and I bloody love it 😆. Makes me grin every time I look at it.

Ideally would've had a new door but too £££ at the minute.

Was a bland and badly painted green/grey before.

What's made you happy today?

@needsahouseboy

Oh the man that came to fix my patio doors told me about painting front doors! Was it easy? Has it come out okay? I stripped the melamine off my kitchen cupboards and painted those and was really impressed. I’m very tempted to my front door now I’ve see yours.
Super easy! Just gave it a good clean first, then 2 coats. Took a couple of hours to do the inside with drying time.
Somanysocks · 21/06/2020 19:39

I always said I would never buy a house with a white plastic front door.

I bought a house with a white plastic front door. I hate it, didn't know you could successfully paint them.

Op, I'm inspired, just need to decide on colour.

Tink1990 · 21/06/2020 21:20
@Tink1990 mine is cheap looking and just boring. When we bought this house I always wanted to save up and have a sunshine yellow front door, so this is the next best thing!
Thank you for answering! Fair enough, I was just bemused, I quite like uPVC doors I suppose haha.

@SwedishEdith

Genuine question as I've never heard people irl talk about their hatred of uPVC doors!

Seriously? Maybe everyone just knows how awful they look so we don't need to talk about it any more Grin. Mine is so horrible I'd resent even pasting paint on it.

Haha, yes, seriously Grin

Wow that is gorgeous!!
StatisticallyChallenged · 21/06/2020 23:15

Thanks JorisBohnson. We're about to go on the market and I'm just waiting for an estate agent to tell me to blandify it

MulticolourMophead · 21/06/2020 23:51

I never knew you could paint a uPVC door. Something to keep in mind for the future. I'd love a bright turquoise door.

JorisBonson · 23/06/2020 13:18

The front is now finished - bit more slapdash than the inside but it looks good from far away 😂

The handles and letterbox were standard uPVC white too, DP sprayed them with spray paint

JorisBonson · 23/06/2020 13:25

@StatisticallyChallenged - DP said the same - happy to put a shitty front door on when we try to sell 😂

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/06/2020 13:40

So far they seem to be suggesting leaving it, thankfully. I hate painting it!

SionnachGlic · 23/06/2020 22:55

Wow...

The magenta, yellow door & pink door are super! I am definitely going to do something with my black door...I need to check what it is made of first, I think it is composite (looks like wood but is not?!) & of course knowing me I would buy the wrong paint & royally f it up. Thanks for all the tips...

@QuentinQuarantinoI think you may have started something amongst the MN following

longtompot · 23/06/2020 23:08

@JorisBonson Your door is gorgeous and exactly the colour I've been looking at for my front door. I think it's the colour I've saved for when I want to paint our rubbish faded red front door. It faces south and just looks terrible. I think yellow will fare better.
The Rust-oleum colours are great, but I can't see where to buy them from locally. Where did you buy your for £20 @QuentinQuarantino ?

JorisBonson · 24/06/2020 17:06

@longtompot I used this which OP recommend

bumbleb33s · 25/06/2020 18:20

I just got my paint delivered from Rawlins, they’re expensive as you have to pay big postage but cheaper than a new front door, I’m doing mine Saturday, will post a pic when done, if it turns out good Hmm

JorisBonson · 25/06/2020 21:49

Can't wait to see @bumbleb33s

Mooserp · 26/06/2020 10:13

I was going to get some from Rawlins, but with VAT and shipping it is £33.83 for delivery in 7-10 working days (nearly £40 for faster delivery)

Would like to know if there's a cheaper option

bumbleb33s · 03/07/2020 05:14

I felt it was expensive too @Mooserp, but wanted the right stuff and much cheaper than a new front door. Finally done mine, when the rain stopped, not brave enough to go with bright colours, also looking to sell, but I’m happy with it 😊

Another one who didn't know you could paint uPVC. I'll be sharing that bit of info - so thanks for the links!

Also love the photo of the garden with the aqua walls though I spent more time looking at the dog and wishing I could see his/her face.

GreenMintTeaMug · 03/07/2020 06:19

I am loving these doors! I have felt slightly envious that ours is a boring old black wood door! (And looking sideways with annoyance at DH who would never let me change the colour as he is very conservative).

I might paint the garden furniture this weekend. It's long overdue. I last did it when i was on maternity leave and that particular child is now 11.

franke · 03/07/2020 06:29

@bumbleb33s that looks very classy. I love all the bright colours on here too. We also painted our front door during lock down - does that mean it's a thing? We went from very 80s dark stained wood to a pale mushroom. Sounds a bit dull I know but it's brightened up the front of our rather tired 1980s terrace no end.

userxx · 03/07/2020 06:29

@bumbleb33s That looks fantastic!!

bumbleb33s · 03/07/2020 07:44

Thanks guys 🤗 I’m happy with it.
If it helps those of you that are unsure, i’d say definitely go for it. I am the worst decorator, I cut corners and I’m a bit slapdash, but I took my time, the first coat is a tiny bit streaky so don’t worry about that and then the second coat goes on perfectly and it dries really quickly too. It took me about two hours 🤗

JorisBonson · 03/07/2020 07:48

Looks fab @bumbleb33s!

RHOBHfan · 03/07/2020 07:57

Just done ours with dulux weathershield multipurpose.

750ml tin did front door (3 coats), garage door (2 coats) and 2 meter cupboards (2 coats)

Does metal, wood, upvc (we did door and garage door the same colour)

No primer or sanding required! Looks fantastic. Time will tell if it lasts....
