I think they might go back sharpish and then turn their vitriol on the genuinely shielded.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:02

Good to see a compassionate piece in the newspaper today on young people being affected most by the lockdown. Note the comment on the picture is not a nasty blaming type one, but on how badly they are being affected mentally.

Also about how they are dressing up as a tree to escape which has been passed around on Ticktok, and how the middle aged have found the lockdown much less hard

Apparently the new message is to be “stay alert, save lives”. dropping the 'stay safe' message.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:03

turn their vitriol on the genuinely shielded.- or the elderly perhaps?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/05/2020 08:03

The dementors are going to FREAK out that "stay home" is being dropped! Their precious mantra of "stay the fck at home" is in danger- expect an outpouring of anger and enough froth to have an Ibiza foam party

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 08:04

Yeah, ‘stay the fuck alert’ doesn’t have quite the same ring!

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 08:05

I base this on the fact they seem quite sheep like in their desire to follow any old pish they are fed by the Government.

It's more herd stupidity than herd immunity.

  • I am grumpy as I've stupidly looked at some really dementory threads 😃
AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/05/2020 08:05

Yeah, ‘stay the fuck alert’ doesn’t have quite the same ring

hahaha! very true

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:06

The picture is of London, Hackney Marshes, looks nice doesn't it? I wish we had a swimming spot nearby. We are meant to be having a lido opening soon wonder what will happen with that

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:07

Interesting they have stopped the stay safe bit as up to today I saw in the Times it was meant to be changed to 'stay safe save lives'

Elmerrrrrrrr · 10/05/2020 08:07

Brilliant thread. Thanks all. I'm taking my 3 year old to stay at my mums (25 minute drive) next week. I've had enough. We have all been isolating since lockdown and we are trapped in a tiny flat with no garden. She has a big house and garden. Will be so beneficial for DS.

MsTSwift · 10/05/2020 08:09

A school mum has posted a link to the DM headline with a good rant about COVIDIOTS. When I look at the pictures I see perfectly reasonable people being in a park in London.

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 08:09

@Orangeblossom78 I'm glad to hear that. I'm actually amazed how well the youngsters are sticking to it. I keep thinking how terrible it must be for them.. though at least they
have sm. When I was that age I cannot even imagine the horror of being trapped at home.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:09

More on the alert message here

The Government’s new slogan for the next phase in the fight against coronavirus has drawn a lot of scorn, and a certain amount of praise.

After the successful bluntness of the shutdown message of “stay at home, save lives, protect the NHS”, Britons are now set to be asked to “stay alert, control the virus, save lives”.

Top-selling Harry Potter author JK Rowling immediately hit out by saying: “Is Coronavirus sneaking around in a fake moustache and glasses? If we drop our guard, will it slip us a Micky Finn? What the hell is ‘stay alert’ supposed to mean?”

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 08:11

😂 to the sneaky virus

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:11

Andy Burnham, the Labour Mayor of Greater Manchester, tweeted that it “feels to me like a mistake to me to drop the clear” stay at home message.

Umm does he want people to stay in forever?

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:12

Yes they are not going to like it! But I have read it is because they are worried people are too scared to go out, feeling unsafe. It is not good psychologically and the gov realise that people need to start living with the virus now and they need to gently encourage people outside the risk being lower in the open air.

Bollss · 10/05/2020 08:12

@Elmerrrrrrrr was it you that had the thread about wondering if you could or should go to your mum's? If it was I am so glad you've made the decision to go!! Flowers

HauntedGoatFart · 10/05/2020 08:14

I think the switch to "stay alert" and a colour code system is a good idea, at least for now. There, I said it Grin the Dementors need a step by step bridge back to sanity and I think slowly accustoming them to the idea we're no longer at "nuclear" should help. I feel sorry for them nearly as much as frustrated - they're so lost.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:15

"There was praise for the new message from the Bruges Group think tank.

In a tweet, it stated: “The Government’s new slogan is good. Green replaces red for a calmer feel. ‘Stay Alert’ replaces ‘Stay Home’ and underlines individual responsibility. ‘Control the Virus’ is a positive message. It’s within our power to achieve.”

Not quite sure who this is, but good to see a range of opinions.

Bollss · 10/05/2020 08:15

I'm actually really glad they've dropped the stay home message.

What is the mayor of greater Manchester expecting? Does he think if we all stay home indefinitely it will just die off?

This has highlighted to me that a lot of people are a lot less intelligent than I had previously given them credit for.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 10/05/2020 08:15

TrustTheGeneGenie

Yes it was me :)

Bollss · 10/05/2020 08:16

Ah well I hope you have a lovely time with your mum! I'm sure it will make you all feel better.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/05/2020 08:17

I'm actually really glad they've dropped the stay home message

Me too! So many people now seem to be under the false impression that staying home is to eradicate the virus. That was never the point of staying home but I guess people just interpreted it as they wanted to. Thank goodness that bit is going

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:17

I agree on the personal responsibility and the calmer feel and also being less stressed about going out. I met lady nearby who has severe MH condition yesterday who is too worried to even go in our garden and who told me she had someone shout at her in the street. Maybe it will help some people feel a bit more confident, and yes that we all need to stay alert and look after ourselves a bit more rather than focusing on others all the time.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 08:18

Yes, the ‘stay home’ message had to go.
