I painted my (shit UPVC) front door magenta today

and I bloody love it 😆. Makes me grin every time I look at it.

Ideally would've had a new door but too £££ at the minute.

Was a bland and badly painted green/grey before.

OMFG! You can paint UPVC doors! whoopee!

If you have a newish upvc door, before you paint it, check the wording of any warranties.

Had a brown door and painted it sage green. Also painted the horrid gold hardware black.

Looks like a new door. Really pleased with how it came out.

@userxx it’s zinsser, slate grey from Rawlins paints.

Make sure you clean all dust n grime off it first 🤗

@bumbleb33s Thank you!!! I actually cleaned my door last week with proper UPVC cleaner..... it's like it's meant to be :)

Incidentally I showed some of these puctures to my fore-mentioned conservative DH and he also became quite inspired! I was astonished. So we are discussing colours..... I think i might get a deep red past him......

I have got some Rust Oleum paint in French Grey. Going to prep the door today and will paint if weather is ok.

Can I ask - what sort of brush did you use and where did you get your new door furniture from?

@Mooserp hi, I don’t have new door furniture, I sprayed the old set From gold to silver. And the brush was quite wide and I got a really good one from a hardware shop rather than the cheap ones, so the paint went on really well and no bristles came out like they do on the cheap ones, well worth it, I also taped around the glass panels for ease x

What a great idea to spray it. I was wondering how to find some that would fit.

What did you use?

@Mooserp I used a spray that's suitable for metal, put them on some sheets of paper, sprayed and left, really easy then screwed them back on :)

I have a slight problem with my door.
I didn't realise until I'd done the first coat, but there are 3 bars in the top window that are set within the glass so I can't paint them

Door is similar to this picture. Any ideas what to do with this to stop the white bits standing out and looking like I've missed them?

@Mooserp that's the exact door I have, just had to leave them

Mooserp Could you paint onto the glass to cover them (using masking tape to make sure the lines are painted in the correct place?) Might that work when it's viewed from a step or two away?

I am not a DIY type person AT ALL and I realise it'd be obvious up close but other than leave them white I'm not sure what else you can do.

@JorisBonson I did wonder if maybe I should just claim it is a 'feature' 😄

Was hoping there was something I could do to the glass to maybe make it a bit less obvious.

I'd cover up the glass with masking tape, or painter's tape, then paint the bars.

I'm currently in rented, and can't paint the doors. When I get my own place, I'll have uPVC doors and paint them. I want a nice medium teal or turquoise.

If the bars are behind the glass, what happens if the glass is broken? Surely there must be some way to open that bit up to change the glass in that case? If so, would you be able to remove the glass temporarily to paint the bars?

They're within a sealed unit

I'm going to try some black tape on the glass and see if it looks any better...

It's a shame if there's no way into that bit.

Finished spraying the furniture. I'm happy with it apart from the white bits I can't paint!

I used rust oleum paint and found it horrible to work with, very thick.
