I've just spoken to DS's teacher and she sounded pretty enthusiastic about starting again (although I'm sure she would have been far too professional to say otherwise!). The school is part of a pretty big and influential academy chain so, rightly or wrongly, I'd imagine they'll be throwing their weight behind getting the teachers back in.

Absolutely

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/05/2020 16:23

SomewhereEast - I have been baffled by some of what the teaching unions have said and I'm a teacher.

The teachers should not be routinely marking work thing was what I can't really get my head round. So kids go for weeks and months with no feedback?

BogRollBOGOF · 11/05/2020 16:23

There are a lot of Boggarts out there, selecting their argument for maximum terror. They can't face a full thread of the Anti-Dementor Alliance though, it confuses them too much. Wink

SpratsOnParade · 11/05/2020 16:25

Fuck me. Doesn't it occur to people that we "play" with death every day? Whether we stay indoors or go outside. The threat of it is always present because almost anything can kill you, but that's life. Living involves risk. Do these idiots really think that the world was a safe place before the virus appeared?

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/05/2020 16:28

Hahahaha bigbananafeet12 that is amazing.

rosettesforjill · 11/05/2020 16:29

@bigbananafeet12 🙄 are people sharing that to make a serious point? My sister probably had it (non NHS key worker but before testing for all came in) and she felt rough but really no worse than mild flu. So her brush with death was disappointingly non dramatic.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 16:32

Shops (boohoo?) have been trying doing things like masks with 'eat, sleep, self-isolate, repeat' on them but have had to 'backtrack because of a backlash' apparently Grin

Cattermole · 11/05/2020 16:33

I don't want to play with his fools! is that a euphemism??? (I bet they're all cold and sweaty...)

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 16:35

Our primary is good with things like forest school and outdoor play so hoping they will have yr 6 in the big playground and yr1/R in the little one for lots of outdoor play in the summer, particularly now the outdoors is such an emphasis..

They sent an email saying they will prioritise the children's wellbeing and health and are working on a plan. Fingers crossed.

Shodan · 11/05/2020 16:46

I noticed that there was no mention of years 7 to 9 at all (again).

It's like they've all ceased to exist as far as the government is concerned. Poor ds2. His school doesn't do any Team teaching, just an endless succession of 'homework'.

DressingGownofDoom · 11/05/2020 16:49

'The only reason he is still alive is cos the patio cost us a bomb to get built and I don't want to ruin it.'

Life insurance payout? Wink

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 16:56

Yes, or year 10 who have GCSEs coming up. I've one of those too. Tricky. Something about catching up with teachers before the summer. Hmm

DominaShantotto · 11/05/2020 16:57

Yeah @Shodan there are huge swathes of kids they've just washed their hands of completely. If you've got a good school that are trying to engage the kids - fine, but not all schools are. If she could do, I swear our Head would have installed a moat, drawbridge and man eating crocodiles to keep the kids and parents away

TinRoofRusty · 11/05/2020 16:58

Self-catering holidays the last week in August require masks and gloves, bringing all your own food and strict social distancing. But apparently driving there in your car is a totally acceptable risk.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 11/05/2020 16:58

Our head has just messaged all to say can anyone make masks? Oh gawd. Wonder if it’ll be compulsory in school.
Can I get one printed with ‘my mum went to Italy and all she bought me was this stupid mask’

DominaShantotto · 11/05/2020 17:00

If schools make masks compulsory it'll be exclusion of kids with special needs who can't cope with wearing them. Wide open to being legally completely dismembered (and quite possibly physically if she crosses me at the moment over DD2's needs)

TheGreatWave · 11/05/2020 17:01

rosettes I've possibly had it too (though negative test, but that is a whole other topic of conversation) if it was, it too was fairly uneventful.

TinRoofRusty · 11/05/2020 17:02

Another holiday thread's gone full Dementor! The government will imprison people for quarantine. Staying in a self-catering place is dicing with death (again, driving to it across the country is entirely risk free).

WinterAndRoughWeather · 11/05/2020 17:06

I live in Portugal and it’s generally not too hysterical here, lockdown started to ease last week, infection and death rates aren’t too bad.

Masks are now compulsory in shops and on public transport which, fine, whatever. I am a bit sceptical of them, only because everyone now seems to be acting like the mask is a force field and aren’t properly distancing anymore. But from speaking to friends in the UK it sounds like we have a few simple rules that people and businesses are calmly following, so maybe that’s why it all feels quite relaxed.

Is it bad though that I sometimes affect a bit of dementorism to get out of irksome social commitments?

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 11/05/2020 17:11

To clarify, the masks are just for the adults at the mo. Not that that’s any better as a)you are talking to children who need to see your mouth a lot of the time b) it stops us giving it to them doesn’t it? Not very likely at all.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 17:30

Now they are being cross that the furlough scheme is going on to September but it was originally meant to be until June. However this is being seen as a negative as it is getting less as time goes on. I thought would be glad for it continuing and not just cut off but no.

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 17:33

I think the mask thing is just a sop to the public as, bizarrely, people seem to want them 🤷‍♀️

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 17:34

I will obviously be wearing a Maskotte
