I agree, and don't worry we have all views here, we could have got tested back in March but they wouldn't test us. And now blaming and shaming the public is a bit much. (and breathe)

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 18:57

I am missing Callander and Stirling now. Went to unit there in the 1990s. Cream teas in Callander on the bus, pub after.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 18:58

University not a psych unit

HesterShaw1 · 14/06/2020 19:01

I don't think you're a nob at all - I think what you have written is very sensible. I agree that the government are utterly negligent with their response at the start - the evidence was pointing to a dangerous frightening unknown virus. They fucked it up utterly - and we could have had many thousands more dead if we had been relying on their prompt and decisive action.

I'm sorry you and your family are in this shitty position.

The issue is the situation we find ourselves in now and the their utter lack of backbone.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 14/06/2020 19:01

No judgement. 😂

Spudlet · 14/06/2020 19:02

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks I don’t think you’re a knob at all. And I don’t think you’re a dementor either - a true dementor would be screeching about how we must all STAY AT HOME OR WE WILL ALL DIE DIE YOU MURDERERS. And you seem to have forgotten to add that bit to your post Grin

I feel for everyone ‘shielding’. It must be utterly shite. Flowers

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 19:03

Yeah Boris was a great role model not washing his hands then preaching at us. he changed his tune didn't he. I was always Hmm at singing happy birthday.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 14/06/2020 19:06

If it’s any consolation bubbles, I know 3 people with severe health complications (including being on the transplant list) who’ve had it. All had a miserable fortnight in bed but are ok now. It helped me realise it’s not an automatic death sentence.

Mamamia87 · 14/06/2020 19:13

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks you don’t sound dementory, it’s great to hear a balanced view from someone who has genuine reason to fear the virus. Agree totally regarding ‘look sideways not upways’, I cant quite put my finger on what the government did/said that made normal folk start behaving like stasi??

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 14/06/2020 19:14

Ooh I bet someone, on a thread I've missed, has already posted the Boris Johnson "I shook hands with coronavirus patients hahaha" video.

But no! don't look at Boris's total fuckwittery, look over there - Gladys is kissing her grandchild! Let's (MN favourite) report her.

I also resent being used as a political football (and oh the irony, an actual shield) for the governments poor decision making to date. Stop fucking shoving the blame onto me and people like me via the medium of "no, you can't go to the playground/shops/do anything at all" because we have a duty to protect the vulnerable. It fosters the old them and us and makes people resent us. It's as though the government want to prod people into thinking "we locked down to protect you you ungrateful twat, stop moaning you can't go out as you've stopped me going to work".

PS also have had ZERO contact from anyone/anything following the (three) shielding letters I got. Registered on the registration website twice - nothing. Cant get priority slots (apart from Ocado Hmm) definitely no magic food boxes, no texts, no magic offers of "support". For those of us working, there is no obligation at all on our employers to give time off or pay us. We may get SSP of £95 a week. There is no help/support. Nothing. We are just told to stay inside and they go on TV and bang on about the wonderful, unprecedented, world class support they've offered us. My MP hasn't even replied to me.

Oooh that was quite cathartic!

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 14/06/2020 19:15

Oh sorry, lots of nice replies whilst I was typing! I'm glad you all understand. Thank you.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 14/06/2020 19:16

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks

I don't think you're a nob. The difference between what you have written and what a true dementor would have posted is huge. You don't write that because you are shielding, we must all do the same. As for face masks the true dementor will insist that we must have them nailed to our face at all times, as anything less is MURDER.

You are a long way from being a dementor. So pull up a chair, and enjoy our hysteria free threads.

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 14/06/2020 19:30

Has the chair been disinfected? Wink

Yes I also dislike the reverse - that it's the responsibility of non shielded people to protect the shielded by limiting their own lives. Of course we should all try and have a bit of common decency and not actively put people at risk if we can reasonably avoid - but reasonably! Expecting other people's children not to see their friends or go to school to "protect me"'isn't reasonable, how could it be? I would never put that burden on my own DC so would never do it to other families.

