Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

Not sure how a second spike is avoided upon coming out of lockdown, unless maybe your population is very sparse/dispersed? I don't understand science at all, I'll admit. Also, I chose to move to England, where WE UR ALL GAUNNAE DIE.

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/05/2020 10:30

Remind them that IKEA had a one way system years before Tesco did, so they are well ahead of the (flattened) curve.

Ah, but Ikea has cut-throughs that allow the knowledgable to miss out huge loops, allowing me someone to get to the meatballs, chips and gravy without trailing through the sofas and office furniture.

I know @Waxonwaxoff0 there's just no point arguing with these people. They won't listen anyway. Someone on Facebook now saying in response to idea we may have a bit more freedom from Monday - 'freedom to contract a potentially fatal virus?'. Yes like driving along motorway is freedom to potentially have a fatal car accident.

Arcadia · 07/05/2020 10:34

Love that @BruceAndNosh!

See? IKEA know how to reduce contact by increasing social distancing in the office furniture department.
ALL HAIL to the blue and yellow warehouse.
I could do with a new TOFTBO bath mat.

Mustbetimeforachange · 07/05/2020 10:41

Ah, I didn't know what the dementor threads were!
Hello Grin
I got into such trouble on here just before lockdown for making my own risk assessment (walk & cup of tea in garden with friends, sitting metres apart).

HouseOfSticks · 07/05/2020 10:45

This thread is like an oasis of sanity!
I have followed every single rule but some attitudes on MN is making me feel guilty for even wanting to see my family.
KW children have been attending school and mixing with other key work children. You would think this would course a spike in children with issue around CV. But it hasn’t.
Why are some people so resistant to returning to some sort of normal life. Healthy people should be able to be among other healthy people. How long are we going to live like this to protect the vulnerable which after all is a very small percentage of the country.

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/05/2020 10:58

KW children have been attending school and mixing with other key work children. You would think this would course a spike in children with issue around CV. But it hasn’t.

I would be really interested to know whether there has been a statistically significant increase in cases of CV among key workers who are WFH and whose only or primary infection route is via children attending school.

BTW, I would like to ask everyone on this thread to download the COVID Symptom Study app (used to be COVID tracker, but changed to avoid confusion with the one being trialled on the IoW), and update it daily. It'll provide great data to help model the spread of this, and future, pandemics. And while you're at it, please consider registering on Flusurvey. It runs every winter and tracks the spread of flu and flu-like illnesses. It only takes a minute a week to report and is really helpful in spotting trends.

@everythingisginandroses Scottish dementor twitter has decided the England will be some sort of Sodom and Gomorrah pit of death over the summer (many seem to have discovered their inner Presbyterian) while we'll be happily locked inside until a vaccine. I saw someone yesterday claim that there was no adverse consequences to this.

Presumably we'll all emerge sometime in 2022 and annexe the Lake District and Newcastle. Apart from the people in Glasgow parks yesterday, they are all going to die too.

BirdieFriendReturns · 07/05/2020 11:28

“ Normal is a very, very long way off.”

People are going to be very disappointed aren’t they! I wonder if the dementors will stay at home for a year and start squawking when they get dismissed for not going to work.

Mascotte · 07/05/2020 11:30

Oh fuck @willitnevercend I'm in Scotland too...depressing! And if there's ever a place yiu should get in the sunshine while you can it's up here! Get that vitamin d.

everythingisginandroses · 07/05/2020 11:37

As others have said, if people are so risk-averse, I do wish they'd get rid of their cars. Just think:

Probably your single biggest statistical risk of premature death or serious injury gone, just like that.
Cleaner air, which is very helpful to those with lung problems and respiratory conditions, and improves the prospects of those who get Covid-19.
Save lots of money.
The Dementors can get more fresh and exercise and therefore become less miserable, aggressive and fat.

Willitneverend · 07/05/2020 11:39

@mascotte Greater Glasgow Health Board had a post up asking people to make sure they got enough vitamin D.

BirdieFriendReturns · 07/05/2020 11:52

“Travelling abroad is about to become prohibitively expensive, so many won’t have a choice anyway.“

You are never going on holiday again! Ridiculous.

Mrsfrumble · 07/05/2020 12:00

everythingisginandroses I think I love you... GrinGrin

I confess that I hid the whole Coronavirus topic as soon as it was created, so I obviously missed the worst of it. I’m also kind of impressed that anyone has the stamina to STILL be incensed by what their neighbours are up to.

I did see the thread in AIBU about children going back to school, and was amused / bemused by how many posters suddenly forgot how to read when presented with the recent study about how children don’t actually seem to be “super-spreaders”, presumably because it didn’t fit in with their narrative.

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/05/2020 12:05

I am getting chased down by dementors on a thread because I walk for longer than an hour a day. I am summoning my patronus!

Mustbetimeforachange · 07/05/2020 12:09

Ooh, which thread? I walk for longer than an hour as well. Sometimes I go out twice Shock

iamapixie · 07/05/2020 12:10

everythingisginandroses - that gave me a proper lol, which I need at the moment considering the levels dementing has reached now there's a small chance that people could be allowed to sunbathe. We're asking people to literally drop down dead. Or something.

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/05/2020 12:11

Randomly it’s an Adele weight loss thread. I said I wasn’t putting weight on in lockdown as I walk for 2 hours a day (I don’t come within 5m of anyone on those walks). Apparently I’m selfish, bragging and I don’t care about the sacrifices that bus drivers and postmen are making. Oh and they’re glad they live in a city so they don’t have to encounter people like me.

sueelleker · 07/05/2020 12:12

I wonder if the dementors will stay at home for a year and start squawking when they get dismissed for not going to work.
I have visions of all the dementors sitting indoors for years like the Japanese soldiers who didn't know the war had ended.

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/05/2020 12:13

Oh and apparently I think I’m special and clever because I said I know how to assess risks and the risks of my 2 hour walks are zero.

Bollss · 07/05/2020 12:18

i've been on some school related threads and apparently we are asking teachers to die in 3 weeks Grin

banivani · 07/05/2020 12:18

everythingisroses You beat me to it - I was just going to post on these threads for the first time to comment on the difference in risk assessment coronavirus vs car travel/usage. Over 160 000 accidents in the UK in 2019 I think I read - motor traffic is really, genuinely dangerous but people make loads of risk assessments daily. It is the same thing. Wearing a face mask might be a reasonable adjustment (personally I am not convinced, because people are not using them safely are they, it's just window-dressing), like wearing a seat belt, but compared to the deadly plague that is motorised traffic (your precious precious cars) the coronavirus pandemic is but a gentle pinch.

Hi. I also hid the CV topic ages ago. I live in Sweden btw.

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/05/2020 12:20

banivani my brother died in a car accident in his 20’s. When I mentioned this on a thread about assessing risk in terms of coronavirus, I was told I was ‘distasteful’ for mentioning it. Luckily MN deleted their comment.
