Scientists are not always right and some of them deserve to be eaten by Indominus Raptors

Brilliant. Roaring here.

SomewhereEast · 12/06/2020 19:09

The BBC news website's Coronavirus Live Feed just had a good little article on why the regional R number thing is basically bollocks (its almost that blunt)

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 19:16

I just read that R number thing. We need to ditch using it as any form of measurement now cases in the community are so low. I don’t want to be locked down to my house again because the huge local hospital still has cases.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 12/06/2020 19:17

@Orangeblossom78

Inverclyde one of worst drugs area and also worst hit for the virus too, these are not healthy communities and it will expose Scotland's poor health outcomes etc

www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/news/17625906.damning-statistics-reveal-extent-of-inverclydes-drug-abuse-problem/

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/06/you-can-see-the-stress-inverclyde-tops-uks-coronavirus-death-tables

Maybe NS needs to think about tacking the underlying problems and health perhaps

That is the case where I live. Some parts of it anyway. Our infection to death ratio is quite high so local dementors are always on about locking down the area.....staying locked down for years without actually acknowledging why we have had such poor outcomes.
SomewhereEast · 12/06/2020 19:27

I don't get the regional R number thing. Surely SAGE etc know its of very little use right now. The cynic in me thinks that if people realised quite how scarce the virus has become in their immediate communities social distancing would go to the wall, so we have the vague meaningless regional R numbers to scare us all.

Someone on another thread claiming the r number here is currently 2. Fuck off is it. Though they must know as they are frontline and got it in their daily comms....
Teateaandmoretea · 12/06/2020 19:30

I’ve just booked the zoo. £70 to go to fucking Twycross for 2 adults and 2 children, I imagine with half of it shut 😂😂. But the animal-loving kids are delighted and you can’t take it with you can you? I’ve only ever been when it’s all been open and there’s been a special offer before. Next Sunday omg

FluffyKittensinabasket · 12/06/2020 19:30

Is anybody actually following the “bubbles” nonsense? I’ve been staying at parents house and MiLs.

Teateaandmoretea · 12/06/2020 19:31

If you live next door to a care home that’s probably true

FluffyKittensinabasket · 12/06/2020 19:32

I’m annoyed how many people are questioning how they can see only one family member. Or if they can hug!

Do what you want FFS. Why ask permission to hug your mum?

FIL is on the shielded list. DF is alone and has joined our bubble, he turned up on Thursday. He’s an ‘extreme extrovert’ and gawd knows what he’s up to when he isn’t here 🤦🏻‍♀️. But he’s the one at risk and it’s up to him.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 12/06/2020 19:35

I have a very straight laced friend. He works as civil servant, quite senior, in a Covid19 role. He’s got a new girlfriend and they’ve been staying at each other’s houses for weeks now. He is very law abiding but he doesn’t seem to care so I’m finding it hard to.

^^it’s common sense imo rather than cynicism

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/06/2020 19:38

Teateaandmoretea ooh are they accepting bookings now? Last time I tried they weren’t.

Dowser · 12/06/2020 19:39

Haven’t been far this week with the rotten weather but the answer to that is no, I wouldn’t anyway, cos li,e you said it’s all no sense.
Said to dd yesterday, it’s frightening that people who went to Eton Harrow, Oxford, Cambridge and everywhere prestigious in between came up with the stupid nonsense that has been presented to us.

ThatLibraryMiss · 12/06/2020 19:39

Bugger.

It's the third week in September, so over three months away. I think they've cancelled (a) much too soon and (b) needlessly.

My lovely neighbour left me some money and I was going to buy a really nice garden table and chairs so I could sit and think of her. (She died last Summer, long before all this nastiness.) I was planning to go to the garden show and see what's on offer.

I've just had an email from the people I was planning on hiring a hall from, for my self-defence classes. She sounds extremely un-Dementory, so I shall be getting in touch with her asap.

And today I bumped into my friend, whose daughter is in year 6 at the school in my road, which in turn is a feeder school for ds2's school. Her daughter is back at school, full time, every day. Which gives me quiet hope that ds2's school might be equally as brave and stoic come September.

So a little more hopeful today, despite being stupidly tired.

Teateaandmoretea · 12/06/2020 19:41

@Drivingdownthe101 YES 🤩

Well we have been. Mainly because my mum (who lives alone round the corner, in a village where everyone knows everyone) works at our local surgery as a nurse and she didn’t want to be seen entering our house as she has a position of responsibility I guess. So the bubble thing means that she’s now happy to come in and us to go to hers.
My dad also lives nearby and only sees us in the garden as yet. IL’s live in Spain.
I must just have very law abiding family!

HesterShaw1 · 12/06/2020 19:42

This might be outing but our town was due to be opening on the 15th. People are working very hard to prepare and get everywhere "safe", including lots of volunteers. The mayor has been in the paper saying she won't support it because the R number is too high.

This is presumably the same R number which went up because of false positives in Taunton, and the SPIKE at Weston, both of which are well over 100 miles away.

Nice one Madam Mayor. Will you be compensating people for their lost income?

BogRollBOGOF · 12/06/2020 19:44

I've really enjoyed my hangover today. I'd have struggled with the weather anyway. We've all just vegetated, so it's been a good day to feel crappy with the smug feeling that I enjoyed earning a sore, wobbly head Grin

I've still got a huggy glow from my illicit hugs and sitting on an illicit sofa in an illicit house for about 6 hours. It really was medicine for the soul. Sometimes it's good to snap and have a good blub and expose your vulnerabilities to others.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/06/2020 19:45

If it’s part time school from September we might go to the in laws in Spain for a couple of months. They’ve got loads of room, MIL was a primary school teacher for 35 years and has far more patience than me, and they’ve got a swimming pool. Win win.

Can we come?

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/06/2020 19:46

The more the merrier Grin

RubberDinghyRapids · 12/06/2020 19:49

@TrustTheGeneGenie Did I read earlier your new job is in MH?

Welcome to the dark side Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 12/06/2020 19:49

I'm confused about the "bubbles" given that we could already meet 5 others anyway. I've not been my most attentive this week. I was struggling anyway between time, weather, hormones and the hammer blow of losing hope on schools.
I'm not feeling my most compliant so I've not really looked it up.
