Morning all. Bloody hell I turn my back for a few hours and come back to not just a new thread but a whole 11 pages of a new thread. Good vibes to you Jourdain11 for today.

I'm off to look at what the dementors are up to today. If I don't make it back, remember me fondly.

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:24

@PineappleDanish But which powers aren't devolved? Foreign Affairs and Defence? Not much else, surely?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/05/2020 09:25

@Orangeblossom78, God yes the Spanish flu.....
They cant seem to comprehend that an understanding of virology and epidemiology was near non existent just over 100 years ago, that a transient post war population, displaced people trying to get home, no health service and basic medical care would all have had an impact on the spanish flu.
But no, covid is exactly the same.

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/05/2020 09:25

The person I know who shared that article on FB is being mauled by the dementors. It's just bizarre that people refuse to see a different point of view. I don't understand it, what the hell do they want, everyone to stay in forever? How is that even a thing? What is wrong with everyone??

TitianaTitsling · 10/05/2020 09:26

@Jourdain11 it's a weird accent many seem to put on when on tv- just watch River City or Ballymoney, I don't know anyone in real life that talks like that and l've lived east and west coasts and central belt!

doughnuthole · 10/05/2020 09:26

@jourdain11 delurking to say you've got the wee Nippy Sweetie nailed. One of my friends pointed out it's like when you're wee and you've been grounded by your Mum but your Dad says "I think you've learned your lesson you can go to the park" and your Mum's frothing behind him "I don't think so why am I even bothering, trust me I know best, you'll regret this when she goes off the rails". If you haven't seen any of comedian Janey Godley's work dubbing NS's speeches they are definitely worth a look.
And my patronus is my cocker spaniel who we are using for hugs by proxy. He delivered birthday hugs to my friend last week, nearly knocked her off her feet with enthusiasm while we stood at the end of the drive.

TheGreatWave · 10/05/2020 09:27

but that this could be avoided by drinking lots of hot fluids

Early on, I read a very sad post on FB where a Mum had heard this and was desperately trying to get her autistic child, who had food issues, to drink hot drinks. The child, understandably, was refusing and the poor Mum was so stressed and wanted tips on how to get her to drink something.

Posts like this (the original, not worried Mum) are so so dangerous, but people don't think and just hit share.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:29

The Scottish situation seems to be showing up the levels of deprivation in some areas, the worst hit is Greenock for example, also there are high levels in care homes, it's not great is it. Though they try and make out doing a much better job.

Wonder if the pubs shutting might help with the high alcohol abuse levels though, not sure.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/05/2020 09:30

I blame the media. They've whipped everyone up into a terrified frenzy. Now the media want to encourage back to work and they seem baffled why everyone is so scared. Well duh! youve spent weeks headlining the rarest of covid cases (such as young people dying) and presenting it as if its happening everywhere. It isnt.

I remember one story about a young person "dying of covid" and right at the bottom of the article it said in tiny print, "the cause of death was a genetic disease she had from birth" So, this young person died of an illness unrelated to covid, yet she when she died she had covid. Dying with covid and dying OF covid are two entirely different things yet the papers do this to get more readers. Its gross.

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:31

@doughnuthole Yes! They are hilarious.

Also, who is cutting her hair??

Right, I need to get ready and pack up some stuff, so I'm going to say bye for now! Stay safe from those dementors...

PineappleDanish · 10/05/2020 09:32

Reserved policies are things like defence, foreign policy, benefits, immigration, trade and industry. Boris could say, for example, 14 days quarantine for anyone arriving in a UK airport and she couldn't overrule that. The furlough payments are a UK scheme.

Bluebelltulip · 10/05/2020 09:32

What a lovely refreshing thread. I'm choosing a heffalump as my patronous big and scary but cuddly once you meet them.

I do find frustrating the amount of people being very preachy without understanding what is trying to be achieved.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:33

Just a thought with the new advice on recommending face coverings do you think dementors will start attacking those not wearing one in shops / public transport? I hope not...

Orangeblossom78 · 10/05/2020 09:34

Worst one I saw was reporting a young person dying of Covid and really they were on the waiting list for an organ transpant (delayed due to covid) and died of that

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 09:34

Yes, sadly I think that will be the case Orangeblossom78

TheGreatWave · 10/05/2020 09:35

Jourdain All the best,

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:36

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter ... just to say I totally agree! I read at the beginning about a guy in his 40s who had died, who had end-stage Motor Neurone. I don't think you could really say that he died of Covid-19, it just happened to be that which finally caused his death Confused

Theluggage15 · 10/05/2020 09:37

Good luck Jourdain!
I was just looking at a thread about the stay home message being dropped and someone was moaning ‘well, they just want to get their economy back’ I have stopped myself from replying!

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 09:38

That's a good article. I'm far too scared to share it irl. Which makes me a bit sad.

I did try to say that neatly everyone survives last night to correct the stupid meme thing but that's been ignored 😃

Topseyt · 10/05/2020 09:43

Jourdain11, I wish you all the best too.

Stopmenow123 · 10/05/2020 09:44

Just saw a great post in response to someone saying they support people demonstrating against lockdown in Germany.

"In many cases those demonstraters will be lying down gasping for air" Grin

Bollss · 10/05/2020 09:45

Dying with covid and dying OF covid are two entirely different things yet the papers do this to get more readers. Its gross

Indeed they are and I think (please do correct me if I am wrong) everyone who has died with covid has been recorded in the figures.

I would be really interested to know, though I assume it's impossible to find out, who died OF IT, who died as a result of catching it and it sort of tipped their underlying condition over the edge, who died of something else entirely but just tested positive for it?

For instance are you recorded in the figures if you died in a car crash but say had tested positive for it a few days before?

I have seen a lot of FB shit about people's relatives dying from other conditions and having their deaths recorded as covid and because it's FB shit I mostly disregard it but I find it a little suspicious that so many people are claiming it has happened to them.

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/05/2020 09:46

A dementor has just put on her FB something akin to 'Remember, if Boris lifts any restrictions today it's because he has space for you in ICU'.

Unfollowed. Moron.

GoldenOmber · 10/05/2020 09:46

It's just bizarre that people refuse to see a different point of view. I don't understand it, what the hell do they want, everyone to stay in forever? How is that even a thing?

Well personally I want the lockdown to continue until we have the test and trace system up and running so we can keep suppressing the virus with that instead of with this misery, and not a minute longer. Then gradually returning life much closer to normal as other countries are managing. It is a bit surreal hearing people on here saying that we'll be in lockdown FOREVER when my relatives in China are out at the gym again.

Jourdain11 · 10/05/2020 09:47

Do you know that in Germany they don't count it as a Covid-19 death if the person was in the late stages of a terminal illness? I'm amazed no one mentions this.
