I didn't realise she was due already. Baby boy born this morning!

Perfectly possible to have several reactions to this news.

  1. I hope mother and baby are doing well and have good support for the next few weeks, as they're not likely to get it from the PM in current circumstances. Ms Symonds has had a tough time recently.
  1. I wonder how his ex-wife and existing children are feeling right now. I hope his ex-wife is through the worst of her cancer treatment.
  1. I look for intelligence, competence and leadership ability in a Prime Minister. I would also like the PM to be a decent person. Johnson doesn't fit the bill. He has treated his various partners, married and extra-marital, and his children, however many he has, appallingly. He utterly failed to provide good timely leadership in the early stages of this unparalleled crisis, before he was ill. The fact that he was seriously ill himself doesn't undo any of the foregoing. I hope he's on the mend now, as I would hope for anyone else who was seriously ill. But being ill and recovering doesn't turn somebody into a saint.
dottiedodah · 29/04/2020 11:50

Surely they will have a Nanny? In any case ,Boris has been unwell and should be recuperating! With a new baby and a country to run ,he will have to delegate .Anyway lovely news ,well done and many congrats to them both!

MrsJoshNavidi · 29/04/2020 11:50

God what an absentee PM he's been

How horrible! He's been very ill, and he's had a baby. Being PM is a job, like any other (well not like any other, but a job subject to employment law etc like anyone else's).

ducksback · 29/04/2020 11:50

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace None of us know. But he has never once coughed on video or been properly breathless when speaking. I know what it sounds like when someone with serious respiratory problems is speaking, you can hear the difference, he has never had that

Riiiiight.

Cam77 · 29/04/2020 11:52

In more reasonable and sensible countries, the p.m./president joking and boasting of shaking hands with hospital patients and staff during a pandemic, and then coming down with it, and likely spreading it around, would be more than enough to tender a resignation. Hes an idiotic amoral chancer, whose only skill is for self promotion.

MaybeDoctor · 29/04/2020 11:52

@MaxNormal
My error, my mind struggles to compute it all!

bumblingbovine49 · 29/04/2020 11:52

I think as this is his 5th or 6th one, he won't be too phased. I can't imagine he'll take any more interest in this one than he does the others really

Devlesko · 29/04/2020 11:52

It's a least 2 wives, a partner, mistress, divorcing his last wife at record speed to move his latest mistress into no 10, just after announcing an engagement.
HTH
Lovely morals for our PM. I wonder if this is the first ever to move his latest squeeze into no 10?

tealady · 29/04/2020 11:53

How do any of us know whether he has been a good father? This thread is so nasty and judgemental. His parenting cannot possibly be judged by any of us as we do not know the facts.

Yes, he has had a complicated relationship history but that is not unique - and it does not mean that he has turned his back on his children.

Whatever your political views might be Boris and Carrie have been through a lot - and a new baby is always a cause for joy.

Congratulations to them both and I hope all is well.

ducksback · 29/04/2020 11:53

I suspect that Carrie is a little naïve and, like many second partners, has been told a tall story about his previous marriage. It's also quite probable that she is ambitious and being at the centre of power was a huge attraction to her. However, becoming a mother herself is likely to make her think a bit more deeply about it all

I suspect that you know bog all about her tbf.

cantory · 29/04/2020 11:53

I suspect he will take paternity leave. He is well known to be lazy.

@ducksback Indeed!

I’m not condoning their affair (if they did have one) but that was a ridiculous comment.

dottiedodah · 29/04/2020 11:54

GaspOdeTheWonderDog So he is the only middle aged man to get divorced and have a younger partner? Happens all the time! I am not saying he is a saint ,but he has put his life/health on the line for us all.His wife threw him out some time ago, and took him back so probably not too upset right now! JFK was a terrific president ,but had many lovers as well .Didnt make him any less a great leader!

ducksback · 29/04/2020 11:55

I wonder if this is the first ever to move his latest squeeze into no 10?

The woman hating on here is palpable. She is his fiance and a woman in her own right. 'Latest squeeze' is right up there with 'mistress' in terms of misogyny. FFS.

cantory · 29/04/2020 11:55

@tealady You think a man who has never met his 10 year old daughter can be described as a good father?

Xenia · 29/04/2020 11:56

I hope they do well but I do want him to change the law now and allow marriages in the UK even if just with the couple and a priest (standing at 2 meters) or a registrar as it is very unfair to ban them entirely even if it was quite convenient to him to have his child born illegimtte and not have the cost of a 3rd divorce were he ever to break up from CS.

derxa · 29/04/2020 11:57

@derxa Of course he did. What did you expect him to tweet. Congratulations hope you spend time with this baby unlike your other kids.
The message has an effusive tone which makes me think he means it. Keir Starmer seems to be a thoroughly decent man.

ducksback · 29/04/2020 11:58

even if it was quite convenient to him to have his child born illegimtte

It keeps on getting worse doesn't it?

AgathaX · 29/04/2020 11:58

There are some really spiteful fuckers on this thread.

ducksback · 29/04/2020 11:58

Keir Starmer seems to be a thoroughly decent man

I agree derxa

Cam77 · 29/04/2020 11:58

" complicated relationship history" is that what Mumsneters call lowlife absentee fathers/philanderers who happen to have a posh accent/ important job?

Thymeout · 29/04/2020 11:58

I have no respect whatsoever for Boris Johnson.
At first, I thought that Carrie Symonds was just another in a string of star-struck young women who was foolish to think she'd be treated differently from her predecessors. But after she put those touched-up doe-eyed selfies on Instagram to be splashed all over the press, I can't say she deserves much sympathy either. It was incredibly insensitive and disrespectful to his wife and children and I'm sorry that some Mumsnetters seem to think it's OK because it's the C2ist century, ffs.

Alsohuman · 29/04/2020 11:59

Latest squeeze' is right up there with 'mistress' in terms of misogyny. FFS

Possibly. Accurate though.

ImaPinkToothbrush · 29/04/2020 12:00

I assume they lied about her due date to hide the fact that she was pregnant before his divorce from Marina was finalised.

So a twice divorced father of an unknown number of children by at least 2 or 3 different women, well known for having multiple affairs, moves his latest girlfriend (who is closer in age to his eldest children than to him) into his taxpayer funded home whilst still married to previous wife - has another baby. Good for him.

What was he doing during that long holiday in February when a global pandemic was breaking out?

And where is all the PPE?
