Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

Apparently the new 'message' is going to be Stay Safe Save Lives, instead of Stay Home Save Lives. Read today in the Times. Hmm

OutwardBound2016 · 07/05/2020 09:43

Body bags? So the children of key workers are ok to do this then?

Ijustcalled · 07/05/2020 09:45

I’m in Scotland where its been hinted we will be staying at this level of lockdown for longer than England. Will be interesting to see how the dementors behaviour either side of border differs as a result.

Mascotte · 07/05/2020 09:45

@ThatLibraryMiss love the bingo card- good work.

It's actually making me enjoy dementor threads rather than get annoyed.

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/05/2020 09:47

I'm still collection suggestions for the bingo card btw. It's getting to be a rather large card! I think I'll list them all tomorrow evening and we can vote for them over the weekend, and I'll produce the definitive card on Monday. If I can get a square number - 25, 36 or 49 - we can try to get lines, columns or diagonals from a single thread.

Oh.. this insidious dementor thing popped up on sm today from someone I had thought might be a prospective friend:

Dementors Begone!
Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/05/2020 09:50

Body bags. Hmm

Plenty of keyworker children have been attending school this entire time and there are hardly any child fatalities. Last I checked, the number of fatalities for under 20s was 9 in this country. Any deaths are a tragedy of course, but let's assess the risk realistically before coming out with dramatics.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/05/2020 09:52

I've just flipped over to Jeremy Vine and saw this quote on my TV screen.

"Medically vulnerable people like me need to take extra special precautions next week if other brave or foolhardy people are now going to take risks with their health to earn a crust."

For goodness sake.

iamapixie · 07/05/2020 09:56

Thank you for the sanity.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 07/05/2020 09:58

This thread is going to get me through today :)

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 10:03

Mascotte that's a cringy one isn't it, kind of self improving style/ virtuous / guilt inducing at the same time! I'm so glad I deleted Facebook.

BarkandCheese · 07/05/2020 10:03

I think wrt schools at lot of people are going to change their tune once they go back. People, especially dementor types, hate the idea of others having something they don’t have. Once they see the children who have gone back being given lessons and having fun with friends they’ll be sending their children in.

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 10:04

Medically vulnerable people need to take extra special precautions anyway Confused

I'm fed up of people on Facebook almost celebrating the death rate overtaking Italy's to justify their doom laden narrative and keeping us all locked up for evermore. I agree it's awful etc but they don't want to look at deaths per million of population, possible inconsistencies of reporting, what the longer term pictures may be, or anything rational like that. I had to step away from Facebook yesterday.

Dialdownthedrama · 07/05/2020 10:13

Yes, I was shocked to see the body bags comment. I was expecting all the others 'well, if you're happy to put your children at risk go ahead...' (yawn) but body bags was beyond the pale.

For the bingo card: 'if everyone did that..' should go on. People refusing to see very individual circumstances may need an individual approach but instead decide that if one person does it, suddenly EVERYONE will and then cause widespread deaths.

Can I go round to see my friend who's suicidal? We'll sit 2m away from each other in the garden and we both live alone and have been isolating for weeks.

NO! If everyone did that....

Arcadia · 07/05/2020 10:14

BBC article is a bit hypocritical given their dramatic style of reporting!

@DominaShantotto I hope school goes okay for your DD, mine is starting back for two days next week, we're excited!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/05/2020 10:15

Arcadia and what people also don't seem to understand is that the new deaths reported are not all deaths that occurred on that day. I'm seeing "600 deaths yesterday and people want lockdown lifted" but we didn't actually have 600 deaths yesterday, some of them are from April and even March.

IKEA is planning to reopen some stores soon....the dementors will have a field day frothing at the prospect
Remind them that IKEA had a one way system years before Tesco did, so they are well ahead of the (flattened) curve.
Confound them by mentioning that IKEA is Swedish so rules don't apply.
Settle any dissent by saying "meatballs"

Willitneverend · 07/05/2020 10:20

@Ijustcalled I'm the same. I'm really down about it. Apparently the theory is we'll avoid a second spike while the death count rockets again in England. I really hope not though our government seems distinctly more dementor-ish.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 07/05/2020 10:21

Morning all.

NamechangeOnceMore · 07/05/2020 10:21

This thread is hilarious! I have found my people!

When NICE decide whether a medical treatment should be funded by the NHS, they look at cost per QALY: essentially, a measure of how much it costs to give a person an additional year of reasonable-quality life. I'd love to know what the cost per QALY of lockdown is. (I hope that doesn't make me an Economic Dementor.)

That BBC article is excellent. Young, healthy people have completely lost sight of the actual risk to themselves and their children.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/05/2020 10:24

Actually the body bags for school isn't such a bad idea for when DS comes out in a stinking mood. Zip him in, heft him over my shoulder and fireman's lift him home. Grin
