I think people think that working class kids are being thrown under the bus because Eton and the like aren't going back.
Actually the sad truth is poorer kids are being thrown under the bus because their parents are apparently less likely to send them back. They're also less likely to catch up and as I understand it kids in poverty typically don't have as good an outcome as those who don't grow up in poverty.
I wish that weren't true in this day and age.
Anyway I think half the issue is is that perhaps these parents aren't educated enough to weigh up the risks and are taking most of their advice from the front pages of left wing newspapers. I think a lot of them are just plain terrified too but if they were told the facts, just the facts, no hyperbole and a realistic view of how likely it is for their child to get Ill and die from this then I think we'd see less of the "my child isn't a guinea pig" bullshit that we have seen oh so much of recently.
I say that as someone who only has GCSE's, is usually left wing and probably classed as poor myself.
The thing is I want better for DS and in order for him to have that I need to work and therefore he needs to go to nursery which in turn will benefit him too.
