Can't have a barbecue this weekend :(

The shop I went to yesterday didn't have charcoal.
But never mind I'm sure when lockdown is over there will be endless weekends where its lashing down and we can barbecue in our jumpers and with brollies :o
(lighthearted)

our local corner shop has loads of bags of charcoal

Poppi89 · 09/04/2020 20:05

@AtAt123 I don't think I have ever been so jealous in my life!

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2020 20:06

simonisnotme are you our neighbour? We often have the 90s on

I absolutely love the smell of a barbecue! I thought everyone did.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 09/04/2020 20:11

We have the cleanest air we have had for decades and your first thought is bbq. You can survive without it. (BBQ food is awful anyway)

RestYourHead · 09/04/2020 20:11

Solemnity??? WTAF?
I'll explain that to my 11 and 16 year old DS who have (for the first time in a long time) been playing badminton harmoniously together. Quite loudly.
BBQs are fine OP, nothing wrong with them.

Rockbird · 09/04/2020 20:15

Our neighbours have barbecues at the drop of a hat and their garden is tiny so they're almost in our garden doing it. Do we care? Of course not. Good for them. Only downside is that we have to sit inside drooling...

Have your barbecue and enjoy.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2020 20:16

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow of course I can survive.
Disagree that barbecue food is awful.

Yours might be. Ours is not. Smile

SamSeabornforPresident · 09/04/2020 20:18

Some people are desperate for everyone to be miserable. Use your own garden as you see fit. I like seeing our neighbours out and enjoying their gardens and if they want to have a barbecue while out there, great.

The whole (don't have a) barbecue thing has come from the fact that folk were meeting up in big groups to have barbecues, and so police or whoever warned against it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/04/2020 20:19

Our neighbours don't know how to bbq properly. Tons of smoke throughout. It's very annoying. Enjoy eating al fresco instead OP!

Wheresthesanitygone · 09/04/2020 20:20

Well we’re alright here it’s our gas bbq and Absolute Classic Rock on Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 09/04/2020 20:22

I also love the smell of a BBQ. I won't be objecting if my neighbours have one.

jojobar · 09/04/2020 20:24

There's nothing to forbid BBQs, and although some local councils have asked people not to have bonfires, provided you're burning the right stuff (dried out garden waste, paper, card etc) and not doing it every day you'll be unlikely to generate much more smoke than the average BBQ or woodburner, or to cause much impact on others. We had a small fire last weekend of garden waste in our burning bin, little or no smoke was generated.

IvinghoeBeacon · 09/04/2020 20:24

Sorry, lighthearted threads are not in the spirit of STAY AT HOME, SAVE LIVES. I hope you didn’t imagine you could have any fun on Mumsnet right now, OP

Nanalisa60 · 09/04/2020 20:25

If you have your own garden then have a bbq as long as it’s only the people living in your house that are at it. My husband says when the weather gets better he is putting up the tent in the garden, so we can pretend to be on holiday.

We are very lucky our garden is a good size, so neighbours can’t see us and we can’t see them.

AmelieTaylor · 09/04/2020 20:27

Yes how lovely for the neighbours. They can enjoy the rare sunny weekend being ruined by stinking bbq and smoke

🙄🙄🙄🙄

Only if you're a bad cook.

FMD. I've been vegetarian over 30 years. I love (separately cooked) BBQ food.

BBQ's smell like summer...

Stop being so miserable!!

@StealthPolarBear. No garage within walking distance?

There's always the kids school books...

PepePig · 09/04/2020 20:35

😂 laughing so much at all the killjoys saying you can't BBQ.

I'm having one tomorrow. Members of my household only. It'll be fabulous. We might even laugh and/or have fun too. 😟

Covid police come and get me!

GreytExpectations · 09/04/2020 20:35

Op, didn't you realise that according to the old, wise women of Mumsnet, no fun is allowed right now?? How dare you want a Bbq! You must only sit outside in complete silence for 10 minutes a day because it SAVES LIVES!! Hmm

rslsys · 09/04/2020 20:36

We're having a BBQ over the weekend. Gas Cadac which plugs into the external gas point on the Caravan. Did I mention we are away in the Caravan this weekend too?
Well, at the end of the lawn . . .

Hippee · 09/04/2020 20:37

Anyone know how we can get replacement gas for our barbecue? Our bottle ran out after about 5 minutes and we're facing a barbecue-less summer.

5zeds · 09/04/2020 20:38

I heard some shops are removing all BBQs and bonfire things as you can't have bonfires at the moment so they are probably protecting their image or something.
Confused what ARE bonfire things. Here a bonfire involves matches, garden rubbish and amazon box/newspapers., what on Earth do you BUY in a shop to bonfire?

TheFaerieQueene · 09/04/2020 20:39

Boo hoo

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2020 20:39

Nowhere within walking distance I'd want to lug a bag of charcoal back.
Lol at the pp 'going away' in the caravan, that's the spirit!

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2020 20:40

Faerie have you actually read the op?
