Absolutely fab post, I agree with all of it. The virus poses very small risk to most people.

I’m both heartbroken and powerless when I see my own children so utterly broken now, and while I read an email from their school received today, basically telling us we will be lucky if they deign to have them back this academic year.

Monstrous indeed.

Orangeblossom78 · 19/05/2020 06:14

I am envious of the mothers in Holland they all sound so sensible and calm

We have been getting the Chinese or curry options in the meal deal in the supermarket shopping sometimes for a break from cooking.

Daft how so many of them want to move to Scotland, quite a lot of it is fairly bleak.

More nonsense from Trump today www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52717161

And the Times says we are tending to wash less in lockdown, nice! and how it might be good for us. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/70adcd0c-992d-11ea-945c-98ec4f4d8558

I'm getting more and more upset with lockdown I'm not in the UK and according to the law DS has not been permitted outside since March. That's more than a quarter of his life. We smuggled him outside to sit on some grass when it was quiet and he got overwhelmed and cried. The next time he's legally allowed out will be for vaccination. I'm terrified he will be scared to go outside.

Family back in the UK are starting to get sick from missing routine appointments and others are having panic attacks.

The stupid thing is, for me at least, this is the safest I've been in years. Last year I was pregnant and had a difficult birth. Your standard difficult birth but would have been fatal without medical care. Perhaps we should ban having kids because it's too risky. The year before that I was in Asia, in the back of tuc-tucs on roads with crazy drivers and having fun scuba diving. As with having a baby, I made a choice to take that risk because it was right for me. Not everyone could, should or would but why should it be banned for all. But the dementors seem to love an 'all holidays should be banned for ever more' thread too.

Starfish Flowers

Well they won't like this, air travel may resume (without quarantining) between areas with a low "R"..www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/air-bridges-plan-revives-hope-of-summer-flights-8wcb6drkf

missfliss · 19/05/2020 07:23

Honestly I'm so grateful for these threads. I'm getting cross with people and their inability to assess risk.
My son is at school and has been throughout (SEN specialist school) and we are having our loft converted - obviously very slow.

Both working ( one teacher and me FT at home )

I honestly think the longer this goes on the more people are going to o develop some sort of Agraphobic tendencies. We have to learn to engage with the world once more.

Don't even get me started on why VE Day piss ups were ok but schools going back isn't ....

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/05/2020 07:29

@Daffodil101 I guess you’re in Wales? In Scotland we are hoping nurseries return in advance of the new school year (August 17th) but I hold out no hope.

It’s only 7:30, I’ve been up for 2 hours and screamed my lungs out at my 2 and 4 year old already.

I want it all to end and life as normal to resume

Orangeblossom78 · 19/05/2020 07:29

Yes avoidance behaviour can make anxiety worse.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/05/2020 07:30

Feel your pain PaulHollywoodsSexGut, my 16 month old has been up since 4.40am. It’s going to be a long day.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 19/05/2020 07:41

So, the number of infections is falling, despite testing more, the number of people on hospital is falling and the 7 day average deaths is still falling.
Easter weekend the dementors screeched about a second wave as people were breaking lockdown in the sun, didn't happen. Ditto VE day.
Soooooo how have dementors not burnt themselves out yet? And surely this is a sign that actually, things may well get back to close to normal sooner rather than later.

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 07:47

Wash your mouth out! Normal??

LivinLaVidaLoki · 19/05/2020 07:51

Sorry daffodil

Bollss · 19/05/2020 07:54

Oh that bloody school thread. The scientists are wrong and the BMA know best. Best fell our Boris to get on the blower with them then eh. Hmm

I have also been shouting CHRIST ON A BIKE much more often than usual.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 19/05/2020 07:57

@Nihiloxica you’re right. I didn’t really think before using the phrase. This virus is making me rethink all sorts of things and people. Ive been appalled about the things wished on rule breakers and some of the people I reckon would turn in a neighbour. I’ll proudly say it ‘won’t someone think of the children?’

Bollss · 19/05/2020 07:59

I'm so sick of the "we'll go back when the infection rate is down and we have track and trace and this and that and the other"

I feel like saying no you won't you'll create another milestone that were not at yet so you don't have to go back!

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:00

Things are so bad that I’ve shortened it to ‘BIKE!’

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:00

‘Safe’ I’ll go back when it’s ‘safe.’

GeraltOfRivia · 19/05/2020 08:01

@bowser are the car parks open at Seaham? I live taking the dog down there. It's one of my really happy walking places. We've been sticking local around Tanfield/Beamish/Causey Arch but I'm missing her sea.

On thé covid front I happily took a break from the people on my FB feed who have gone corona loopy. Some are really good friends. I can't see it the friendships recovering. Not because of the differing opinion but because of their vehemence and idiocy. Gah. I lost a good mate during Brexit because of her horrible language too. These things really bring out the worst in people

SockYarn · 19/05/2020 08:05

Seaham is amazing! We had a holiday in Northumberland last year and took a special trip to Seaham to go seaglass hunting. Mind boggling that the factory closed over 100 years ago and every tide keeps bringing up little nuggets of this lovely glass.

Seaglass hunting is my 11 year old's favourite beach activity, we have a whole pail of the stuff in varying sizes. No idea what we're going to do with it.

Bollss · 19/05/2020 08:05

Also that thread about another lockdown.... The rates are falling and falling... We're planning on releasing measures slowly. Social distancing will likely be a semi long term thing.

I don't really get why they're so certain we'll need to lock down again?

Do they want to?!

GeraltOfRivia · 19/05/2020 08:06

We have tons too @SockYarn piles of it. I got to the point I'd keep interesting bits and give the rest to kids collecting on the beach. Unless my kids are with me then I have to keep it all 😂

Daffodil101 · 19/05/2020 08:08

They’re frothing aren’t they?

I love it when people use ‘definitely’ or ‘likely.’ Or leave little dots so you can fill in with your warped imagination............,
