Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

Or 'calmer' even...

heroku · 08/05/2020 08:23

Ah it's great to have found this thread. Yesterday a good friend of mine revealed in a WhatsApp group that her and her new boyfriend had really struggled with not seeing each other for 7 weeks so he decided to come over to her house to talk face to face and they ended up breaking up.

The first response: "I knew the lockdown would be particularly hard for you but that doesn't mean the rules don't apply".

What a shit. Expecto patronum!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 08/05/2020 08:32

Well if its good enough for neil ferguson, then they can do it too!

OutwardBound2016 · 08/05/2020 08:37

There now seems to be dementor in fighting on some threads, a kind of weird who can be the most miserable competition.

Tappering · 08/05/2020 09:05

I'm really fed up with the Macmillan advert - everything's on hold...and boom here's a lady to tell you she's worse off because she still has terminal cancer.

I know cancer is awful and it's particularly hard right now with treatments and consultations suspended, but Jesus that advert is horrendous.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/05/2020 09:06

I see some of the school dementing has hit the papers today, the Times front page about schools mentioning

"a survey by Mumsnet found that only one parent in five thinks schools should reopen now. Less than half would send their child back immediately"

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-head-teachers-fear-ghost-schools-as-parents-keep-children-at-home-7kxgm36gx

Bollss · 08/05/2020 09:08

Surely that's good as then us sensible people can send ours back and get on with out lives Grin only 10 kids a class would be a piece of cake.

I reckon there'd be lots more jobs suddenly available which in all honestly would be great for me!

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/05/2020 09:08

Urgh that is so annoying Orangeblossom78. Practically everyone I know in real life would send theirs back.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/05/2020 09:08

that advert is horrendous.

Yes, a young relative has cancer and doesn't need those adverts either. I agree

Daffodil101 · 08/05/2020 09:10

I totally agree about the inability to risk assess, it’s absolute madness.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/05/2020 09:10

Yes, the schools article goes on to say

"Research by the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics has shown that keeping near-empty schools open has cost £1 billion a week and “opened a chasm” between poor and wealthy pupils.

Ms Hewitt-Clarkson (who runs Anderton Park primary school in Birmingham) said: “The inequality gap has widened in front of our eyes. While some children have violin lessons, karate, yoga and ballet via Zoom, effortlessly in between meals and snacks from a well stocked organic pantry and a romp around a large garden, too many children rely on food banks and a parent’s phone shared between several children.

“Home learning works well for those who need it least . . . We are discussing how we talk to children about their time at home without rewarding those who have completed a lot of work when those who have not are blameless.”

Kind of apt, after mentioning MN...

Springersrock · 08/05/2020 09:11

Just been reading a thread about breaking lockdown rules

People are talking about supporting bereaved relatives and helping vulnerable and someone comes on to post

You people have to get a grip of yourself and truly understand what is really going in here.

Nothing will be the same as before and If you do not believe me then you obviouly have not been paying attention because they keep on reiterating that fact over and over. Yet few seem willing to listen

Quite astounding and worrying tbh

Seriously, fuck off 🙄

Mascotte · 08/05/2020 09:15

Do you all think that this has made dementors show their true colours as often vicious and uncaring? Or do you think it's fear that's made them say stuff like that?

I like to think the best of people but my faith in humankind has been severely rattled.

Bollss · 08/05/2020 09:19

I think a lot of people have shown their true colours. And a lot of this "you're killing people" is faux caring and code for "I might die and I don't want to!"

I don't believe these people care about the general population dying I think they care it might be them (even though if they're going and healthy it's statistically very unlikely)

I think a lot of them have always been controlling pains in the arse but now they have the opportunity to voice their opinions to an audience other then their immediate family.

What has shocked me the most is people who I would have considered measured and intelligent posting stupid fucking FB shit about empty ICU beds and how lifting lockdown only means there's space for you.

DominaShantotto · 08/05/2020 09:23

Mnhq really have lost control of the nastiness now altogether.

Incidentally DD came out of her day at school to reconnect yesterday absolutely like the weight of the world had been lifted off her shoulders (she was pissed off again 10 mins later like normal). I would take the risk of schools reopening any day to see her like that again.

userxx · 08/05/2020 09:27

@Springersrock I read that thread. If my mum was at home alone and depressed every fucking rule that was ever written would have been broken. I can't get my head around it.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 08/05/2020 09:29

I think a lot of them have always been controlling pains in the arse but now they have the opportunity to voice their opinions to an audience other then their immediate family

Yes. They dont give a crap in real life about people dying. They just want lockdown to stay on indefinitely because it suits them and thats the most emotive justification they can think of. I know they dont care about people dying because whenever you mention suicide, domestic abuse, kids being neglected and abused during lockdown or cancer screenings stopping etc they NEVER say anything. They just parrot "people are dying" over and over again. They couldn't give a shit about the groups of people I mentioned dying. If you dont have covid, noone cares.

I'm also very disappointed in MNHQ because I have reported several threads that were spreading fear and downright lies and misinformation. It took a 2 second google search to see it was rubbish yet MNHQ just say "they have a right to their opinion". Opinion- fine, presenting lies as facts and doom mongering with no scientific basis and blatant misinformation- not fine.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/05/2020 09:29

@Springersrock I'm on that thread and I've questioned that poster. Angry

BarkandCheese · 08/05/2020 09:30

I’ve got another one one for the bingo car, “laughing stock of Europe”, I just saw this little gem again on a thread.

Springersrock · 08/05/2020 09:31

I’ve been reporting posts like that. I’m sure they won’t delete them but it might show MNHQ that some of us are sick of reading shit like that.

sueelleker · 08/05/2020 09:33

@ThatLibraryMiss
"For want of a nail the horse was lost".?

Mascotte · 08/05/2020 09:34

Yes to the laughing stock.

Springersrock · 08/05/2020 09:34

Oh, the laughing stock of Europe and laughing stock of the world shit

I’m sure all these other countries are focussing on their own crises right now rather than laughing at the UK.

Mikki2019 · 08/05/2020 09:38

I think the dementors are the same people who show vitriol to anyone who doesn’t dare adhere to their idea of how you SHOULD be. So for example trans kids , single parents , anyone who questions the perceived ‘norm’ basically .

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 08/05/2020 09:44

I’ve been reporting posts like that. I’m sure they won’t delete them but it might show MNHQ that some of us are sick of reading shit like that

Yep- I will continue to do it too. I did report one that suggested we'd all be having ration books soon. It was so OTT that even MNHQ had to admit it and they took it down.

I think the dementors are the same people who show vitriol to anyone who doesn’t dare adhere to their idea of how you SHOULD be. So for example trans kids , single parents , anyone who questions the perceived ‘norm’ basically

Absolutely- covid has just given them an even more juicy topic to scold and be superior about. Its even more delicious for them because they can use other people dying as justification so it makes them look noble and as if they really care. When in reality they have never cared about others, only themselves and their own made up rules as to how the rest of us should live our lives. They are the ultimate curtain twitchers.