Above and beyond what's reasonable, I don't think it's fair to expect or demand, yes it sucks that my life is a bit shit but making other people's lives more shit won't help. (well it might in a sort of schadenfreude way Grin)

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 14/06/2020 19:35

So whilst lots of you probably think I'm a knob for wanting face masks etc

I don't think so about anything you've wirtten.

Even now I think face masks might help with public confidence to be out and about and on short public transport commutes they'd be a help in stopping spread of many viruses.

Not so much longer journeys as eating, drinking and genrally fidgeting I think would render them less useful. Plus all the people who wear them under their noses.

I also think working shielding people have been forgotten - and do wonder how much high risk children are actually being palnned for by education departments.

gingerbreadslice · 14/06/2020 19:40

@Orangeblossom78 Yes I can we only live around the corner and I can't see her walking all the way without a whinge. Without the scooter!

AgentCooper · 14/06/2020 19:40

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks I think you’re absolutely justified. I think we were all ready to commit to a lockdown for up to 12 weeks, shite though it would be, to make things safer. But in that time we wanted proper action in place to get out of that lockdown, mainly testing, and it hasn’t happened. The waffly nature of the govt ‘advice’ is rocket fuel for dementors because they can interpret it in any batshit way they want and bellow from the rooftops. And now this neverending business. I remember reading a Facebook post from an American woman in China saying don’t worry, we’ve had 8 weeks of lockdown here, it’s been rough but now things are getting moving again, and thinking ok, I can possibly handle that. This I am struggling to handle.

I feel rotten for shielded folk because until they get a proper testing system moving, and advice on how to live safely alongside this virus instead of shutting the whole country down, then you are the most stuck of all. It’s crap Flowers

Willow2017 · 14/06/2020 19:41

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks
Sorry but you are a disgrace to the name Dementor! Wink
Your post was far too blanced and sensible to qualify you.
Welcome to the crazy gang.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/06/2020 19:45

Anyone starting to think we should have a secret handshake or something in case we meet in the wild 😁😂

SomewhereEast · 14/06/2020 19:46

Nope, true dementing is when you interpret a mumsnet thread expressing relief at falling death rates as people "celebrating" death Hmm.

InfiniteGerbils · 14/06/2020 19:47

Yeah sorry @OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks

You are way, WAY too measured, articulate, sensible and balanced to be one of the Dementors

AnxiousElephant77 · 14/06/2020 19:56

@AgentCooper I completely agree with all you've said.

I'm having a horribly wobbly day because it really does feel like there's no end in sight. Or no end in sight of us actually having anything that looks like our normal lives.

Dowser · 14/06/2020 19:58

I saw orbital at a festival somewhere
Must’ve been about 20 years ago
And chemical brothers

Dowser · 14/06/2020 20:02

Had a lovely day today
Got to van about 2
Had lunch in the sunshine
Then drove a bit nearer York to see my dil and baby
Just got back now
Had sausage and beans on balcony and am about to drive the 50 mins home as we aren’t allowed to stay 😢

It’s been wonderful though..a little bit of normality
Makes up for a shitty week where I haven’t been well and the weather mainly crap
( it’s nice to be reunited with my things too)

AgentCooper · 14/06/2020 20:04

@AnxiousElephant77 big murderous cuddle for you. I’m so sorry you’re having a wobbly day, I’ve had way too many of those myself recently.

I keep reminding myself that George Harrison said All Things Must Pass and he was a smart guy.

Willitneverend · 14/06/2020 20:04

More mad dementoring on Andrew Bowie MPs thread on education. Criticising the Scottish Government and wanting a better education means parents will die, according to one MSP (I actually think the SNP have now completely misjudged the mood on this, parents are furious now).

If I had time I'd start off some sort of hall of shame for some of this stuff.
