@LivinLaVidaLoki Same, honestly. I know it’s not fair to judge a whole community on a vocal minority, but it’s also really hard to remove the sour taste that all this has left.

We have a family tradition of holidaying at a particular village in Wales every few years, as an extended family. I won’t be hurrying to return for a while though.

Nihiloxica · 13/06/2020 09:55

Boy's clothes are so often weird small versions of men's clothes.

Why not dress your crawling baby in a nice smart shirt with a collar and buttons all down the front?

Team it with a pair of slacks with a proper fly. Confused

The more expensive brands do nice leggings and stuff that you would actually want a baby or toddler to wear.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 09:59

I’m really sorry that we’ve made you feel unwelcome. The fact is though we have done. It’s not a perception that could go either way. I’d love to defend wales but I can’t, but I am sorry. I

Wales get in touch when you're in Cornwall. Can't speak for Cattermole, but I'm sure she'd join me in saying we'll happily be non crazy, non Dementory and welcoming!

Where are you staying? (ish)

Sorry I think I confused the matter! I fancied eloping but dp doesn't. Everything's booked for next year now anyhow!!
Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 10:13

Thank you. That’s nice. We’re staying near Newquay so any recommendations for an 8 year old would be welcome! It’s not until mid July so I’m hoping that tourist season enthusiasm will mean we’re welcome(ish)! I booked it before we’d even heard of CV!

And yes boy clothing is rubbish In comparison to girls! Plus with ds going to nursery it all gets knacked really quickly. It's a nightmare.

Dowser · 13/06/2020 10:23

Hester
I'm about to have my FOURTH period of lockdown 🤬🤬🤬😡😡😠😤😤👿 This is Unacceptable, but may well explain my doom laden Weltschmerz of the last few days, and the dissolving into snotty tears when DP and I had a small misunderstanding yesterday.

What’s that all about?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 13/06/2020 10:24

I'm the opposite, I buy a lot of boy's clothes for DD because they're better made / thicker fabric / have actual pockets and, crucially, don't have the obligatorily hordes of unicorns shitting glitter drawn all over them.

Dowser · 13/06/2020 10:24

We usually go to wales twice a year
I’m not looking at going this year
My welsh relatives can come here instead

Dowser · 13/06/2020 10:27

Wales
My cousin moved from an apartment at the knap to a house on port road
Unless you live in barry you can’t get down to the island
Been terrible she said

Unfortunately one of my DD’s is a massive shitting unicorn fan! She also refuses to wear trousers... ever. Summer or winter. The other one hates pink and ‘girly’ stuff but she also hates wearing anything baggy or loose (sensory thing I think) so we have to hunt out blue, practical clothes designed for girls as they tend to be tighter fitting (which is Hmm in itself!).
Laniakea · 13/06/2020 10:28

We were supposed to be going to Cornwall today - 10 days near Newquay. The cottage owners warned us not to go (even if we were ‘allowed’) as the locals were being so aggressive. We usually (like every year for ever) go for a couple to north or west Wales ... I think we’ll go for Suffolk next year.

Flippetydip · 13/06/2020 10:31

Bugger - we were supposed to be going to my parents today and DH woke up with a tight chest and cough. It is undoubtedly not COVID but there is being non-dementor-like and there is being totally irresponsible. So he’s had a test as he’s a teacher and we’re at home - waiting for the inevitable negative outcome.

Shock
Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 10:34

We can’t cancel without losing all the money but I’m hoping my neutral accent will help.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/06/2020 10:36

Our Devon cottage is booked for August... I’m hoping by then they’ll realise they really need tourists!

Mascotte · 13/06/2020 10:38

@Flippetydip that's Sod's law, isn't it? Hope he feels better and test is negative.

Mum is 80% recovered from the stroke physically but the depression is kicking in slowing her progress - maybe hugging the grandchildren will boost her up enough to want to push herself with the physio

It's good she's found some justification - it's a lot easier for natural rule followers than admitting far too much fuss has been made. If she wasn't able to see and hug her grandchildren/children again (along with losing all other social life) it really would likely be a case of existing rather than living.

Cattermole · 13/06/2020 10:53

@Laniakea the locals on the West Brit website are being assholes.

The locals IRL aren't (unless you're Gordon Ramsay in which case I believe all bets are off)
My neighbour next door runs a beach cafe. I assure you she doesn't hate tourists :-D
(You're probably right not to travel currently though, there's sod all to do.)

HesterShaw1 · 13/06/2020 11:01

Yes, please don't believe what social media is saying. Those who shout loudest are heard etc.

My tight chest and cough was a fungus..aspergillus
You’d have thought it was covid
I vaporise my home brewed colloidal silver with a drop or two of food grade hydrogen peroxide.
That helps with coughs. Breathe in the vapour, up nose, mouth, eyes and ears.

Dowser · 13/06/2020 11:05

I can’t imagine the local cafe owners, restaurants etc wouldn’t welcome you with open arms
