This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

There’s been a really sneery class snobbery thing going on with a lot of our local dementors

That's at the core of most Dementoring.

BarkandCheese · 16/06/2020 13:15

I think Greggs were planning on opening a couple of weeks ago but then backed down because of fears about queues. I guess with so many other places open now they can’t afford not to.

There’s absolutely a class thing going on with dementors. The biggest fuss by far have been over McDonald’s, Ikea and Primark reopening.

Some absolute top class dementoring on Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 today. ANYBODY CAN SPREAD THE VIRUS and if you stand next to somebody YOU COULD END UP SPREADING IT TO HUNDREDS OF OTHERS

Smitemedamnsmaug · 16/06/2020 13:18

The Dementors love a spot of barely concealed sneery virtue signalling. Our local ones say things such as... I know we are SO lucky wfh and having such a large house and garden, we've barely noticed the crisis but we want lockdown to continue, not for us, but all the poor, fat people in Tower blocks who WILL DIE IF GREGGS OPENS!!

Yes, the queues outside Selfridges don’t get a mention. Also there’s very much an attitude that those struggling with lockdown are those who normally do tacky, classless things with their time such as go to cinemas or shudder pubs. Those people should just learn to get their pleasure from nature and meditation.

Checking in once again to the sanest place on the internet.

I told my boss some of us were going in tomorrow for the day, despite official reopening being a few weeks off, and he basically told me to get on with it. I expected a bit more caution but I get the feeling he is fed up with WFH too.

HesterShaw1 · 16/06/2020 13:19

Just the two murders here, despite my carefree murdering bike rides.

Must try harder.

Supermarketworker06 · 16/06/2020 13:20

@TheGreatWave

Would have murdered a couple more people as well by paying in some cheques but my bank are kindly "supporting their customers" by opening for approximately five minutes every third day.

I need to pay cash in (had a pre "oh my there will be no cash" wobble so withdrew loads and MIL has been giving us cash for any shopping, but I am not using it.) Open something like 10-3 M-F. Really helpful.

Travelled miles on Saturday to buy a new car (spreading germs to another county), and paid in cash! Germ filled, grotty cash! We didn't necessarily need a new car but bollocks, we wanted one. (Mercedes C class, if you're interested) We've been shopping for a lot of elderly people who pay in cash, probably their cash is full of germs as they've been sat inside for months licking it. We paid for the car with some of that. I went to the Factory shop and bought some unnecessary wool yesterday as I'd run out. And I took my friend shopping today as she can't drive. Bollocks to it.
SomewhereEast · 16/06/2020 13:20

Oh yes the snobbery! I'm on Twitter (honestly no idea why) and the differing reactions to Waterstones reopening & Primark reopening were quite hilarious, even though all the Primark queues in the attached photos were perfectly socially distanced blah blah

HesterShaw1 · 16/06/2020 13:21

We don't have Gregg's in Cornwall but maybe Warren's is the equivalent? I'll pop down for a pasty I don't even like pasties

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 13:22

Well it is worthy to buy books. A quaint little independent bookshop would be preferable of course, but Waterstones is acceptable. Primark? Queueing for £1 thongs (because apparently that’s all they sell Hmm)? So lower class.

Nihiloxica · 16/06/2020 13:22

It's not only acceptable, but a moral virtue to stay at home and have your every need catered to by delivery and fulfilment staff, especially if you order from (expensive) independent shops.

If your children gave grown out of their clothes and you need a trip to Primark for buy t-shirts you are filthy scum.

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 13:23

Even better if it’s a quaint independent bookshop in East Dulwich.

Nihiloxica · 16/06/2020 13:23

GrinGrinGrin

Roaring! Absolutely spot on.

rosettesforjill · 16/06/2020 13:23

We've had 14 in our local area which seems to be one of the higher totals (though our whole borough has had pretty dire figures overall). I'd be interested to know if these were largely based in the huge care home in the town centre.

NewAndImprovedNorks · 16/06/2020 13:23

I am just back from a killing spree in the garden centre.

It was so emotional after all these months of not going to a single other building that wasn’t my house. I was RIDICULOUSLY excited, bought loads of gorgeous plants, chatted like a loon to the lovely cashier (from a very safe distance) and was almost brought to tears by the sheer normality of it.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 16/06/2020 13:24

Those people should just learn to get their pleasure from nature and meditation.

But that's what pubs are for! It's called 'Sitting in the beer garden and thinking deep thoughts while drinking alcohol' Grin

Been reading the holiday cottages thread Hmm I think DH is about to be informed that he wants a motorhome.

MagdaS · 16/06/2020 13:25

The idea of the Trafford Centre or similar makes me shudder, but that’s because I hate it anyway. I can’t imagine queuing for it - I keep a 10 mile radius away from it at Xmas for that reason.

Some good news here!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/06/2020 13:26

Soooooo how do we think Dementors will spin this?

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/health-53061281

I'm going with "its propaganda to get us all out and about" with a sprinkle of "genocide" or "eugenics"

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 13:27

X post! Yes, propaganda to convince us all it’s safe to go to Greggs.

Worldgonecrazy · 16/06/2020 13:27

I can recommend the T-shirts and vests from Primark. The ones with Lycra wash much better than the four times the price ones from M & S.

BarkandCheese · 16/06/2020 13:27

I’m so fed up of enjoying sodding nature, I want to enjoy unnatural things dammit.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/06/2020 13:27

I like how we gave very different takes on that @driving 😁
