Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

Tin-roof in my experience plenty of people go up to front line workers and say fuck you, all the time. I suspect there is some significant correlation between those who are screaming about poor behaviour in their eyes, as it is the same entitled, controlling behaviour.

DrearyWallAntler · 09/05/2020 12:44

I am also really surprised dementors haven't locked onto smallpox yet, but then that had truly horrific death toll and was eradicated by a vaccine, so not quite the right script.

SomewhereEast · 09/05/2020 12:49

I do particularly enjoy the holiday dementors. I went to give blood last week (an activity surely even dementors approve of) and had a nice chat with the nurse about the holidays we should've been going on this month. Our shared desire to enjoy a few good holidays next summer no doubt put at least fifteen people in their graves.

everythingisginandroses · 09/05/2020 12:49

OMFG, how can they take your blood from 2m away?! Grin

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 12:53

I hope you're self-isolating, Somewhere, and shielding, gah, so selfish, exposing yourself like that. Did you tell the phlebotomist 'Fuck you!' as well, because that's what your actions equate to Grin.

thesuninsagittarius · 09/05/2020 12:54

EEK! Just seen attackedbycritters post! Melodrama! Murder! Bodies in the street! Second wave! MILLIONS dead! Particles floating in the air! Froth! Froth!
How about...millions with worsening mental health. Millions dead from suicide, lack of cancer treatment and other vital services. Millions losing their jobs and their homes due to tanking economy. As the Times article says, this thing has given stupid people with nothing to occupy them a sense of direction and purpose at last.
@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter what you say about the level of concern and outrage when it comes to other issues like deaths from malaria/dirty drinking water etc is spot on. If these fuckwits directed all this energy at these issues something would be done about them.
'Hard of thinking' I love that!

BarkandCheese · 09/05/2020 12:56

OMFG, how can they take your blood from 2m away

I’m picturing some kind of harpoon arrangement 😂. “Sorry Mrs Smith, we missed your vein, we’re going to have to reel it back in and try again!”

PineappleDanish · 09/05/2020 12:57

As the Times article says, this thing has given stupid people with nothing to occupy them a sense of direction and purpose at last.

Maybe the next time a dementor posts a rant about their neighbour's barbecue or someone's behaviour in Tesco I'll just post some links to knitting tutorials, or sites like Sporcle where you can do quizzes.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 12:59

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter what you say about the level of concern and outrage when it comes to other issues like deaths from malaria/dirty drinking water etc is spot on

Yes, and of course I recognise that we cant all be worried about everything going on in the world 24/7. But what I do object to is being called selfish and scolded that I SHOULD be caring about some random stranger when those people themselves have never once in their lives ever cared about other random strangers who were going through hell.

Its the hypocrisy I cant abide- you MUST all care about MEEEEE! (yet ive never cared a jot about others in the past or done anything to help anyone else!).

Pinkflipflop85 · 09/05/2020 12:59

Just catching up this morning.

Can I mention that not all teachers are dementors! I can't wait to get back to school. All of my colleagues are desperate to get back too. Lots if plans being made of how we can support our children back to school etc.

There has been 0 social distancing in our school between staff and key worker kids.....everyone is still alive and kicking!!

Lianarose · 09/05/2020 13:03

This thread is helping me so much, thank you. I’m a LP to 2 dc 9 and 12, about to restart wfh full time after a month furloughed and I’m v stressed. Kids here 24/7 as their dad lives with a relative who is shielding. I tried to engage on one of the school threads about the data being unclear at best re schools going back. My main point was we know harm is happening right now through dv, abuse, mental health, cancers and other treatments stopped or delayed etc, people losing jobs and homes, and are we all willing to accept this just because some data say closing schools may have an impact on spread but no one really knows for sure.

