Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

@CaliforniaMountainSnake I think he'd be bloody unlucky to kill two people out of 26 unless he's actually targeting care homes

Jourdain11 · 09/05/2020 18:33

About school as well... I do feel for kids having their normality eroded like this. My three are missing their friends and normality - I'm more worries about that than the education aspect, since they're Years 3, 2 and Reception. I felt super guilty for being sick when everything else in their lives has gone upside down too. Still do feel guilty, actually!

heroku · 09/05/2020 18:33

But I can't see how you would infect many people outside of your family group

I guess if you're touching your nose/mouth and then touching other things (e.g. doors/trolley handles) you could pass it on. But I agree it's not like you're roaming around infecting everyone in a 2 metre radius of you.

theThreeofWeevils · 09/05/2020 18:35

that came across super self-pitying

Not to me, it didn't. None of your posts have - quite the reverse. Very best wishes for your treatment and recoveryFlowers

Tappering · 09/05/2020 18:36

@Mascotte thanks for sharing that info. I was vaguely aware of the guidance. Problem is that M&D are both worried about being told off if they go out - especially as M is in a wheelchair and on oxygen. I live a long way from them so can't see them right now (it's a day's journey just to get there). Hopefully some easing of restrictions will help.

Getting near the end of this fred now - we need a new one! Anyone got a good title suggestion??

Tappering · 09/05/2020 18:37

@Jourdain11 I don't think it was self-pitying at all Flowers

Jourdain Flowers It sounds incredibly tough for you all at the moment.

I think the meme is wrong though, surely Bill should be responsible for a whole load more deaths than that.

Jourdain11 · 09/05/2020 18:39

@Tappering @theThreeofWeevils
Thank you! It's a relief to know that I don't come across as having completely lost a sense of humour or positivity. I feel sometimes like I have! Wink

Mrsfrumble · 09/05/2020 18:39

Right! If Bill is asymptotic, he’s just as likely (or unlikely) to spread it shopping for essentials, delivering food to a vulnerable neighbour or doing his keyworker job. Which is why more women eating and contact tracing would be good.

But no, let’s stick with memes implying that the virus is ONLY spread by breaking the rules. Hmm

Mrsfrumble · 09/05/2020 18:41

Women eating??? Oh my god, my phone is a psycho. That was supposed to say “testing”. WTF, phone?!

psychomath · 09/05/2020 18:41

Oh that's rubbish Jourdain, sorry to hear that Sad I have to admit I don't know a whole lot about how chemo works, especially in the current circumstances, but I hope your treatment isn't being too badly affected. Does chemo put you at higher risk because it damages your immune system specifically, or is it more a case of your body not needing a virus on top of the other crap it's having to deal with?

psychomath · 09/05/2020 18:42

more women eating Grin

Jourdain11 · 09/05/2020 18:43

@TheGreatWave
Essentially, Bill is a mass murderer, let's face it! 😄
Thank you Flowers Actually, the prognosis is pretty good if it responds well to treatment, so fingers crossed. I'm 33 and previously completely healthy, so I should have everything on my side. The first two rounds of chemo are just very intense and knackering in this treatment plan, hopefully when I get onto the next bit it won't be quite so debilitating!

Mascotte · 09/05/2020 18:46

Good luck @Jourdain

I'm engaging with Bill's master as he's a science professional 🙄

TheGreatWave · 09/05/2020 18:47

Everything crossed for you Jourdain

Shodan · 09/05/2020 18:48

Which is why more women eating... would be good.

On it.

Jourdain11 · 09/05/2020 18:48

@psychomath I'd heard so much about "everything being cancelled" that I was really surprised when my consultant told me that chemo would start a week after my diagnosis! But basically, with this type of cancer, if you don't start treatment quite quickly it will become untreatable very quickly. I suspect mine was already a little more advanced than they ideally would have wished... It all sounds very overdramatic and I try not to dwell on it too much!

The cancer basically messes up your white blood cells, so you are susceptible to infection anyway. And then the chemo knackers your immune system even more. So that's why I've got to be corona-careful! Plus, my spleen is enlarged and doing strange things, so they're threatening to talking about removing it. Which will mean rubbish immune system for life, good goody Hmm

Alsohuman · 09/05/2020 18:50

Great suggestion for the title for the next thread @Jourdain11, all good wishes for your treatment and recovery 💐

Tappering · 09/05/2020 18:50

new thread here!

psychomath · 09/05/2020 19:03

Oh @Jourdain11 that does all sound really crap. Glad to hear that you're in a good position to fight it though, like everyone else I've got everything crossed for a good outcome. And don't worry about sounding self-pitying - firstly you don't (have been catching up on the thread and you actually sound hilarious and awesome), and secondly if I had to shield I'd probably be curled up in bed all day with self-pity! Let's hope we get the whole situation under control before too long, so that you too can share once more in the joys of ludicrously expensive caffeinated drinks.

Jourdain11 · 09/05/2020 19:12

The thing that really gets me is the expectation of people who are shielding (or who have decided that they're shielding...) that everyone around them must shield too.

I mean, if my husband wants to meet friends once it's allowed, I'd be happy for him to do that! If he wants to go to the shop just to buy pizza and ice cream, ditto. But apparently I should be wondering why he doesn't care about me / wants to KILL me, etc.

Poor guy! As if these last two months haven't been tough enough! If he wants a pizza, he should have one, I think!

HavartitoMeetYou · 09/05/2020 19:18

Honestly I wish there was some way we could lock the “shielders need to lock themselves in their bedrooms till a vaccine is found” brigade and the “shielders are selfish money grubbers who want the government to pay them to sit at home” brigade into a room and let them fight it out themselves.

Someone on another thread actually said that shielders need to get back to work and if they get COVID, tough luck.

Tappering · 09/05/2020 19:28

@HavartitoMeetYou come and join us on the new thread - I'm going to fill this one up now.
