Worst British Sitcoms of all time!

In your opinion what is the worst British sitcom of all time.

My definition of Sitcom, is a comedy that prime purpose is to be “funny”. For Example shows such as Being Human, Fleabag, my mad fat dairy, Brasic and Jonathan Creek don’t count as whilst they contain humour they are not what most would consider a sitcom as they contain to much of a serious undertone. (Not saying these are bad shows, I just see them refer to as sitcoms a lot when they technically are not)

Probably not a popular opinion, but I can't abide The Vicar of Dibley. Annoying characters and no laughs.

supercee · 10/04/2020 12:57

Mrs Brown's Boys.

SnowBrussels · 10/04/2020 12:58

Can I be first to say anything with Mrs Brown in the title.
Also Miranda.

Second Mrs Brown’s Boys. It’s horrific

wanderings · 10/04/2020 13:01

Most sitcoms when they become too predictable. After a while, I found Keeping Up Appearances unwatchable. Although it was a brilliant idea for a comedy, I can’t laugh at people who are too weak to say no, so they all get roped into the dreaded “candlelight suppers” because they’re too afraid of Hyacinth Bucket to say no.

wowfudge · 10/04/2020 13:01

Mrs Brown's Boys isn't British, though it is inflicted on us.

Raera · 10/04/2020 13:01

On the buses
Love thy neighbour
Mrs Brown's boys

morecoffeerequired · 10/04/2020 13:01

The Royle Family. Utterly grim.

AuntieDolly · 10/04/2020 13:01

The thin blue line

SisterVanHelsing · 10/04/2020 13:02

Mrs Brown's Boys for me, plus any of the racist ones from the 70s.

MarieQueenofScots · 10/04/2020 13:02

Only Fools and Horses. Just awful.

Biancadelrioisback · 10/04/2020 13:04

I absolutely hated that one with Matt Lucas and David Walliums. Can't remember what it was called but it was so, so forced!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/04/2020 13:04

Goodbye, Mrs Noah

and Mrs Brown's Boys.

acatcalledjohn · 10/04/2020 13:05

Friends. Utterly vapid and annoying characters.

And that annoying one with Zooey Deschanel. Is it New Girl?

Doyoumind · 10/04/2020 13:05

This is so easy - Mrs Brown's Boys. Just get that shit off our screens!

1forsorrow · 10/04/2020 13:06

Mrs Brown's Boys. I've never met anyone who liked it, is there anyone who likes it?
On the Buses
Terry and June (showing my age)
Steptoe and Son (I know it is a classic but it makes me depressed as I worry about them both so I can't see the comedy in it)

JeanJackeys · 10/04/2020 13:07

Red Dwarf

Biancadelrioisback · 10/04/2020 13:07

@acatcalledjohn British sitcoms. Those are American

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 10/04/2020 13:07

Matt Lucas & David Walliams was a sketch show rather than a sitcom.

Problem with sitcoms is they mostly rely on slapstick or humiliation (or both) to be funny, and it's very, very hard to get the right balance.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/04/2020 13:08

Mrs Browns boys
Only fools and horses
Last of the summer wine.

FthisS · 10/04/2020 13:08

Toddlerteaplease · 10/04/2020 13:09

Oh and the Royale family makes me feel physically sick.

chomalungma · 10/04/2020 13:10

Some much loved classics on here...

I can remember Duty Free. Were they just on a very long holiday?

BarkandCheese · 10/04/2020 13:16

Currently Not Going Out, I’m baffled why it has a Christmas special every year. It’s not funny, I know no one who watches it and I don’t think it’s ever been popular like Mrs Browns Boys (which I know is awful but pulls in huge viewing figures). I can only conclude Lee Mack knows where the bodies are.

Historically any comedy which relied on the aren't foreigners/other races funny, let’s laugh at them for their plots.
