Mine is Sandie Shaw. I can't believe it had never occurred to me until tonight that her name is a play on Sandy Shore.

i always remember thinking hawaii wa just off the coast till i flew there-5 hours from la!

totallyyesno · 15/05/2020 16:29

I knew where Hawaii was but for a long time I thought that when you looked at a flat map with the UK in the centre, the Philippines were just off to the right hand side of the map - or just off to the left on the other side. Basically they weren't on the map at all but on a mythical part of the map that only existed in my brain.

I can locate them now!

AppleJane · 15/05/2020 17:48

@sueelleker
Wow, I didn't know you could grow them in the uk!

That's a great link. I'm new to veg growing this year so a bit ambitious yet but if all goes well one for the future!

AppleJane · 15/05/2020 17:53

Schaden you're not alone! I found out about 6 months ago while looking at soap making videos and was totally gobsmacked.

I immediately asked everyone 'where do loofahs come from' and everyone said from the sea Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/05/2020 19:42

Apple

That's such a comfort - to know that I am not alone. Grin

Just found out today from my mum (who also just found out today) that Jeremy Vine and Tim Vine are brothers!!! Who knew? 😯

ememem84 · 15/05/2020 21:44

I found out today that I should be able to grow a pineapple from a pineapple stalk. I needed something to do with ds (2.5) so we planted our pineapple’s “hair”. Apparently 2 years and it should fruit. Maybe.

Just had my own "I'm an idiot" moment

Watching "devils advocate" on prime, one of my favourite films, I'm also an English graduate...

Go to look up the film on wiki which is something I do in recent years love learning the fun facts about my favourite films/shows...

First saw this film probably around 98/99 so over 20 years ago...

And I've JUST learned what I should have bloody noticed - Pacinos character John Milton - the same as the author of paradise lost!

D'oh!

Nicknamegoeshere · 18/05/2020 14:16

That when you're pregnant and they listen in to baby, it is super loud for baby and they don't usually like it at all (hence the kicking!) My midwife showed me today by putting the doppler receiver in a sink of water. My poor bubba!!!

I'm having a home birth with an Independent Midwife (38 weeks now) and will allow mw to listen in, but only when she deems it necessary.

Just remembered on I discovered a while back; if you click on the dinasour in the "No internet" page, you can play a game. (That jump over things type of game.)

HorseRadishFemish · 03/06/2020 11:56

I was amazed to discover that pearl harbour was not on mainland USA.

HorseRadishFemish · 03/06/2020 12:07

I only discovered recently that if you're driving a car your not used to and want to know which side of the car the fuel tank opening is - it tells you on the fuel gage! Of course you have to know what to look for..

HorseRadishFemish · 03/06/2020 12:08

You're not your. Aaaargh!

Megatron · 03/06/2020 12:12

I'm 53 and thought Barnstaple was in Yorkshire until about a fortnight ago. I still think it should be in Yorkshire because it sounds like it should. Grin

Oh! That would have been handy to know whilst two days of twiddling our thumbs at work!!!!

Dandelions again! My nan told me when they were yellow the sun ,white the moon and when you blew them the stars.

This and the babygro shoulder opening thing should win prizes for the number of times they get breathlessly repeated on threads like these across the internet.

And equally amazing given the car one isn't even true. (It might be by simple coincidence but it's not a global rule all car manufacturers decided!)

BlackWhitePurple · 03/06/2020 19:03

@BuzzShitbagBobbly it's true if the OP is referring to the little arrow on the fuel gauge. Not true if it's the old "the fuel gauge needle points to the side the petrol cap is at" thing.

SueblueNZ · 04/06/2020 06:39

That the dishwasher I have used for five years has a high shallow pull-out tray for long items of cutlery like sharp knives. It was a revelation.

BeardofHagrid · 14/06/2024 16:30

I had one yesterday (ooh, naughty!)

It suddenly came into my head that strawberries are called that because you put straw round the plants to aid the growing fruits! Quite literally straw berries.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I had never thought about it before 🤣

vipersnest1 · 14/06/2024 21:06

Following on from the cow thing, horses will happily visit each other's stables if they have a communal area they can use to get to each other. My friend keeps his horses like this when they aren't out in the field.

To be fair, I am in Yorkshire and have been to Barnstaple a few times, so I know it's in Devon, but I always think that Pontefract should be in S Wales. Even though it's less than 20 miles from home!

Gingernaut · 15/06/2024 15:37

The River Dee is NOT in Scotland

It winds it's way back and forth across the Welsh-Englsh border

To me, it SOUNDS Scottish, why isn't it in Scotland??
