Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

Having a Pimms and a game of Bingo. Thanks OP, you said more in one bingo card than all these threads put together. I salute you, cheers!

I saw that BogRollBOGOF, it made me chuckle.

Oh Jesus, the clapping dementors are going to be out soon, the lovers and the haters are just as bad as each other

So true. I’m a half hearted clapper (have done it twice but don’t do it religiously). We have an ICU nurse who lives opposite but she’s never in on a Thursday night as she’s at work! So no point doing it for her. My mum is NHS and she says she’d rather she was just paid more. Can’t find it in me to care whether people clap or not, but according to MN if you clap you’re either a raging Tory hypocrite or a narcissist, and if you don’t you want all NHS workers to die.

Willow2017 · 07/05/2020 19:28

But none of them can see through this weird glaze of drama about the virus - it's really odd
But Orangeblossom78 dont you know in the words of the great James Hetfield "Nothing else matters".

everythingisginandroses · 07/05/2020 19:28

The first clapping was on day 10 of my illness and I felt really ill. It still makes me feel weird. Our friend who works in a hospital tells us he doesn't like or want the clapping. It's well-meaning, I suppose. I wish my neighbours would stop voting Tory instead of clapping.

DominaShantotto · 07/05/2020 19:29

The Raab press conference has successfully killed another lot of British people apparently.

I hate the way our area's got with the clapping - we've currently got the "come on give it a good showing - don't let the side down" stuff going on, then it'll be "great show X street, shame about those two houses that let the side down" and videos of every fucking street checking in for a good 4 hours now. Then someone will invariably post "look I'm just off shifts and trying to sleep, can you not do the fireworks as it really sends the dog/cat/gerbil/hamster mad" and they'll get shit about that... and god forbid you dare get annoyed about the car horns - we have a guy opposite who basically just lets his car horn go for a good 2-3 minutes solid - right outside my kids' room and neither kid is coping well right now and have only just gone to sleep. No NHS workers in the street - I'm probably the closest on a healthcare degree course.

Ours all clap honk and be twits then bugger off to have drinks together in someone's garden. Let's just say our gardens are NOT MN socially distancing size-able!

Alsohuman · 07/05/2020 19:29

Well take care clappers don't risk your LIFE clapping and injuring yourself, take care

Thanks @Orangeblossom78.

everythingisginandroses · 07/05/2020 19:30

OMFG, the clapping injuries Grin

TazSyd · 07/05/2020 19:30

@Leighhalfpennysthigh

I don’t know about the M5 but we’ve been doing a weekly dash up and down the m61 to pick up and drop off DSD. Not been stopped once (we do have a valid reason to be out, just in case any stray dementors find their way here).

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 19:33

We have never done the clapping Blush - across from us, lives a day with severe MH problems and she always has the blinds shut etc and I know it scares her all of this. We hear a bit from a distance but maybe it is one of the things of living really in the centre as we don't ever get people expecting people to join in thankfully.

OutwardBound2016 · 07/05/2020 19:34

I show my appreciation for the NHS by being on time for appointments, not missing appointments and being courteous and polite to everyone I encounter. I hope all the Thursday Flappers do the same!

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 19:34

lady Smile

TinRoofRusty · 07/05/2020 19:35

I've never participated in the clapping. Not once. I live in the middle of nowhere.

LilacTree1 · 07/05/2020 19:35

I no longer appreciate the nhs. Funny how things turn out.

DominaShantotto · 07/05/2020 19:36

@Orangeblossom78 as someone with similar issues - thank you. When my mental health is bad (and it's terrible now) I get hyper hyper sensitive to sound. The clap, and anticipation of the clap gets me on edge all evening - and then gammonboi next door has a novelty clown car style horn that he'll honk at 8pm and then be honking at random intervals until about 11pm at night.

I just keep very quiet in public about how terrible it makes me feel - and I get to hear them slagging me off for not clapping as they gather next door afterwards and this time of year I have the windows open.

LilacTree1 · 07/05/2020 19:37

Domina “ then be honking at random intervals until about 11pm at night”

Report for noise nuisance. Police have fuck all to do at the moment, you might well be able to get this sorted.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 07/05/2020 19:38

@TinRoofRusty it's actually only the fear of being stopped or fined that has stopped me so far.

Obviously I don't care about killing grannies.

I don't do the clap either.

TazSyd · 07/05/2020 19:38

@DominaShantotto

Yep. Report online to the council. He will get a warning letter.

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 19:39

Domina to be honest I'm a bit the same. I saw said lady in the local shop the other day and we just looked at each other and asked each other are you coping OK? and she said she was...

just seen this comment on keeping to the ROOLs on lockdown made me smile

"Not here in Scotland. Well you can all have the virus!! Where I come from, most people are afraid and doing it.
You will reap what you sew."

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 07/05/2020 19:40

I do like the idea of Thursday Flappers though - thinking Gatsby dresses, long strings of pearls, jazz and copious quantities of 🍸🍸🍸🍸

DominaShantotto · 07/05/2020 19:40

Would report horn twat but we want to sell and move (wonder why?!)

Last bank holiday he was honking and out the back were clapping in response for fucking hours. If I ever get hold of that horn he'll be honking by squeezing his hairy arse cheeks.

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 19:43

This made me laugh too, can imagine them watching out the window!

"My furloughed arse is firmly attached to the sofa and I've seen them all out in the street, chatting and the kids playing, visitors visiting"

LilacTree1 · 07/05/2020 19:44

Domina “ Last bank holiday he was honking and out the back were clapping in response for fucking hours”

I’d have thought lots of people would want to report that!

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 19:44

Doesn't sound that good for your health having your arse firmly attached to your seat does it!

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 19:45

Round here in the rural parts of the west country apparently an air raid siren has been going off freaking people out- sounds eerie they say.

amicissimma · 07/05/2020 19:47

LilacTree1, good question. It was one of those forwarded things and I was so shocked that I didn't look at the name of the originator. It was a while ago and long gone now. (or beyond my skills to find it)
