This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

(Sorry about the feeble title)

what a brilliant word @Nihiloxica ... perfect!

(I had to google - it means empty flattery, ingratiating talk, disingenuous praise)

BarkandCheese · 16/06/2020 18:00

They need to decide about reducing the 2m rule before 4th July, even if it’s only that the ruling can change from the 4th. It’s not fair to restaurants, pubs and so on to keep them hanging on or to put them in the position where they’ve put up signage and markings for 2m only to tell them at the last minute they can go down to 1m.

NannyPhlegm · 16/06/2020 18:00

Well, in response to the briefing today, the biggest dementor on my FB has declared that the scientists are all lying because they want us to go out and work and Sadly Die.
The same person has been beating everyone into submission with the Scientist stick since February. The mental gymnastics he's performed today is repulsive, really.

DominaShantotto · 16/06/2020 18:02

My kids are missing out on an education because a floppy haired serial shagging arsehole won't fully open the bloody schools! They're IN school physically - but in a keyworker bubble as childcare essentially - the class teachers are trying to sneak some education in there but with the mix of age groups it's basically teaching to the youngest and babysitting (and a lot of colouring in).

I just can't see an end to it - they keep dangling this change to 2m - but they still won't unlock the bloody playgrounds - it's like they're just toying with us saying "soon soon soon" everytime we get remotely restless.

I'm sinking further and further into depression.

Theluggage15 · 16/06/2020 18:02

Trappedsince and HesterShaw. I was thinking about Eeyore too! I always hear that voice when reading that posters positive contributions! Also Blakey from on the buses if anyone remembers that cheery chap!

NannyPhlegm · 16/06/2020 18:02

To be honest I don’t think Boris ever wanted schools to close in the first place. He bowed to public pressure.

Once Scotland and Wales had jumped the gun and shut schools, he was cornered into doing the same.
We were first into lockdown and still languishing in it, lucky us.

Yep - I think that's the tightrope they are walking this week. Vallance actually being positive about the change for the first time suggests to me they are basically waiting for the next ONS study in order to have some "science" (!) to hang it on.
dkl55 · 16/06/2020 18:04

Read an interesting article in WSJ this morning. It's a bit from an economics perspective but basically saying lockdown isn't worth it. And also mentioned "the now widely discredited oxford study"... Hmm. Very silent in our media about that fact. Oh and Nicola can do one www.wsj.com/articles/the-data-are-in-its-time-for-major-reopening-11592264199

AnxiousElephant77 · 16/06/2020 18:05

@Bark I completely agree. They'll be spending capital they haven't got on marking the floors and whatever. The last thing they need is him coming along a couple of days before, saying it can all change.

SomewhereEast · 16/06/2020 18:11

The cynic in me thinks the Gov is waiting for a week or two & letting the economic bad news keep piling up before ditching the 2m rule.

@torydeathdrug

what a brilliant word *@Nihiloxica* ... perfect!

(I had to google - it means empty flattery, ingratiating talk, disingenuous praise)

Yeah, it's a great word.

Interesting to see a dictionary definition. Smile

Allflightscancelled · 16/06/2020 18:15

@Domina hang in there Thanks

Willow2017 · 16/06/2020 18:15

Also Blakey from on the buses
Hell yes thats perfect!

Went on that kids thread, nope, deleted my post and backed out its just ignorant BS. All kids are filthy, adults never touch anything and always wash thier hands🤣🤣 They have obviously never sat opposite the toilets in a restaurant or pub!
My kids loved a big garden centre and still do. We have had great times there chosing plants, buying pepper, tomato plants etc to grow themselves, play area, ducks on a pond, tropical fish. Why on earth do people think its only adults who appreciate some things?

All the "a child will take a space in a supermarket and that will piss them off as the child isnt spending money" bollocks. "I will have to queue for 3.5 more minutes" oh get over yourself. A parent and child might take 15 minutes to pop in for essentials when a couple might be half an hour getting shopping for a family of 5 how the feck would you tell?

This country is getting more self obsessed and selfish by the day.

CarrotPuff · 16/06/2020 18:21

@DominaShantotto I hear you. Although our school does do some actual teaching, but it's obviously not the same. I did, however, have to decide whether to send DS into his Y1 class with the rest of his pals 2 days a week, or key workers for 5 days. There are a few kw kids from his class there with him, but they're not the ones he usually plays with. He seems to be ok with it, but it still makes me sad. And the way he starts a sentence relating to anything in future with "when the virus is over..." 😭

Willow2017 · 16/06/2020 18:24

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

Thanks all.

And thank you to the MNer who added the missing 'r' to my username... The Mumsnet username field is one space short!

Ha ha i did that as i thought i had missed the r when i copied & pasted🤣🤣 Just shows you that your mind fills in things that it thinks should be there😉
Ibake · 16/06/2020 18:24

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito so sorry to hear your news. Friend of mine has continued to receive excellent cancer care throughout all this, including chemo and surgery, so take heart. Also the legendary Karol Sakora on Twitter is advocating hard for cancer treatment so he may have useful hints and tips on there to help you and your family fight for the correct level of care xx

As for Chief Dementor. I don't even know where to start. Am thinking very, very black and nasty thoughts. She's so determined to knock back every single positive. No wonder her kids live 100 miles away. She's so sodding miserable. You are doing a valiant effort over there guys but I just can't bring myself to join you as I suspect I'll end up saying something utterly vile to her.

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 18:32

Is she dementing now? Which thread?

SockYarn · 16/06/2020 18:35

Has anyone heard from the poster who was having to go into hospital to have chemo? Think her username was Jourdaine, or Jordaine or similar.

Was just thikning about her and wondered how she was getting on.

Ibake · 16/06/2020 18:36

@Drivingdownthe101 the one with the stars and yes, a few more posts within the last hour but she was in fine form yesterday. Must literally have spent the entire day going backwards and forwards between both threads

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 18:36

Haha I’ll have a look.

Allflightscancelled · 16/06/2020 18:37

Ooh no, she's gone quiet hope she's doing ok

Allflightscancelled · 16/06/2020 18:38

That was about Jourdain not the dementor

Willow2017 · 16/06/2020 18:39

SockYarn havent seen her for a several days now. Hope she is just concentrating on herself for now.
🌼 if you are reading Jourdain11 thinking about you.

SockYarn · 16/06/2020 18:40

@Jourdain11, that was it. Sending love. Get back on here and help us fight these dementors.

MagdaS · 16/06/2020 18:40

Thread has moved on but I also have the pain of Zoom music lessons. Trumpet on a Tuesday and flute starts tomorrow. The trumpet is OK, if loud, he’s Grade 4, but the flute is going to be very very beginner and probably torture. Good job I’ll be out.

In better news speech therapy for my youngest resumes next week, albeit over Zoom. It was immediately cancelled on lockdown and he’s regressed a bit.
