I would like to make a sculpture from these. I would call it "4000 dementors."

HesterShaw1 · 17/06/2020 19:37

Jourdain that sounds bloody rotten. Hope you feel better soon 💐

Went out on the water today. Obviously the heavens opened immediately 🙄

My outdoor gear of choice is Paramo, being a bit of a tree hugger. Really performs well if you keep on top of the nikwaxing.

NothingIsWrong · 17/06/2020 19:46

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane surely that's not their plan for September? This is to get more children back now? I just got chills down my spine that this was the September plan...

@Jourdain11 hope you are feeling better soon, sounds grim.

I am have a wobble right now, I'm ploughing on as work is insane. Kids in school tomorrow and Friday which will help. Just what IS THE FUCKING POINT of anything?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 17/06/2020 19:47

4,000 PPE aprons?!??? Wtf?!

No masks or other gubbins at dd's school, happily. They had a half day today (well, a bit less than half, really) and this afternoon one of dd's friends from her bubble came and played in the garden. The sun shone and dd's friend got to play on a swing for the first time in 12weeks. Brill.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/06/2020 19:49

@Jourdain11 I hope you’re feeling better soon, keep in touch with us murderers.

Despite the fact that our school are pulling out all the stops to get every child back in before the summer despite the governments shitty guidelines, and despite it being the only school in the area to be opening up to more than yr R, 1 and 6 (most aren’t even doing that), parents are still kicking off about it.

Ibake · 17/06/2020 19:51

And don't even get me started on all this PPE singlehandedly undoing all the good not being allowed to fly anywhere has done re climate change.

Sorry you're feeling rough @jourdain, hope tomorrow is a better day xx

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 17/06/2020 19:51

What are they kicking off about, driving?

AgentCooper · 17/06/2020 19:52

@Jourdain11 hope you’re doing ok Flowers

Re: Nicola dropping to 1.5m just to be different - she is absolutely going to do this Grin God, bring on the 1m.

I mentioned on another thread that they’re starting filming River Shitty again in August. Shite Scottish soaps before kids getting back to school. Of course.

CruCru · 17/06/2020 19:54

Okay, this is interesting. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has written an open letter urging Boris to open the schools as vulnerable children are suffering. It came out in the Times today.

I won't copy and paste it all here but it is worth a read.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/06/2020 19:57

They think that in the meantime (before they can physically be accommodated in school) all the lessons being given to the kids in school at the moment should be live streamed to everyone at home as it’s not fair that some children are getting face to face teaching and others aren’t.
Bearing in mind that reception and year 1 are having lessons outside as much as possible (and how could you stream a reception lesson anyway?), and year 6’s lessons wouldn’t be particularly useful to anyone not in year 6... plus they’ll all be back in a week or two anyway.
I get that it’s frustrating, but they genuinely are doing their very best to accommodate everyone.
Interestingly, the dad shouting the loudest has a daughter in reception who could have gone back anyway but they’ve chosen not to send her, and also has absolutely no interest in his children’s education in ‘normal’ times (I know his wife well and she says he is completely disengaged from child rearing... he’s the ‘provider’).

Dowser · 17/06/2020 19:57

Oh jourdain vomiting is just the bloody pits.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
When I rule the world no nice people will get anything nasty .
Trust me on this.
You’re in my team 👍

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 17/06/2020 20:02

Nothingiswrong - you’re right. It’s not the September plan, it’s the Scottish august plan.

As for the 4000 aprons. I can only assume one bright spark in procurement ordered x amount and divided them equally amongst schools in Scotland without taking into account size.

Cattermole · 17/06/2020 20:03

Big hugs @Jourdain11, not even socially distanced ones cos that is how we roll.
Hope you are feeling better soon. It sounds rubbish.

NothingIsWrong · 17/06/2020 20:06

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane OMG this has to stop. Our poor children.

Cattermole · 17/06/2020 20:06

Oooh question for you @Dowser! Boyes the shop (which IMO has gone proper downhill since they reduced the haberdashery departments) - is it Boyes or Boyes-es?
As in Tesco/Tesco's....

MaudesMum · 17/06/2020 20:08

Take care @Jourdain11! In an effort to feel more positive about the future, I've just asked a friend if they'll come to Rome with me in mid-October [I'd booked to go there in April, and re-booked the flights as far ahead as was allowed. Little did I think at the time of re-booking that an October holiday wouldn't be entirely fine].

NothingIsWrong · 17/06/2020 20:09

I grew up in a city with Boyes and we always said Boy-ses

fartingsparkles · 17/06/2020 20:09

Nice to see some fellow 77ers!

@trapped great news on the interview, and fingers crossed.

@driving your HT is fab! I have assumed dc1 won't be back til sept (yr4). They would break up a month today. Schools are hamstrung by the 2m.

@Milesa about Bojo's balls (shudder brain bleach needed) I think Cummings has them in a bag somewhere - possibly near Barnard Castle.

As much as I like social media, I think the positive is the same the negative - its given everyone a platform to voice their opinions. Obviously I don't want to prevent discourse, knowledge sharing and conversation, and have no worries about people disagreeing with my pov. But those who simply shout loudest, and refuse to engage with any opinions other than those agreeing with their own, frustrate me hugely.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 17/06/2020 20:10

Name changed as I'd had the old one for years (Gammeldragz).

Proper anti-dementoring today. After moaning the other day that I refuse to go shopping before my DCs are allowed back to school, I got over myself and dragged the whole household (5) into town (very small town!).
DD(10) asked what we were going to do and whether it was allowed. I said we are going to walk around and if shops are open we are going to go in them! We went in the Original Factory Shop, got DH some slippers and DS1 a t shirt and hoodie (no kids stuff in ours so nothing for the younger ones). No queue, 10 allowed in at once and one person/family per aisle. Hand sanitiser on the way in but nothing crazy otherwise. Staff wearing masks though and the poor lady was moaning her glasses were steaming up.

Got some chips, lovely chat with the kebab shop owner, sat and ate chips on the green. DCs were happy as it got them out of an afternoon of homework and DH has been mega depressed the last few weeks (bipolar II, lots of depression!) so he needed to get out of the house.

@Jourdain11 sorry to hear you're feeling rough again Flowers

Wine for anyone who needs it. We'd be fine if it weren't for DH and DS1's mental health issues. 6 weeks to go before CAMHS therapy finally starts (assessed back in January!) and I'm really hoping it's F2F as DS1 not keen on video chat! I've ordered him some fancy supplements for mood boosting so hoping those take the edge off as he's currently feeling super low (suicidal but without a plan so apparently that's OK and not needing urgent help). At least at school he got a counselling session every week and was kept busy enough to keep his mind off it a bit.

Sorry, that got really long!