I’m really concerned about my impacts on kids. I’m watching my own dc’s mood and behaviour beginning to decline as the weeks go on. They have been so good and patient but they’re becoming sadder and withdrawn, not wanting to go out for walks or do school work. My 12 yo doesn’t want to get up and is v v angry at times. I’ve been out playing in the paddling pool with my 9 yo and having a water fight this morning. She’d usually love it but today she just pulled the covers over her head and is refusing to eat anything.

I think I’ll break if schools are off until September or longer. I’m tired, anxious and lonely and it feels like the whole world has gone mad except on this thread. Sorry, needed to get that out.

SomewhereEast · 09/05/2020 13:04

everythingisginandroses I knowwww!!!! We were definitely within 2m of each other & I am somehow not dead. There were even biscuits afterwards (the decadence!). Seriously, they were doing their best with social distancing & hygiene within the limits of whats possible without radiating stress where it wasn't, which is fine by me.

Lianarose · 09/05/2020 13:05

To add 9 yo’s teacher has been wonderful, she phones every week and is really supportive.

SomewhereEast · 09/05/2020 13:05

Lianarose I've written to my (totally useless) MP about the MH issues around school closures. Might be worth doing likewise if you feel up to it?

Someone on another thread has called out some ‘British reverse exceptionalism’, saying basically what we’re saying on here... that we’re not the ‘laughing stock of the world’ because people aren’t actually all that bothered about what we’re doing. All she got in reply was ‘you make no sense’.

The whole 'laughing stock' thing is ridiculous. As you say, the vast majority of people outside GB don't give a shit about Britain. They're too worried about what's going on in their own countries. That's because, despite the fact that quite a few people here seem to think that every other country on earth is handing this crisis impeccably, people in these famous 'other countries' are often very critical of how their own govts are handling things.

And I hate to say it, but certain people will be massively disappointed if Britain doesn't end up having the world's highest death rate. They get outraged and threaten to report you if you say it, but I fear it is true.

RumbaswithPumbaas · 09/05/2020 13:13

Sorry, i missed all that, was that a dementor incursion or satire... struggling to tell?

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 13:15

8 million children under 5 die from largely preventable causes every year. Over 1 million die from malaria and over 40,000 from dengue fever. But I guess the dementors only care about British deaths and people can only die from Covid19 now.

It reminds of being told to eat my dinner as a child because children are starving to death in Africa. Me eating my dinner or not has no bearing on the awful state of the world.

LilacTree1 · 09/05/2020 13:15

Dressing I cba reading that.

I saw the attacked poster on another thread, think their brain got eaten by whatever is attacking them.

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 13:16

Remember the good ol' days when it vegans v. meat eaters (meat is murder) and environmental activists? Or the trans threads.

All the shame attempts are hilarious. Take a good look at yourself - damn, I need to dye my roots. Do they really think such strategies work?

Orangeblossom78 · 09/05/2020 13:17

The holiday dementors would love to hear about someone I know who works quite high up in the NHS (sorry I sound like one myself there!)

Anyway this person just flew out to the south of France to check on their second home there, apparently it was very cheap! (the flight) anyway they got stuck there, surprisingly (not) they couldn't find a flight back!

it made me laugh a bit as the person is very 'ditsy' and I can just imagine them doing this! But they also at the same time have a senior role in the nhs Grin Dementors would have a field day. Not sure if they have returned yet or not...

IcedPurple · 09/05/2020 13:18

And yes the VE Day stuff is nasty. Barely concealed classism and ageism. The word 'Brexiter' comes up in just about every post. They're using the pandemic as a way of having a go at people who aren't as 'woke' or with it as they perceive themselves to be.

And all the comments about how there's going to be a 'spike' in cases in 2 weeks? You just know they're going to be terribly disappointed when that doesn't happen, but by then they'll have moved on to the next non-event to clutch their pearls over.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/05/2020 13:19

Take care with naming people and quoting etc, MN said they would take the thread down previously if that happened too much. Not saying I agree btw but they commented didn't they.

Don't want to lose this place of refuge! Smile
