This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

Yes I'm watching too Bark this seems different in tone. Still lots of "when it's safe" with no explanation of what that is, but at least talking about moving forwards

BarkandCheese · 17/06/2020 17:17

I said this before on one of the early threads so forgive me if you’ve seen it before. Right back when Italy were locked down and we weren’t DH was talking to one of his Italian colleges. This bloke told him that the lockdown wasn’t being properly observed because “Italian people don’t like following rules”.

SomewhereEast · 17/06/2020 17:18

Thats exciting @Shuckle! Hope all goes well for you. Mine are in school now but I volunteered with a baby & toddler group pre-lockdown and was thinking recently about how potentially crappy it is for all the new mothers. I would've gone slightly insane without coffeeshop trips & groups & going round to friends

PatriciaHolm · 17/06/2020 17:21

@BarkandCheese

Hey up, Daily Sadly Death Show have said getting live entertainment back is now being discussed.
From the Guardian- "Dowden says he has been looking hard at how live arts venues can start operating again. He says the taskforce he set up has made a lot of progress. But now the taskforce is going to take evidence from experts on what might be done, he says."

NOW? now they are taking advice from experts? Does he really realised he's just implied they've not being talking to anyone who knows about the sector before now???!

Orangeblossom78 · 17/06/2020 17:21

In the park here it's mainly the Europeans having big BBQs cuddling each other etc to be honest.

BarkandCheese · 17/06/2020 17:21

Cameron Macintosh is on record as saying he doesn’t think his shows will reopen until next summer. Which on the face of it sounds super dementorish, but it’s generally reckoned he’s actually trying to force the government’s hand because he know how much the big musicals contribute to the London tourism economy.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/06/2020 17:21

Heartwarming story here... mentioned before that our headmistress is fab and wants all children back in before the summer holidays. Year 5 and year 2 are back on Monday but that uses all our available rooms.
So she’s borrowed a huge marquee for the field which is being split into two ‘rooms’, and is personally purchasing out of her own pocket (at a cost of £900), toilet facilities for it Smile

AnxiousElephant77 · 17/06/2020 17:23

I'm a bit upset that our Jason Donovan concert has been postponed to be honest Grin

SomewhereEast · 17/06/2020 17:23

I've read the Guardian for decades & have just given up over Coronavirus....have even started paying to read the Torygraph Blush

AnxiousElephant77 · 17/06/2020 17:23

@Drivingdownthe101 That's fantastic news!

Wow! That’s fantastic! A million miles from all the sorry (not sorry) it’s not possible attitudes so many schools seem to have.
SomewhereEast · 17/06/2020 17:28

@Drivingdownthe101 Thats brilliant! Our HT likewise very anxious to get going again. DS2 is Reception and we've just heard that his class will be in four days a week from Monday (had been two days). She's generally pretty unflappable though & actually likes children, so I'm not surprised. Several primary schools in our town have just refused to open altogether so we're pretty lucky

Willitneverend · 17/06/2020 17:28

Does anyone else always feel worse before big FM announcements? I've been bouncing off the walls in fury over the schools debacle here which doesn't help. I should be happy about the prospect of beer gardens and play parks (which have reappeared in the news after the big parental backlash).

But it just feels so soul destroying that tomorrow we're all meant to tune in for another installment of what we are and aren't allowed to do, and although it will get better it will still inevitably mean another massive dose of authoritarianism and finger wagging about how if we are bad it will be taken away from us. I just fucking hate this.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/06/2020 17:30

We’re going to offer a donation... considering all the usual discos/PTA events etc haven’t gone ahead this term we’ve saved a fortune on that sort of thing!

Willitneverend · 17/06/2020 17:33

It doesn't help that by this point we'd be able to book somewhere for the weekend but that is also apparently unthinkable.

Yup. I’ve now got a permanent knot in the stomach. I can’t believe that one person has so much control over our lives. She is incredibly authoritarian and she is loving her “Me, Myself and I” show. She can just sort the school debacle out. It’s outrageous that she thought part-time learning was in anyway acceptable, especially after no school for 5 months. But we have to tune in tomorrow to find out which parts of our life she will graciously allow us to return to. 😤
Cattermole · 17/06/2020 17:39

Here - does anybody know how the Daily (Sadly) Death Show is jumping from 79 in a hospital setting over a timeframe of several weeks, to 180-odd? Adding in let's say 30 from Scotland, Wales and NI, is that another 80 in care home settings and outside hospitals yesterday?

rookiemere · 17/06/2020 17:40

Willitneverend yes I'm very nervous about the Scottish announcement yesterday. From reading phase 2 there should be some real improvements but knowing her most of them will be postponed to when it's safe enough Confused

Teateaandmoretea · 17/06/2020 17:42

@cattermole I think they are doing lots of tests in care homes. So probably anyone who lives in a care home, has tested positive and dies within a certain timeframe is being counted as a covid death.

KaronAVyrus · 17/06/2020 17:42

Anyway, the teenagers round here have moved on to phase 4 anyway. They’re having nightly parties on Arthur’s Seat and having a blast. Good on ‘em.

Teateaandmoretea · 17/06/2020 17:44

Whereas England is still on level 4 alert, the same as the peak. Fucking ridiculous

BogRollBOGOF · 17/06/2020 17:48

This anti-dementor is wanting to hit the shops to buy food, but the sky is currently doing a good dementor impression. Lots of rumbling, chucking water around and thinking its a bright spark Grin

I decided to take the DC out on their scooters (well, trike for the toddler) about 3 mins before the heavens opened.
Orangeblossom78 · 17/06/2020 17:51

I think Nicola reckons Boris will drop the 2m to 1m and then she can follow and blame him for the fallout perhaps?

Orangeblossom78 · 17/06/2020 17:52

Big thunderstorm here. Quite exciting. Something happening!
