Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

attacked the truth is that people are replaceable. When we die, others carry on living, breeding, doing jobs. It's been happening for thousands of years. Unless every single farmer dies at once (and all their family and kindred who can take over for them), every single midwife dies at once, every single lorry dies at once, then when one goes another comes along and does the job, we're just the equivalent of ants when it comes to the scale of the universe, and this virus is not Captain Trips, which was made up and even then didn't have a 100% fatality rate.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/05/2020 11:54

There was some TV programme about sanitising your home and it said the virus can survive freezing (I think!) maybe it came from there. There has also been stuff about the virus travelling in air pollution as well. And of course there is climate change and melting ice caps...maybe it has all got confused and melded into one issue! the mind boggles Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/05/2020 11:55

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter can we swap out Bruce Willis for Nic Cage? He did such a good job of it in "The Rock"

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 11:56

haha! Nic cage- with his unfeasibly black hair - of course. We can pay him in hair dye 🤓

Now I guess you think I am demented

Well, demented is a strong word. A little hard of thinking, perhaps.

because you don't want to hear the truth

Oooh, THE TRUTH. Is this The Truth They Don't Want You To Know, or another made-up version of The Rules?

I think you are demented for being so scared that you have to lie to yourself.

I think you need to get better at reading the room. A little science and stats catch-up wouldn't hurt, too.

LilacTree1 · 09/05/2020 12:02

Tin “ the truth is that people are replaceable.”

So true. Thanks for being brave enough to say it.

heroku · 09/05/2020 12:07

I think you are demented for being so scared that you have to lie to yourself

Haha nope. I've worked in countries where there are UN peacekeeping tanks rolling down the streets. Some of us just aren't scared that easily.

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 12:09

Nic Cage is going to be epic as Joe Exotic! He's got that oily look down. It's going to be legend. Who's going to play Carole Baskin? I vote for Kathy Bates, personally.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 12:12

I think you are demented for being so scared that you have to lie to yourself

I'm not lying to myself. Thats exactly WHY I am not scared lol.
I worked with a client 2 weeks ago who has been diagnosed with Covid. Took sensible precautions and I dont have it- why on earth should i be scared?. Me running around in hysterics shouting about how many people are dying is not a sensible or practical approach is it? If doctors and nurses did that, there would be noone to care for covid patients!

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 12:16

Thank you for your wisdom attackedbycritters, we’ve all now seen the error of our ways Hmm

Mascotte · 09/05/2020 12:17

Was that a serious post? I thought it was a pisstake 😳

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 12:17

I grew up Catholic - guilt tripping, passive aggression, shame mongering all have zero effect on me now, but I'm amazed at how effective they are on so many.

PopcornAndWine · 09/05/2020 12:26

I posted a Stay the fuck home' ribbon on Facebook at the start of lockdown - I completely agreed that it was necessary at the time, but it cannot go on forever. And I am so sick of the all the sanctimonious drivel about how unless we or a close relative have been badly affected by Covid then we are not allowed to be sad or disappointed about anything and should "get over ourselves" or "give our heads a wobble" (definite dementor favourites).

I am sad my brother has had to cancel his wedding. I am sad that I haven't got to do any of the fun things I had planned with the extra 2 months of maternity leave that I took. I am sad we have had to cancel two mini breaks and our first holiday abroad with DD. I am sad that my sister in law has had to close down the small business she has just got going and has no idea if or when she can reopen. I am sad that I have no idea when I will next get to see my friends and family in the UK. I am sad about all the lovely pubs and restaurants I have enjoyed visiting in the past that will inevitably close. I am sad for my two nieces who had just started school and were really enjoying it.

If being sad about these things makes me stupid or selfish, then so be it. Yes obviously I am also very grateful that the people I care about are safe and well. These things are not mutually exclusive.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 12:26

Nic Cage is going to be epic as Joe Exotic

Thats excellent casting!

MagdaS · 09/05/2020 12:30

So scared that you have to lie to yourself

Er, no. I'm not scared of the virus in the slightest. It doesn't mean I'm not taking reasonable precautions to protect others, but I'm also aware that the risk to me and my family is extremely low.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 12:31

If being sad about these things makes me stupid or selfish, then so be it. Yes obviously I am also very grateful that the people I care about are safe and well. These things are not mutually exclusive

They arent. Also, there is always horrible, inhumane stuff happening n the world. Prior to covid, why were those sanctimonious twats not posting about deaths from TB in developing countries? or deaths from malaria? or from dirty drinking water? millions are dying from those yet I heard not a peep from the dementors about it. Could it be that its because those people are poor and from other countries and therefore, not important to them?

Yet, suddenly something affects THEM and everyone is supposed to care. They are the ultimate hypocrites. Not giving a crap about anyone else dying until it starts to affect their lives. Then, suddenly its a huge big deal.

SummerHouse · 09/05/2020 12:34

I've had to organise a funeral for my mum because of covid, I don't want to have to do the same for my daughter because of lockdown thank you very much.

Heartbreaking, elequant and wise post.Flowers

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 12:36

That is heartbreaking

everythingisginandroses · 09/05/2020 12:37

I agree, @PopcornAndWine - it's the lack of nuance and the black-and-white thinking that becomes wearing very quickly. I am just recovering from an unpleasant illness which has dragged on for weeks, almost certainly Covid-99 - it's been rubbish and I'm by no means anti-lockdown or a minimiser. I still strongly feel that some posters on here go way OTT with their catastrophising, and they seem to be enjoying it, and enjoying the chance to take the moral high ground and be incredibly rude to strangers from the safety of their keyboards. I suspect many of these people would run from confrontation in real life!

thesuninsagittarius · 09/05/2020 12:37

Some really thought provoking and interesting posts here this morning. I was interested to read about black and white thinking, makes a lot of sense. And the Times article was a great read too.
Well, I went off to do my shopping. I didn't go to Aldi as I couldn't face the walk there and back, but I went to Home Bargains and my local fruit and veg shop. LOTS of people about, everyone looking relaxed and happy to be out in the sunshine. AND...not a mask or a glove to be seen!
Much more traffic through the town today and even quite late last night.
No one leaped into the road to avoid me and my shopping trolley. We just walked past each other like normal people. And I got to pet a lovely spaniel outside the fruit and veg shop. Dogs are such excellent therapy.

PopcornAndWine · 09/05/2020 12:38

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter exactly, well said.

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 12:38

Exactly, Alexis.

Don't forget to add this one to the bingo card: 'Would you go up to a frontline worker and tell them 'Fuck you!'?'

everythingisginandroses · 09/05/2020 12:38

Covid-19 Hmm

Although some posters may think there are 99 strains out there!
