Can't have a barbecue this weekend :(

The shop I went to yesterday didn't have charcoal.
But never mind I'm sure when lockdown is over there will be endless weekends where its lashing down and we can barbecue in our jumpers and with brollies :o

Why is it miserable to suggest smoke from a bbq can really badly affect people especially if they have covid or underlying chest problems. Why not cook inside and eat it outdoors

CV leaves people bed bound yet you think they'd be out doing a spot of gardening? 🤔 if it's in your garden, it's no one else's business. By your logic no one should cut their lawn incase next door has hayfever 😂

fatandshatteredfairy · 09/04/2020 21:11

Lamb kebabs and chicken skewers marinating in the fridge here ready for tomorrow's bbq.
Corn on the cobs, garlic butter, gin, sorbet... mmmm.

Might even wave to the neighbours Blush

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 09/04/2020 21:12

We're having one tomorrow. I can highly recommend mushrooms wrapped in streaky bacon on skewers as a side to the main whatever.

I didn’t realise people could be this hard of thinking Sad

LuckyMarmiteLover · 09/04/2020 21:12

We had a bbq last night and it was fabulous! Planning another one on Saturday. Enjoy OP Smile

TwoZeroTwoZero · 09/04/2020 21:13

In mn land you're not meant to actually use your garden. It's there for you to look at. You're permitted to wander around it for a few minutes or so but in absolute silence lest you disturb your neighbours.

I say screw the neighbours. In my real life experience, most people just get on with things and although they generally don't go OTT they use and enjoy their gardens.

BBQs, music and the sound of people outside is what spring, summer and good weather were made for!

Buy some charcoal online and get it delivered, that's what we're going to do.

JeSuisPoulet · 09/04/2020 21:13

You assume that in hot weather people who may be ill may want to sleep with windows open - so no, not while there is a virus that affects the lungs. Surely this is as much common sense as washing your hands after touching wheelie bins, no? Don't tell me no one on this thread thought of that before the pandemic?

Pomegranatemolasses · 09/04/2020 21:13

I find the smell of other people's barbeques absolutely intoxicating - really lifts the spirit and reminds me of sunny evenings.

Killjoys abound at the moment.

JeSuisPoulet · 09/04/2020 21:15

Destroyer fucking depressing, isn't it. Bet they'd all be moaning if their neighbour smoked a pack of B&H by their fence though Hmm

Pomegranatemolasses · 09/04/2020 21:15

@fatandshatteredfairy, sounds amazing! Hope you all have a lovely time.

HappyHammy · 09/04/2020 21:15

Pepepig. Is everyone with cv bedbound? My ndn ds has really severe hayfever so we always speak to them when we want to mow the lawn so they can decide if they want to go out or stay in and close the windows.

LovePoppy · 09/04/2020 21:16

BBQ food is awful anyway

This sounds like a user error to me

ChicChicChicChiclana · 09/04/2020 21:16

I would say not having a barbecue is an absolutely miniscule worry or issue at the moment. So try not to be too downhearted about it.

Are there really people out there who think it's not an issue? Shock

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 09/04/2020 21:17

I was about to say the same Pom.

I always feel happy and summery when I smell a barbeque which is rare for me because I'm a total autumn/winter person.

category12 · 09/04/2020 21:17

Isn't the lockdown miserable enough without sucking the fun out of everything? Making your own play dough is wrong, having a bbq is wrong, buying 2 fucking cucumbers is wrong. Some people just love heaping on the misery.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 09/04/2020 21:18

Well SPB my dear if you get reported for having a BBQ should you get some charcoal save the police some time and send them down to me too as we plan to have one this weekend or next, we're going for a camping holiday in the garden. The dc can paddle in the beck and toast marshmallows.

The beck being literally the bottom of the garden does entering it count as going out for exercise? If I go in the beck am I still permitted to leave the house again?

Actually my garden is separated from the house by the back road. Does going to the garden count as leaving the house? Because we've been doing that several times a day. The DC have been bouncing on the trampoline very noisily.

MrsExpo · 09/04/2020 21:19

We’re going to have a “cook outside” evening over the W/e using a portable gas burner/camping stove thingy. Similar effect without the smoke .... whatever .... let’s try to have a fun, relaxing weekend within the confines of our homes.

UpCloseAndPersonalWithGlenda · 09/04/2020 21:20

Why are you thinking of having a barbecue, SPB?

You could roast a sodding chicken and feed your family for a year with it.

breakingbetter · 09/04/2020 21:22

Bloody hell, people can really be miserable can't they.

I'm vegetarian so don't have BBQ's myself but next door use their BBQ at any chance they can get, as do many other neighbours. I like the smell and I've never had an issue with smoke impacting mine or DH's (asthmatic) lungs.

Hippee · 09/04/2020 21:25

Loving the B&Q website. I was in a virtual queue of 15000, now 7000, it's quite exciting.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2020 21:26

I'm vegetarian. Halloumi, corn, mushrooms, vegi burgers...

Gas BBQ here, we’ll be having one.
Bottled gas suppliers have been classified as essential- not because of the gas barbeques - and are open for delivery and click and collect.
