Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

The Jurassic Park thing appeared on a friends feed...she works in a school so I guess gearing up for the ‘I’m not going back until it’s safe’ line. So fucking bored of the same shit!

OutwardBound2016 · 08/05/2020 18:08

And now people comparing Covid to Ebola, bet no one gave a shit about Ebola before as it was only poor Africans who got it.

And also I see one HTH on the end of a post I will scream.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/05/2020 18:17

Oh God can you imagine the memes etc about the 'next wave' etc, they think it will mutate...Confused- that will be next I guess

MagdaS · 08/05/2020 18:26

I saw an amazing post about mutations which suggested this is the third type of COVID since it emerged and a much more lethal strain. It was utterly batshit.

DH has just embarrassed me by joining in the next street’s VE Day party when we rode past on our bikes. Bloody rocked up and asked for a cake - he doesn’t know them from Adam. Blush I muttered something about needing to put the dinner on and scuttled off. Not that I think he’s KILLING people, more social awkwardness. Grin

We’d already killed thousands just by going on a bike ride for nearly 2 hours, anyway. After that my beer tastes extra good.

Willitneverend · 08/05/2020 18:26

The volunteer group here occasionally posts requests for a VERY specific type of toilet roll, apparently theres a household that need very fancy toilet roll as their bums are allergic to other types.

Maybe this is what the army could help with?

TitianaTitsling · 08/05/2020 18:34

Don't know if anyone else has already posted but according to another thread in which people are sharing how stressful things are, how they are struggling with parenting, the ongoing guilt we are all doing it wrong up pops the dementor classic.. we’ve got 2 choices atm. Stay in our homes, or risk having to stay in a hospital whilst fighting for our lives? How doom laden!

Tappering · 08/05/2020 18:36

I went to B&Q earlier to buy some topsoil for the garden. All socially distanced and well controlled by the staff but clearly I will be responsible for the death of 878474 families now.

What I've said to DD1 throughout this is that a virus that mutates to get MORE deadly is a really crappy virus because it kills its hosts before it gets the chance to transmit on! She's 8 years old and managed to grasp this concept!

And greetings to all from my neck of the woods - gutted about the Mill fire cos it was one of my favourite local buildings!

thesuninsagittarius · 08/05/2020 18:50

Do you know what? I'm a bit scared to go out now. I have to go and get shopping tomorrow. I know it's my mental health problems but I'm scared someone will start shouting at me because I won't leap out of their way when we have to pass each other. What if I go the wrong way in the supermarket? I feel very tearful and on edge and if someone starts on me I don't know what I'll do.

TinRoofRusty · 08/05/2020 19:00

I'm back from my killing spree. Saw a grand total of 5 people walking (that's busy for around here) and the usual two mountain biker dudes I see. Slay every day! I'm now drinking non-essential wine after a dinner that had chicken/meat in it. Redemption!

Do what Beyonce does when she has go on stage- she picks a persona, an alter ego "Sasha Fierce" and Sasha does all the things that Beyonce cant do! She's fierce, she's brave, she's a badass. Pick another persona and go for it!
Deep breaths. You CAN do this Star

Had to admit this properly made me laugh, it’s so on the money..🤣

Pinkflipflop85 · 08/05/2020 19:05

I felt the same as you sun.

On one particular shopping trip someone did passive aggressively huff at me so I just told her to fuck off.

I don't even know what came over me....it's not the sort of thing I would normally do!

Pinkflipflop85 · 08/05/2020 19:07

But aside from the one moron, shopping has been fine. Everyone just doing weird side steps and dances in the aisles in an awkward fashion and the occasional knowing nod/look of 'this is madness'.

MagdaS · 08/05/2020 19:07

Yep, the vast majority of people are being polite and making room for each other. The thing is (for me anyway) I have no idea what shit they're going through, so I will keep my distance, smile and say thank you. Generally people will then do the same. I'm not bothered if they come within 2 metres, really, because I still think the risk is low unless they were licking my face, but they might be.

userxx · 08/05/2020 19:09

@thesuninsagittarius Just tell them to fuck off.

You’ll be fine, most people are too busy worrying about themselves to give a toss about anyone else.

I went the wrong way down several (empty) aisles at Tesco on purpose the other day and didn’t even get a mucky look, never mind get arrested. (I’d been at work all day, I was buggered if I was walking miles round for no good reason.)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 08/05/2020 19:18

Anyone else spotted this beauty too?
"Everyone wanting to get back to normal seem to forget the second wave of the spanish flu was deadlier than the first" History repeats itself.....

Yeah cos I'm sure the general poor health and transience of a post war population amongst other things didnt have too much of an impact. No, it's because ernie down the road went to the local general store....

TazSyd · 08/05/2020 19:24

I’m going out for wine and cider now. We’re going to be playing virtual board games with family.

I’ll get some milk and loo roll too. We’re almost out of both. Hope that’s ok 😀.

thesuninsagittarius · 08/05/2020 19:29

Thank you everyone, I'm going to go to Aldi tomorrow and take my chances. If anyone gets in my face I'm going to push them into a freezer. And cough on them!

DominaShantotto · 08/05/2020 19:33

TheSun I get it - I have massive anxiety problems too and I've avoided the supermarkets so far. Then I had to go to collect something from Argos as DH refused to go for me and I was terrified - panic attacks in the queue, terrified I'd put a foot wrong and socially "sin"... and then after about 10 minutes of queuing it just struck me how utterly bloody absurdly British it was how we were handling it - with acres of personal space and taking queuing to an art form and I got the bloody giggles! Then I started people watching - seeing what group were the space invaders, who were excessive with it and everything and just mentally turned it into a game of chess in my mind... got through it fine once I detached a bit and started seeing how utterly ridiculous we've become.

TeacupDrama · 08/05/2020 19:34

@thesuninsagittarius when my daughter had a bit stage fright about reading from the stage at school, she was told to imagine the audience as pineapples, if you think of the other people as pineapples well what a pineapple thinks of you isn't worth considering etc, a pineapple thought I was in the wrong aisle well big wow so ignore the pineapples unless they smile then smile back and slaugher nurses as we now know that virus transmits by smiling but is repelled by a scowl

thesuninsagittarius · 08/05/2020 20:05

Thank you all for your excellent advice. you are all saving my sanity (what's left of it) and giving me a good laugh too. I wish more of Mumsnet could be like this. Surely this is how it should be?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/05/2020 20:06

I don't know how many people I've murdered today. I've been out talking and drinking with the neighbours since 3pm and social distancing has slipped a little. But do you know what, for the first time in weeks I've laughed, chatted and felt happy.
