Yes Morris but that's an inconvenient truth isn't it. The fact that my fairly middle class child is going to be back in the classroom as soon as they let her past the gates is an annoyingly accurate detail that must be ignored at all costs.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 18/05/2020 21:59

It's not mandatory to vaccine your kids against measles, which has a terrifying R rate, but they want to force everyone to wear a fucking mask.

RunningNinja79 · 18/05/2020 22:03

All is not lost. We are going to go out for the day on Saturday and come back via KFC, the website says they are open for delivery and drive thru so whoop whoop. Life has suddenly got better.

When the 6 O'clock news came on and mentioned about everyone over the age of 5 can be tested DD2 cried. Shes not been anywhere since school and has no symptoms, but she really doesnt want the test. Just hope she doesnt develop a cough.

Bollss · 18/05/2020 22:07

I think people think that working class kids are being thrown under the bus because Eton and the like aren't going back.

Actually the sad truth is poorer kids are being thrown under the bus because their parents are apparently less likely to send them back. They're also less likely to catch up and as I understand it kids in poverty typically don't have as good an outcome as those who don't grow up in poverty.

I wish that weren't true in this day and age.

Anyway I think half the issue is is that perhaps these parents aren't educated enough to weigh up the risks and are taking most of their advice from the front pages of left wing newspapers. I think a lot of them are just plain terrified too but if they were told the facts, just the facts, no hyperbole and a realistic view of how likely it is for their child to get Ill and die from this then I think we'd see less of the "my child isn't a guinea pig" bullshit that we have seen oh so much of recently.

I say that as someone who only has GCSE's, is usually left wing and probably classed as poor myself.

The thing is I want better for DS and in order for him to have that I need to work and therefore he needs to go to nursery which in turn will benefit him too.

userxx · 18/05/2020 22:10

Burger King is open now near us now.

Pure jealously is flowing through my veins right now.

I don't like kfc but loved seeing the local drive through busy yesterday. It feels like life is waking up.

Goodness me these threads move fast! Only just finished the last one

Place marking before this one ends Brew

Running “ When the 6 O'clock news came on and mentioned about everyone over the age of 5 can be tested DD2 cried. Shes not been anywhere since school and has no symptoms, but she really doesnt want the test. Just hope she doesnt develop a cough.”

She can be tested if she gets symptoms

That doesn’t means you’re obliged to test her, if you think she has a mild illness and just needs a few days in bed, do that.

ThatLibraryMiss · 18/05/2020 22:17

I hardly think you can call the Sun "left wing".

RunningNinja79 · 18/05/2020 22:19

Lilac
I think I would probably would do that TBH.

Disppointed now. No BK open near me or where we're going on Saturday.

HairyFloppins · 18/05/2020 22:19

Yes and there was no queue at BK. They kept the opening a secret.

Just need Maccies now and life is complete.

heroku · 18/05/2020 22:30

I think the person who shared the working class kids thing also thinks the only people going back to work right now are working class. And that all the middle class parents are WFH/furloughed and so will be able to keep their kids "safe at home". It's the same person who sent the Blackadder one about builders and factory workers being "sent over the top".

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 22:31

I want my library to open

Pertella · 18/05/2020 22:33

Any news on when Nandos is likely to reopen Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/05/2020 22:33

me too @lilactree

For both me and the kiddiewinks.

Ditto the swings and playparks - but mostly for me

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 22:39

Paul there’s a sign at my local park that adults can’t use the swings

I got made redundant just before lockdown and I did just go and use them. Got some funny looks but that was it. I was visibly tear stained though.

Bollss · 18/05/2020 22:45

I've engaged with school dementors again. They didn't sign up to teach knowing they could DIE you know.

I mean. I don't know how to break it to them that they could very well die on a normal day in a school...

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 18/05/2020 22:45

It's the same person who sent the Blackadder one about builders and factory workers being "sent over the top".

Pretty sure that's historically inaccurate too. Weren't death rates the highest among officers (usually young & posh and hopelessly out of their depth) in WW1?

MajesticWhine · 18/05/2020 22:47

I had a takeaway burger on Saturday night, then dropped it on the floor and DDog grabbed it. Saddest day of my life (nearly)

AgentCooper · 18/05/2020 22:47

@RunningNinja79 we had a KFC delivered on Saturday night and it was GORGEOUS.

RunningNinja79 · 18/05/2020 22:48

Was anyone in as much uproar about shops staying open as they are with schools? 2 months ago Asda, Tesco etc didn't have any PPE or things in place, yet I dont remember calls of shutting the supermarkets. Or is their union not as vocal as teacher unions?

justasking111 · 18/05/2020 22:51

We are all sick of cooking in this house. One chippy since lockdown, I really want a chinese OH says no way after what they did. He will not budge. I may have to get an indian for him and chinese for myself and DS. DS wants a Mcdonalds soooo badly.

ilovecardigans · 18/05/2020 22:52

Will we ever go back? Will we ever get our money back?

@NUFC69 oh my - I really do not know. They're talking about 2021 before there's any possibility of fans being able to go to games in Scotland. IMHO if everybody wears a mask and they limit entry to season ticket holders only, I don't see a problem - providing they seat fans in alternate seats (if that makes sense). The players seem very reluctant to play though...

RunningNinja79 · 18/05/2020 22:52

We had curry delivered on Saturday. We have lived here for 8 years and have only just been able to get food delivered (rural location). OK so it's from businesses that have just adapted to fit around COVID and are usually pubs/restaurants so lockdown has given me one thing.

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 22:53

Running well, there was a lot of dementoring about “necessary” shopping

Retail workers aren’t big on unions are they?

A new ice cream place opened in my area the week before lockdown.

They’re allowed to be open but the owner told me he’d had people come in and shout at him that he was “killing grannies”.

RunningNinja79 · 18/05/2020 22:55
