Good luck jourdain. You have a lot of MNers rooting for you, if that's any help.

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 08:52

@Jourdain11 all the best.

We shall report the best dementor shit upon your return😃

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 08:53

Best wishes for the chemo treatment, my niece is also having that atm, it has been changed but due to treatment plans now I heard, not this and onto a new one now. they have a new entrance and area for the covid patients now too apparently. DH is on immunosuppressants but is going back to work this week and DCs as soon as school opens, we have decided just have to decide for yourselves about the risk really don't we. That is ok as comes in a refrigerated delivery van blood tests not so sure but will see

DominaShantotto · 10/05/2020 08:56

Good luck @Jourdain11! We shall fight the dark forces in your absence

rosettesforjill · 10/05/2020 08:56

May I join you? I am SO happy to have found this thread. I feel lost even among my own friends in saying that I think Nicola Sturgeon is a miserable git and that I will be sending my children back to school/nursery the second I'm allowed to. I know, I'm a selfish horrible person Confused

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 10/05/2020 08:56

Good morning all! These threads are helping me so much - I'm afraid you're stuck with me now Smile I am in awe of, and inspired by, the common sense and strength on here. Thankyou all so much. I've gone from being scared to look at Fb to laughing at it.

Can I have an Aardark as my patronus, please? I met some once, and they were awesome - as their keeper was saying, "they're mostly nocturnal, so they probably won't react to you much," one tottered across to me and fell asleep on my leg!

Early on in this whole debacle, a couple of friends (who I thought knew better) shared some "information" with me that was supposed to have been shared over dinner by a friend of an eminent disease specialist in China. The main point of it was that the virus lives in the back of your throat for 3 days then turns into a liquid, runs into your lungs and THAT'S how it causes pneumonia, but that this could be avoided by drinking lots of hot fluids Hmm

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 08:57

At my hospital - and it is a big London one - the Covid-19 patients are in a entirely different building. I'm surprised they don't have a Plague cross on the door and a sign saying, Unclean! 😃

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 09:01

Not read these threads before, very funny.

Completely preening that I knew that print was by Odilon Redon.

As you were, dementors!

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/05/2020 09:02

Interesting article here, not sure if it's been shared already www.spectator.co.uk/article/ten-reasons-to-end-the-lockdown-now

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:02

@rosettesforjill (cute username - DD1 has just discovered these books and is loving them!) I'm also sick of Nicola Sturgeon and I don't even live in Scotland. She just seems like she always has to know better, or that Scotland needs to be different! Also, is it just me or is her accent a tiny bit contrived? I kind of imagine her having fortnightly Accent Camp for the SNP MPs: "Davey, you need to come up tae the accent class, you're no sounding Scottish enough!"

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 10/05/2020 09:04

I cross posted with @Jourdain11 (God this thread moves fast!) Good luck, I will be thinking about you - looking forward to seeing you back here Flowers

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:07

@Zoidbergonthehalfshell Thank you! I hope it is all going to go to plan and I'll be back soon.

rosettesforjill · 10/05/2020 09:09

@Jourdain11 haha! I know what you mean Grin

I forgot to add that I have a holiday booked for August which if allowed, I will be going on, quarantine or no quarantine

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/05/2020 09:12

@AnxiousElephant77

Great article, I totally agree with it.

The mutation paranoia is interesting too. All viruses mutate as a matter of course, thats natural for them. They constantly make photocopies of themselves and they dont check the copies for errors, so any errors or changes in the copies just get copied again and again and so on. This isnt a process they do on purpose to become more deadly- its simply how they replicate.
Thats not always a bad thing- mutations arent always beneficial to viruses. The HIV virus for example has mutated so much it has become less deadly and less infectious its become slower and less aggressive due to its mutations. Theres every chance this could happen with covid too- it replicates a mistake and BOOM- its less dangerous

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:13

It's a bit annoying that Scotland seems to set a precedent by announcing things first and then getting cross if the rest of the country don't follow..

Bollss · 10/05/2020 09:13

Yes I'm sure I've read somewhere that it's much more likely for it to mutate and become less dangerous as opposed to mutating and becoming more dangerous.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:14

I read a good article by the team working on the Oxford vaccine saying it is very stable (covid) and unlikely to mutate to a more severe form. Just what I read don't want to be spreading the wrong info, but that was from that team anyway.

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 09:16

@Jourdain11 and @rosettesforjill I'm Scottish and find all the "couthy" Scottish speaking so irritating. It's like a fucking caricature.

Bollss · 10/05/2020 09:17

I get the impression that Nicola Sturgeon is almost trying to one up Boris. She's going for the look how much more responsible I am than him. Look how much I care about Scottish people.

I mean she may well do, but measures will have to be released at some point won't they?

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:18

Also the dementors love to talk about Spanish flu which was very different mainly killing the younger people with strong immune systems, rather than the old. Lots of children died sadly..

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/05/2020 09:19

Thats a really good article @AnxiousElephant77.
Thank you for sharing. I particularly like the quote "No country has ever improved the health of its population by making itself poorer"

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:20

I'm also Scottish originally and finding my family there annoying - they keep saying it's not up there and 'down south' whilst also being a bit dementory as well. Keep saying they have lower population density while having much higher figures, while in the SW we seem to have missed it so far. Not discussing it with them anymore!

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:21

Okay! I'm not even a native English speaker so I don't really feel qualified to give my opinion - but it just seems a bit put-on. "Well, look, I want an independent Scotland, I'm no gonnie lie". It's the same as Macron's trendy slang, which just makes me uuuuuurgh.

Just watching the Marr Show. Some headteacher has written an article saying kids should be 6 to a classroom?!

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 09:22

A lot of people here like to see her being different from Boris. There is also a real nanny state culture here with peculiar initiatives like the thankfully abortive named person scheme. The worst one is that we can't get the bulk buy drink discounts you can get in England 😂

PineappleDanish · 10/05/2020 09:22

I get the impression that Nicola Sturgeon is almost trying to one up Boris. She's going for the look how much more responsible I am than him. Look how much I care about Scottish people.

I'm Scottish. Of COURSE this is what she's doing. She hates Boris. She hates Tories. She hates the fact that although she has power over things like Health and Education, Westminster is still (as she sees it) making decisions for Scotland. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have been pretty much in step with England so far but she is itching to do something different.

Having Scotland doing the same thing as everyone else does not play well into her long game message of "we;re different, we're special, we think differently, we need independence".
