This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

(Sorry about the feeble title)

Just joining new thread so I don't lose you.

ISaySteadyOn · 16/06/2020 11:08

I am off to murder people in search of new crime fiction.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with children's envy over siblings going back to school when they can't? DD2 is really sad that DS can go back and she can't. She doesn't want him not to go, she just wants to go too.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/06/2020 11:08

Even Germany? I trust Germany on this one, personally!

In general though I am reserving judgment re numbers etc.

MinesaPinot · 16/06/2020 11:09

Checking in! Have to go and look at the end of the old thread now to see what I missed whilst doing my old Rosemary Conley exercise DVD earlier.

pollyhemlock · 16/06/2020 11:11

Checking in.

Allflightscancelled · 16/06/2020 11:12

We are definitely hyper reporting in a bit to keep everyone too scared to complain/flout.

Worldgonecrazy · 16/06/2020 11:13

Dementor at work keeps going on about second wave and Spanish flu. She had that slightly confused look of someone parroting words with one side of brain whilst her intelligent side of brain is trying to kick in ...

SeagoingSexpot · 16/06/2020 11:16

What ho! It is I, the flatulent, spirit-ridden ruminator, name changing as I do when I find one I like better.

Just murderingly visited my local independent card and gift shop. DC positively skipped off to school today on day 2. Still planning to hit Westfield Thursday.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/06/2020 11:17

I'd be more inclined to trust German efficiency.

@NannyPhlegm

Happy birthday Cru
Thank you!
Spudlet · 16/06/2020 11:19

Glad you got out @Orangeblossom78 - perhaps M&S is the new Hotel California! Or maybe it’s a new way to try and up their sales - you aren’t shown the out arrows until you’ve bought something!

Orangeblossom78 · 16/06/2020 11:19

I read that Holland was not counting quite a few elderly deaths as not testing that much - family there also say only testing severe cases like we used to.

rosettesforjill · 16/06/2020 11:20

@countrygirl99 thanks, no external ATM locally but DH has realised he can actually pay them in to a different account by taking a photo 🤷🏼‍♀️

Orangeblossom78 · 16/06/2020 11:20

I never used to like M&S previously to be honest

Shodan · 16/06/2020 11:24

@rosettesforjill My ds1 showed me how to do that a few weeks ago. On my phone! I can pay cheques in on my phone!!! I was so excited.

Now, every time my elderly mother gives me a cheque for her shopping ("so there's a record" ) I can suavely pay it in on my phone.

Game changer, I tell ya Grin

Would have murdered a couple more people as well by paying in some cheques but my bank are kindly "supporting their customers" by opening for approximately five minutes every third day.

I need to pay cash in (had a pre "oh my there will be no cash" wobble so withdrew loads and MIL has been giving us cash for any shopping, but I am not using it.) Open something like 10-3 M-F. Really helpful.

magictorch · 16/06/2020 11:28

Hello! Delurking after following the last couple of threads and the bonkers shopping one yesterday.

I murdered a few people in the Midlands last week and yesterday by letting my son play with his friends who we happened upon while on our boring Boris walk. It felt good!

Almost as good as finding fellow sane people on here.

Laniakea · 16/06/2020 11:29

France added in a bunch of care home deaths then decided to stop reporting mainly elderly deaths where it was difficult to decide the cause of death - those would certainly be reported as covid in the UK.

It will take a very long time for Italy to produce anywhere near comprehensive numbers. Spain are just lying. Russia throws people out of windows if they draw attention to their nonsense numbers.

All the comparisons are pointless - our numbers are really bad because of strategic decisions (PHE failing of testing that let it get out of control, the decision to empty hospitals onto care homes, terrible infection control (PPE, training & bad practice etc)) and circumstance (we had multiple points of entry (1300 separate seeding events) in globally interconnected country with an old, sick & obese population and already under resourced health service).

Lockdown is not curing any of that & causing far more widespread and long lasting suffering. And it is splitting the population into camps - the terrified, the Stasi wankers & the allegedly psychopathic - and is proving how stupid and badly educated we are. The last thing we need is children out of education for months on end!

I am really fucked off with it all today.

NothingIsWrong · 16/06/2020 11:30

Shiny new thread! Am currently enjoying the one about Covid in NZ...

BarkandCheese · 16/06/2020 11:36

@BogRollBOGOF

My conspiracy theory about figure is that many countries are under reporting either through lack of systems/ infrastructure or like Spain to make themselves look less disastrous, or in our case, hyper reporting to justify social control measures and keep the population terrified compliant.

I'm not convinced that the UK stats are significantly out of line with other European countries.

I agree with this. Forever more we’re going to be hearing about how we had the worst death toll in Europe or the world, and I just don’t think that’s true. We’ve over counted where others have under counted for a variety of reasons. According to DH Russia only count a death as covid if there’s no underlying conditions (although I feel compelled to add “citation needed” here it sounds plausible).
glotterbug · 16/06/2020 11:36

Morning, checking in. Still waiting to hear from dds school, not a sausage since wales announced opening 29th June. Off for some frivolous frisbee and a picnic with a friend and dds, unfortunately no children for dds to play with, seems I'm too relaxed!

sunlightflower · 16/06/2020 11:36

I've been out to the high street today and it was really nice. Lots of places open, everyone being sensible but not ridiculous. Overheard a couple of people saying how great it was that things are starting to go back to normal.

Also a few more children have returned to my daughter's nursery class, since those who started a couple of weeks back are all still alive and kicking, despite their evil parents signing up them up to be guinea pigs in a cruel government experiment.

I think the tide might be turning...?

DominaShantotto · 16/06/2020 11:38

Still here - just about.

Orangeblossom78 · 16/06/2020 11:38

Why has the NZ post trying to sell a house? Confused is it a sneaky stealth post?

Nihiloxica · 16/06/2020 11:39

Totally agree @Laniakea

Well said.

Happy birthday, Cru 🍾🥂
