This stood out for me Sad

"What about all of the non-Covid health issues? At the weekend BBC’s Broadcasting House featured the story of Angela, who has cancer. She had an operation scheduled for the end of March as part of her treatment, then when the lockdown came into force, it was postponed. Now, she has been told her tumour is inoperable.

Impressively she remains stoic and positive despite her predicament. This situation should never have happened; yet is one that will have been repeated across the country. Cancer deaths in the UK are predicted to rise by about 18,000 because of breaks in treatment and diagnosis. Meanwhile, the Nightingale hospital sits empty and hospitals report empty wards."

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:10

That’s just heartbreaking

userxx · 19/05/2020 08:11

@TrustTheGeneGenie Yep, I think some people are loving living like this and they would happily do so for the rest of their miserable existence. I can even begin to understand why 🤷‍♂️

Orangeblossom78 · 19/05/2020 08:12

"It is time to break out of the coronaverse bubble and look at the bigger picture. The consequences of not doing so are too great to ignore."

Orangeblossom78 · 19/05/2020 08:13

coronaverse bubble yes- seeing everything through a prism. She has the dementors to a tee

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:14

What’s caused it though? Has fear changed them or were they always thus?

TitianaTitsling · 19/05/2020 08:15

@Daffodil101 "safe?! It will NEVER BE SAFE AGAIN!!!" "This is the new normal"... Just to quickly get that in incase you were missing the dementoring. @PaulHollywoodsSexGut I'm the same, most mornings have tears from everyone- we've just had 'lunch' as been up since 5ish too.. of course as a thread I was stupidly on as ever rubbishes children's mental health. To stick with the dementor theme, I'm starting to feel there's a 'taboo' on that phrase. Mention 'children's mental health' with any concern and the dementors turn up to shrink they are pathetic, snowflakes and never had it so good!!

Orangeblossom78 · 19/05/2020 08:16

maybe nature and environment

TitianaTitsling · 19/05/2020 08:16

shriek not shrink!

Cattermole · 19/05/2020 08:17

@Orangeblossom78 just before we shut down, DM had a fall at home and was taken into hospital for X rays. Hadn't dislocated her hip but nothing showed. Stll finding it painful to walk 6 weeks later she rang local GP (which claims to have reopened for business) and was given a phone consultation. Another 2 weeks down the line she's still finding it painful to walk and her leg is now swollen. She rang yesterday and got another phone appointment... on Thursday....
I mean that's not really OK, is it?

Bollss · 19/05/2020 08:18

I bet some people were always like this but I bet a lot have been scared into being this way.

I'm usually a big rule follower but this has pushed me the other way.

Equally I've looked at the statistics (which are all apparently lies) and realised that my chance of death is teeny tiny.

I have more real fears about my child getting meningitis or sepsis than I do this but we have to live our life.

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:18

Interestingly, the head at DD’s primary was all about mental health until this. It was obvious she was jumping on a bandwagon and cared/understood nothing about it. Recent attitude proves the point.

Blobby10 · 19/05/2020 08:20

Anyone else finding the constant scaremongering headlines are making them irrationally angry? Todays gem: people in hospital with COVID get hallucinations and delirium. Of course they bloody do - they have a high temperature!! Anyone with a high temperature can get those symptoms! Its not just bloody sodding COVID 19!!!!! I think I need to take a break from TV and online news - this is the only place I feel like I'm not the only sane person in a mad mad world!!

A lovely thread where everyone has found something good to say and said it without anyone calling anyone a murderer. It's an oasis. One poster had IVF cancelled but got pregnant naturally. The OP has got rid of bits. Sometimes it's literally the little things. Grin

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:22

I agree with you, Blob.

Can I call you Blob?! 😂

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:22

Bits or nits?

heroku · 19/05/2020 08:25

Just got back from a murderous run. A few people jumping into hedges this morning or cowering around the street corner as I passed them. They must have known I was on a killing spree.

I was thinking of getting a t-shirt printed like the FRANKIE SAY RELAX one on Friends.

Except it would say EPIDEMIOLOGISTS SAY "NOBODY CATCHES IT BY PASSING SOMEONE ON THE STREET"

Coronabored · 19/05/2020 08:26

The dementors want to lock down again. They are actually quite morbid people, who don't care about any deaths. I remember after the Manchester terror attack, a few posters revelled in it. Said this is the new normal. No more shopping or concerts. Quite eerily similar.

DominaShantotto · 19/05/2020 08:30

I was born in Seaham. Total aside.

Haven’t told dd2 yet she’s going back to some form of school - but her mental health should not have had to get as bad as it has before she got that option. Spoke to her on the phone yesterday and her telephone speech, which was never the best, is barely intelligible - she’s lost a good couple of years of progress and right now we will never get her old speech therapist to have space to take her back on.

Going to ask the eldest’s school for some support as well as she’s been kicking the shit out of me to channel her frustrations over lockdown - I’ve had to focus on supporting the little one first - and the big ones school is a lot more can do through this, but yes I’m pushing now.

SockYarn · 19/05/2020 08:32

I don't really get why they're so certain we'll need to lock down again?Do they want to?!

Yes! Dementors want everyone superglued into their houses being totally miserable.

TitianaTitsling · 19/05/2020 08:33

Agree Corona they don't care about any deaths not related to 'the covid' but seem not to understand that people did actually die from a myriad of other health issues prior to that. It's as if until this pandemic everyone slipped peacefully away in their very late 90s, and it's outrageous people are dying from illness.

userxx · 19/05/2020 08:33

@Blobby10 The media need to be hung up over the amount of shit stirring and scaremongering they have done. It shouldn't have been allowed.

Coronabored · 19/05/2020 08:35

It is a really bad hospital and care home related illness and that is sad, so we have to protect those people whilst not fucking everything up for the younger generation.

Cattermole · 19/05/2020 08:37

Oh it is now official!!! A hospital in Bradford "has seen a spike in coronavirus cases due to VE Day" - one day last week it saw THIRTY CASES.
Well hold the effing mustard.....

LivinLaVidaLoki · 19/05/2020 08:42

Really @cattermole?
