Just read this report. ( I know DM) that the vaccine being developed isn’t very successful so far

It's interesting how the MN dementors stick to their misery threads and don't tend to go on other more positive threads.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 20:50

I wonder if it might not prevent another infection but then having the virus also might not, but it could mean the next one is not as severe.

The previous post on the US vaccine said it produced antibodies but did it say that one has cause immunity?

theThreeofWeevils · 18/05/2020 20:53

my 14yo is becoming a Dementor sad When I told her the nice ice cream place has reopened she sniffed and said ‘how come it’s allowed? It’s not exactly essential, is it?’
Luckily ds2 said ‘yes it is! Of course ice cream is essential!'

Good lad! Two for him, and none for her. She can have an extra sardine, for the vitamin D.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 20:55

More on those two vaccines here www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52677203

@DominaShantotto
the older aren't automatically shielded my DF is 96 he has not had a shielding letter neither has my mum, he is elderly but doesn't have any conditions on shielding list, he did have a letter from his GP advising because of his age he is medically vulnerable but he did not have to shield but was advised to be extra cautious, my mother does the shopping in the elderly slots my dad stays at home or in the car, he does go for a walk but otherwise stays at home and potters in the greenhouse etc
The over 70's and the shielding actually have no more legal restrictions than the rest of us it is advise /guidance it is not the law
so encourage your elderly neighbour to go for a walk because even in the most vulnerable categories 80-85% recover

Re face masks

I have asthma and find them unbearable

So far, it seems a minority wear them in shops so hopefully I won’t get dementors but I carry my inhaler so can show them that.

littlbrowndog · 18/05/2020 21:07

Ta ver6 much to that YouTube. Link.

Omg. It’s great. Makes so much sense

I wish sturgeon would watch it instead of locking us up for longer

heroku · 18/05/2020 21:13

The latest from a school dementor family member... (This person is working class btw and is not sending their kids back "until at least September".)

Not caught up in the thread just yet, but this evening we (yes we: me and DH, but it was at 7 so not a busy time) popped to Tesco for some bits. One thing I noticed that not a single person wore a facemask. None of the shoppers or staff. Also DH said that the KFC had lights on. Wonder if they're going to open soon. Bloody hope so. I know they said they were going to open more, but I assumed none would be near me.

Daffodil101 · 18/05/2020 21:16

Christ.

I’m so annoyed that it becomes political in the end. Unions going against the government, how predicable. Would they have sided with a labour government if labour had found that - oh dear! The economy is fucked, we’d better crank it up!

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/05/2020 21:18

Our KFC is open. Promised the DC a drive thru at the weekend!

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 21:23

Heroku. So they are boasting about throwing away their children's education? Yes the impact of not being in school will hit the kids harder.
Confused It's quite sad really.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 21:26

We're not as polarised political as some countries (e.g. US)...across all of here apparently people are very much in favour of this lockdown..

HairyFloppins · 18/05/2020 21:33

I was one of the disgusting people that queued for KFC when it opened the other week. Killing people never tasted so good.

Burger King is open now near us now. Might pop out tomorrow for a whopper.

thesuninsagittarius · 18/05/2020 21:36

Most ridiculous things seen on my walk into the town centre today:

  1. A woman using one of those sleeping eye mask things as a face mask. Over her nose and mouth. It even had 'Shh I'm sleeping' written on it.
  2. The man sitting outside with a mask, pulling it down to have a cigarette and a good cough.
  3. A woman driving, alone in her car, wearing a mask so vast it almost covered her eyes as well. We all have different opinions with regard to what is 'safe' and I get that, I really do. I don't like masks, though I know some people find them reassuring. I just don't like anything over my face, it feels constrictive and makes me panic. But I did think WTAF.
BakewellTarts · 18/05/2020 21:41

I have a mask and I might wear it (not comfortable but I could live with it for the time it takes to go shopping) but it is performance safety without making much difference to R rates. I guess it will offer some protection to others.

heroku · 18/05/2020 21:42

It's quite sad really.

It's so sad because these kids are in very chaotic circumstances at the moment (I can't say too much for fear of being identified) and really do need to be in school. But this family member of mine is convinced that working class kids are being purposely sent into a dangerous environment to be used as guinea pigs.

This whole thing is such a mess.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 18/05/2020 21:42

See, I refuse to do performance safety. If it doesn't actually make a difference, then I am not going to do it.

RunningNinja79 · 18/05/2020 21:49

Killing people never tasted so good Finger licking good Grin

I had a quick scan on the KFC website, couldn't see which were open, but it did say that they were open for delivery. They didn't mention drive-thru. This worried me as we live too far from them to deliver (not for me to pick one up though), but if we can go to a drive thru then Im all up for it.

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 21:50

Sun “ A woman using one of those sleeping eye mask things as a face mask. Over her nose and mouth. It even had 'Shh I'm sleeping' written on it.”

If it had been legally mandated to wear a mask, I’d have been doing that. It covers nose and mouth and is adjustable. Can’t see the problem.

HairyFloppins · 18/05/2020 21:52

Limited menu though. They gave us the wrong order. I had a whole bucket full of goodies when I wanted just a boneless meal. Oh well Grin

MorrisZapp · 18/05/2020 21:54

Can anyone explain the working class kids thing? It's all kids or none, surely?
