Mine is Sandie Shaw. I can't believe it had never occurred to me until tonight that her name is a play on Sandy Shore.

When I was a kid I used to really like the cold meat tung..... Didn't really think what it was until I read it was actually tongue!!! 😳

BlossomingTulip · 12/05/2020 23:03

@TheNightKing: thanks for clarifying. It does make sense!!!!

Maisy24 · 12/05/2020 23:54

That cows are constantly impregnated to produce milk and they don't just naturally produce it. Very sad when I found out.

RapunzelinQuarantine · 13/05/2020 03:09

Need toKnow - where I'm from, shore could even be described as having two syllables. Sho-ar.

That reminds me of a New England accent!

Wallywobbles · 13/05/2020 03:50

@Twospaniels what bread of chicken are they?

nzeire · 13/05/2020 04:02

Also wondered why so many lads in the army were called lance.

I joked with someone a while ago that I wasn’t sure whether it was the rock or dwayne johnson in a movie I’d watched. Said how similar they looked.

They didn’t get the joke. Looked up said movie. Told me that the rock had only been in a couple of films so it was definetly dwayne johnson id been watching.

I only found out about the dandelion thing when DS was watching Bing! Blush

Dartboards are made out of horse hairs.

@Wallywobbles
I have one lincolnshire buff, then there is one hybrid hatched from a linc buff egg.
I have another hybrid hatched from an ex ‘battery hen’ egg.
Then my other 3 who I just got last summer are white Sussex.

Used to have marans and they were not friendly at all
Also had large brown brahmas were so tame. When my kids were little they used to put them in a dolls pram and wheel them around the garden!

For a long time as a child I was convinced that meringue was pronounced as it's spelt with "gyoo" on the end, and that it was a type of fish.

AppleJane · 13/05/2020 08:42

The perforated holes on the end of the box holding the aluminium foil is for you to poke through so the roll doesn't fall out when you pull it.

AppleJane · 13/05/2020 08:44

My hens don't have a top to bottom pecking order. They have a one on one order and some are above those who are above ones they are below.

Rhodri · 13/05/2020 09:00

I still find it confusing that Meringue = Mah-rang but Merengue = Meh-reng-gay.

I remember going to Austria skiing and waiting to get served and my dad said there's a lot of Peters here, it must be a popular Austrian name. He realised afterwards that the waitress wasn't calling people forward for their order by their name, she was saying 'bitte', meaning please but it did sound like Peter!

ivykaty44 · 13/05/2020 11:11

I went to Australia one January many years ago, flew from Gatwick and thought there were a lot of people going fishing. I wasn't until later when I mentioned it to my dp that he said no the long cases where for skis not fishing rods...

DadDadDad · 13/05/2020 11:18

@ivykaty44 - hang on, people were going skiing in Australia in the middle of their summer? I'm guessing that's an auto-correct for Austria.

Cruddles · 13/05/2020 11:49

Is this the Australia snow thing again?

Ninkanink · 13/05/2020 11:56

There are mountains in Australia where you do get snow and people go skiing there.

But not in January! Also, you would have to pretty keen to fly to Australia from Europe for a skiing holiday. I suspect auto-correct from Austria as well.

user1495884620 · 13/05/2020 12:05

Although, it doesn't say that the people with long cases were on the same flight so they could have been flying to Australia and seeing lots of other people taking flights to other ski destinations.

Ninkanink · 13/05/2020 12:08
  • oh I wasn’t commenting on any particular story (haven’t read back through last page), just commenting that you do get snow in Australia, and people do go skiing. 🙂

There is permanent snow in Australia in the aptly named 'Snowy Mountains'! However, as you say you would have to be pretty keen to go to Oz from England for skiing in January when there is shitloads of snow relatively on your doorstep!

ivykaty44 · 13/05/2020 12:23

I was flying to Australia, other people at Gatwick weren’t all coming to Australia with me 🤣 They were going to skiing destinations - but there were many people at the airport going of to skiing holidays
I actually flew to LA on the first leg of the trip, there weren’t direct flights to Australia back then (long time ago was mid 80s)

DadDadDad · 13/05/2020 12:26

Also, do flights to Australia go from Gatwick? I always associate long haul with Heathrow.
